Read the review from Mark_daly and decided to go play woods valley. I scored a Deal time on teeoff.com for $4 after using a $50 promo code and went off on time at 10:00am. Course it self is in better shape than what has been the normal as of late. It still not immaculate but I would put it a 6.5 out of 10. Fairways were cut short and rolled out well. Full coverage of grass just not all the same grass which could be troubling if you are on the edge of both grasses. Greens today were soft and a little bumpy but quick. The greens keeper decided to use the toughest hole locations today which made for an adventurous day on the greens. The sand traps I was in had good brown sand maybe a touch heavy but not issues getting out of them. The only down side of the course right now is the Rough. multiple types of grasses and not cut uniformly.

Overall this course is a lot of fun to play and with the decent conditions right now I suggest playing. One last thing to note is they bought the carts from Carmel Valley Ranch and they have GPS units on them but the course said they cant afford to activate them because its around $40 per cart per month.

Played 01/29, had a 1040 tee time. Solid time in January to play that deep in to San Diego hills, warm and comfortable slight cool breeze. Any earlier I think I would have been freezing.

Check in was easy club house is nothing to write home about but they have a lot of merchandise. Starter/cashier was really nice and offered to match me up with a 3-some or said I could go out on my own. I chose to go out on my own and play two balls. I paid $35 for the tee time which included the cart, booked through TeeOff.com. I bought a sleeve of ProVs and a small bucket total $50.

They have a grass range which I love and it was in great shape. The hitting area was lush and level. I heard from some one the week before that the casino has taken some investment into the course and it has really helped. Range balls were a little beat up but hey I'm just trying to get warm.

The carts are good quality and have a GPS/screen display but mine wasn't working. Not sure if that was the same for everyone or just mine. They have coolers w/ ice and two sand cups with plenty of sand and seed.

Practice green was small but rolled really similar to the course. I didn't see a chipping area, I think they are working on one in between the practice green and the cart barn.

Tee boxes were solid overall, some were a bit lumpy in areas (played the blacks) but I had no issue finding a level spot on the side I wanted. A lot of the black tees are tucked pretty far back and you tee off through a "shoot." There are some really well placed bunkers that come into play from the back tees. I really enjoyed the views of the fairways from these boxes. I kept thinking this place reminds me of a poor man's Maderas with less elevation change.

Fairways overall were really in good shape. I found a few scrub lies but really nothing you wouldn't find on any other course. Pretty soft lush grass I wasn't getting very much roll out but they weren't muddy by any means. Rough was hit or miss on probably 6 or 7 holes, thankfully I was finding the fairways.

The four bunkers I found were all really nice, a couple of them hadn't been manicured in the morning so they were a little firm on the top layer. They all had good amounts of sand which wasn't that fine powder it was more coarse and heavy.

Greens were in solid shape I only saw two that needed some rehab. One of them being a short par 3 that was just pelted. It looked like they really don't change the pin placement very much there I saw probably 5 replacements near the hole. Like the practice green they were pretty quick and firm. I got the ball to check pretty well and so I went after a lot of pins. You could play bump and runs or flops and be successful because of the speed and firmness. Playing the morning and it not being too busy they really weren't that bumpy. The complexes were fun, especially on some of the smaller greens (there are many) some solid undulation and well placed pins.

First time out here and I'll be back for sure. There are a good handful of holes that remind me of the back nine at The Crossings and the front nine at Maderas. I really enjoyed the round I played as a single played two balls the whole time. I caught up to a 5 some on 10 and they immediately let me play through. I caught up to the 3 some I was suppose to play with and got through them as well. I think my final round time was about 3 hours 50 minutes. I shot 76 with my aggressive ball and 80 with my conservative one.

From the Blacks I think the course is about 6700, so its not long by any means but it still has some challenges. It was windy for most of the round and I was clubbing up 2 going into the wind on about 5 or 6 holes.

Really enjoyed the course though I think if its as busy as it was every day this would be a great place to come practice for any tourny rounds you may have.

11/4 on senior Monday $29 playing as a 2some but helped by considerate 4somes to get through with a POP of just under 4 on a great SC am with a light breeze and sunshine. Conditions are fair to good as course is in transition season. Fairways are mostly thin which is great for roll out but requires more precision on the strikes. A few marginal lies but reason to celebrate when able to execute(more like conditions before the pro influence of expecting every blade of grass to be perfect). Rough is mostly thin and also on the dry side so not overly penal.
Tees are quite thin and many have been sanded so in a state of repair but playable. Bunkers were mostly ok rather damp but recently groomed.
Greens played much better than they looked having some varied coloration but well healed from punching. They were surprisingly quick and rolled smoothly while being receptive to well struck full shots.
Grass driving range, good carts but no active GPS(200-150-100 yd markers in fairway) large practice green that provided a similar speed to course conditions and layout and setting that provides a scenic challenge.
Friendly welcoming staff.

Played on a Sunday and the course was crowded but moved along fairly well. The greens were good but still had a few bumps from the last punching. Rolled well and were fast but you had a few times where the ball bobbled off line.
Fairways were dry but very few areas without grass., overall really nice to play from. Rough was mixed bag from dry to super lush clumps mixed in. Bunkers were disappointing as they were not dragged by the course for at least a day or two and had ridges and bumps all through them. Made for some really tough lies but at least there was sand in them.
Tee Boxes were thin and dry and mostly level.
Good customer service but no beverage cart but overall fun day with a challenging golf course.

Early Sunday morning four hour round. Staff always great here and helpful. The tee boxes were in okay shape with some a bit thin and dry. The fairways were in pretty good shape but somewhat drier than my last round here. There are a few fairways that have patches of bare dry sections throughout the course. The rough was also very dry and thin where it existed. Many holes have lateral hazards with long grass and brush. The traps were mostly damp and in better shape than I've seen them. The greens have totally recovered from maintenance and held shots very well. The golfers here REALLY need to fix their marks on the greens! There were so many ball marks in need of repair!! The long drive is forgotten with the reasonable rates and great scenery which surrounds this course.

Back out to Woods Valley, which is a course I have always enjoyed playing. I find the layout a lot of fun, with the holes offering enough of a challenge, but provides enough forgiveness to allow the round to be relaxing. Plus, I just love the back nine !

Conditions were a mixed bag, with some greens soft, some firm, inconsistent speed, same applied to the fairways, some wet, some dry ??? Only in one bunker which was fine, but looking at them, I could see there were some issues.

Staff as always was wonderful and using an Underpar coupon made it a bargain to play. Because I enjoy this course so much, I seem to be able to overlook the condition issues.

Early Sunday round in under four hours. The staff always great. The course is showing it's summer time. The tee boxes were a little thin, shaggy and beat up. The rough is pretty much gone with the only thing left is the scrub and bushes that line the fairways. The fairways are very dry and thin, Many of the fairways had dry dirt patches here and there. The sand traps are hit and miss with most having a need for sand and attention. The greens were mostly firm but had very good coverage with numerous ball marks. There were a few greens that were soft and held shots well while most were firm and did not hold anything. The water features are very low on a few holes as the heat continues to stress out the course. The overall conditions are really not too bad for the time of year and the greens were to be punched on Monday. I love the layout and area the course is located in and continue to recommend.

Course is in decent shape. Typical for this time of year here. Fairway's mostly dry with some areas that collect water being very wet this early in the morning. Some areas of the fairways have good coverage. Most areas a little on the thin side and some areas brown. Didn't really cause any big issues unless you found the browned out area. Firm underneath so good ball striking helpful. Traps were a mixture of hardpan and wet sand. Found a couple of them. If you are fortunate to land in a "raked" area they are not bad. Rough was mixed bag from very thin to very thick grass. Sometimes very close to green, which made chipping interesting.
Greens were the highlight. Very receptive and ran mostly smooth at about a medium pace. They were all in great shape. Even #14 which has had many past struggles. Really enjoy the layout and mix of holes. A fun day can be had here.

Finally got to play some golf this last Sunday, as i have been nursing a fractured hand ... Joined some old friends at Woods Valley in Valley Center played a little scramble. One thing i always notice is how dry and hard packed the driving range is which always make me worried on course conditions. One thing to note is Valley Center area is under water restrictions and the range receives minimal water.

As we hit the course we notice the course is in much better shape. Tee boxes have decent coverage and are much softer than the range. The fairways have good coverage as well but can be a little dry. Some bare spots here and there but nothing that really disrupts your game. Sand traps were the only thing that I would give negative marks to. Most were wet and rock hard with not much actual sand left.

The highlight of the day would be the greens. Greens were lush and in fantastic shape. They felt soft and received shots but rolled at medium fast speed. Most put rolled true and steady with no bumps at all. This course is a fun layout and you must actually think out your shots. Gripping it and ripping it will get you in a lot of trouble. Overall I am always pleasantly surprised by Woods Valley and look forward to playing again.
