Played Saturday at 11:06am from the Blue tees. First time here at this course. Not bad, an interesting layout with fairly challenging conditions. Voice Caddie and GPS both struggled at times with yardages and what hole you were on. Carts do not have GPS, Cooler or club cleaners. Fairways were tight and punishing on pulls. Wife and I played for $65 total (Thanks Underpar.com). Might play again, really depends on if we want to endure the drive from the OC.

The course was in decent condition. Fairways were mixed – great in some spots, bare in others. One positive sign is that that they seem to be cognizant of problem areas, as many areas were sprayed as GUR. Rough mirrored the fairways, fine sometimes and clumpy and/or bare in others. Tee boxes were also a mixed bag. I wouldn't say any were perfect, but most were acceptable. But then a few were either not level or they had that puffy grass that doesn't hold a tee when you try to tee up your ball.

Back in the day, this course was known for having some of the purest, fastest greens around. That can't quite be said anymore. The first 7 or 8 greens seemed to have different types of grass growing on them. But somewhere around hole 8 or 9 they seemed to get smoother and more consistent. No complaints about the greens over the last 10 holes.

The first few bunkers I was in today were great. But then I hit a greenside bunker on 16 and it was almost mud.

Overall, the course is quite playable, but it doesn't look quite as beautiful as it used to in the past. We had a good deal from EZLinks (plus I had the EZLinks Groupon on top of that), so for what we paid, it was completely worth it. I don't know that I'd be happy to pay the full $59 rate right now, even for a prime Saturday morning tee time.

Played here this morning with Itslikeimsayin. It was very foggy on the front nine, making a tight course feel even tighter without being able to see greens or landing areas from the tee very well. Cleared up beautifully on the back nine. We teed off around 6:45. Looked like a handful of other twosomes out in front, but we never caught them and nobody behind us for awhile, so we enjoyed our own 3-hour pace. The course was in OK shape. The greens on the front nine were a tiny bit bumpy and looked to still be recovering a little from a recent aeration. The back nine greens were much nicer and were great. The fairways and rough were somewhat patchy with some thin areas here and there, and they looked to have a variety of grasses growing in different places. Most fairway lies I had were nice, though, and again it seemed the back looked and played a little better. A few uneven tee boxes and the grass quality varied on some of them, but never too hard to find a decent place to tee it up. The two bunkers I found had good soft sand, but we did have two balls plug because it may have been too deep on the faces. One that Mark found on the back nine (16th) had a bunch of standing water in it, which was unfortunate. Overall, I'd still say the course is in decent playable condition, so no major complaints. This was my second time playing here and I do enjoy the layout as a fan of "target" courses. Very tight fairways with plenty of trees in play, relatively small greens with a lot more slope than appears and lots of OB (pretty much every hole here has some OB stakes). Not super long, so if you can hit it straight, a good score can be had. I do like the back nine a lot here. Fun course if you can get a good deal and don't expect too much from the conditions/service because of the "resort" in the name. Highlight of the round may have come after we finished and ate lunch at Nessy Burger right down the street. Delicious!

I played here last weekend, and it was quite a gem. Shot an 89 with two OB balls. It's a tough course with OB or trouble lining almost every hole on your left hand side. If you miss you better miss right off the tee box.

There is a fair amount of elevation changes from tee to green. Notably on the par threes. They generally played 10 yards further than expected given elevation, pin placement, and wind.

There are plenty of green side bunkers to keep you sandy. Approach position is important, thus your tee shot is VERY important. It's not terribly long, so a trusty fairway metal off the tee will suit you very nicely.

Most fairways are tight and require a well thought out attack. This is not a grip it and rip it type course, and will eat you alive if you can't hit greens in regulation.

Over all the greens are not difficult. They are smooth and mildly fast. If you can strike the ball well they bite and back up nicely. Be aware of your surroundings as everything tends to break away from the hill towards the freeway, though not drastic, and not in a tricky obstacle illusion way. The greens are fair, and if you can get your putter hot in the first couple holes you'll be well served. (True for every course I suppose).

Very enjoyable layoute. The staff was friendly. The cart girl Amanda is beautiful, and chatty.

played this course on Jun 08, 2013. thought it would be a very nice course since it's at a resort and whatnot, it was just decent. quite a few bare spots on the fairways (ground under repair). pace of play was not bad, under 4.5hrs. the greens, however, were the smoothest greens that i have ever played on. absolutely not bumpy at all. and not to mention, fast and a lot of breaks on your putts. overall, enjoyable course. it reminded me of DeBell (burbank) but a bigger version of it. coin flip on the return for a 2nd time

Played on Friday AM, May 17. First of all, I'll start with the greens, still 2 weeks away from the "normal" Pala Mesa greens. Currently,they are soft, slow and bumpy. Fairways are in good condition with the occasional bare spots. Rough is in the 1-3" range with some bare spots. Traps are in good condition. POP was right at 4 hours. Lots of maintenance worker working on the course. Cart girl came by twice on each nine. Only complaint was the grumpy starter, need to send him to charm school. The course was getting lots of play as the parking lot was full when we finished at Noon.

9am Friday start moved continuously throughout the course. Can't comment on the greens since still suffering from plugging 10 day previous. Fairly narrow tree lined course with thin fairways and low rough.
Overall course manicure was quite nice, although if you're looking for a quiet, bird-chirping experience, you might want to look elsewhere as some of the holes border or within ear-shot of the freeway.

Wow! Did a stay and play here at Pala Mesa, 4/10-11, what a great deal. Stayed here just a couple of weeks ago and my biggest complaint was the carts, that had tape on the seats, they just got a fleet of brand new carts! perfect. For $89 a person, 2 days of all you can golf and a room, jump on this while you can. No complaints about the golf, well maintained, great condition or the room at all. Some inconsiderate golfers, that did not repair ball marks, and some that repair ball marks with the back of the putter and scar the greens. Way to go jackasses!
Biggest complaint was customer service. We had a 11:15 start time on the first day, but the starter said it was 11:51, I guess? We were there at 10 and wanted to get out early. Not going to happen, a large tournement was going off. I ask what our T time was for the next day? It was supposed to be 10:30. The starter says 7:40. LOL. Bull sh$t ! We never schedule that early. Not really a problem to be bumped for the tourney, but be honest and offer something, bucket of balls, a drink or better a courtesy call with an offer to get out before the tourney, would have been great. The guys in front were slow, we waited on every shot. Very tiring by the back nine. The early start, the next day was perfect, So over all not a big deal.
Tips: Play early, no wind. Order a bloody mary from the snack bar, not the bar, same price but way better tasting and stronger. Food is expensive in the restaurant, not worth it. Drinks are expensive. Course plays harder than the slope suggest, especially in the wind.

Played weekday 3/18 & 3/19. Special Stay and Play rate(ends 3/31/2013). Everything was very nice. Course condition from tee to green (some tee were not flat or level but its ok). Pro shop, starter, marshall, cart girls, snack shop all staff were great. PM now allow, 5-some :( hope they discontinue 5-some and keep max to 4 some only. Beautiful fun course. Hope to return soon with my buddies!
