Had the opportunity to play one of my favorite courses in San Diego and it did not disappoint. The course was in great shape and thankfully the rough was recently cut to a manageable length. From tee to green everything was in amazing shape. Keep in mind they punched the greens at the beginning of April so a tad bumpy but they are healing well. I really enjoy this course and have a ton of fun playing here. While it is not the hardest course from tee to fairway the greens are some of the hardest to score well. They have such subtle breaks and if you are above the hole, good luck. Hopefully Golf Moose and GK come back here soon. If you get the chance to play, I would highly recommend it.

So late on this review post but happy I’m getting to it because I really liked this course.

Teed it up with GKers pgamez, SeveB and Michael on a cool breezy day in Chula Vista on 12/5. This outing followed our GK 20th Birthday Celebration the day before at Goat Hill Park GC making for fun filled two days. Rgm2525, GDR23 and myself ran this event as part of the Golf Moose / Greenskeeper.org private course outings. If you ever plan on having a golf outing here the staff and facilities are excellent while the golf course is outstanding. Even though I understand the course has lost over 300 over the recent years, the track, especially those green complexes, are a blast. The greens are super smooth, fast and hold shots, perfect. The bunkers have the most consistent quality playability I’ve experienced. The rest of the course is in very good shape with full semi-dormant bermunda/kikuyu light green coverage. If I lived in San Diego I would jump on every opportunity to play this very exclusive club. Thank you everyone that came out to this outing!

Played in the GK/GolfMoose outing last week. A little late on the post because I think I got a little sick after finishing in some cold windy conditions which I wasn't prepared for. Hadn't played here for a few years and I'd say its a completely different course. The course is pretty much completely open except for the houses which surround the property. There were some holes which driver was not the play but now it seems like you can pretty much rip driver on every hole.

Greens here are really the highlight. The scary part is they were pretty quick but they can get these much quicker. Little subtle breaks too that didn't look that obvious at first make these greens a little tricky. Greens rolled smooth and didn't see much in the way of ball damage.

Fairways were great. Had some good roll out and I don't remember any significant bad or bare areas there. Seems like the members and staff take care of their divots because I didn't notice many unfilled ones.

Rough isn't too penalizing but the ball could settle down in the grass. I'm not sure what kind of grass this was but it's not super lush thick grass but certainly had me change club selections because of the lie.

Bunkers were really good. Some of these have some deep faces where you'll need to get the ball up quick. Plenty amount of sand in there to splash the ball out.

Overall a very enjoyable round with Gary, Ron and Mark. If you get an opportunity to play here you should look into it.

Another review mentioned tree loss in recent years. Based on black and white photos in the locker room course is more like the original design now. A links style old school design. Playing like the courses of Scotland and Ireland I'd imagine with a few more large trees and no gorse.
All the right boxes checked for a private high end course. A1 facility, staff, and CH.
Prep of the greens today included a cut and roll, about the best conditions a player can expect. The bunkers had flat bottoms and large faces giving framing and visual stimuli. Fairways tight offering run out. Rough dormant and fluffy could pull a hybrid through it and still get distance.
Great day and chance to experience this unique style classic.

Rode the blues as a part of GK/Golfmoose event Monday 12/5/22 teeing off on hole 1 shotgun start at 11am under cold and breezy conditions. Paired with Ron, Marc and Mike. All very good players who were a blast to play with. Total POP was around 4 hrs 40 minutes which for the amount of players the event had was not to bad. Had the breakfast burrito which was good and spent some time on their practice facility which included very nice short game area and nice putting green. Range was on mats and if you are a bomber the range is short so I was aiming drives right of the driving range fence out into an open area. All staff in the pro shop were friendly. Old school locker room and an old school vibe here. Layout is very fun and reminded me alot of Riverridge Lakes course back in the day. Large undulating fairways, slick and firm bigger green complexes with a decent sized track that played 6700 from the blues and 7000 from the blacks. I was told numerous times that the course lost 450 trees over the recent years. Many of the holes on the front nine play straight into the wind or downwind with some holes playing sidewind on the back. Most of the holes are straight in front of you with several others doglegging some. Defense of the course are the very fast greens and hundreds of greenside bunkers to avoid. I really enjoyed the layout. The greens were the best surfaces I have putted on this year. Rolling close to a 12 on the stimp. Holding irons nicely with high trajectory or spin. If you were short sided chipping or had a downhill putt it took precision to get it close. I loved these greens and was able to see the lines very well today. Rated 9.5/10 Fairways were more firm than lush but had ample padding to compress irons. I know in the summer this type of base probably perks up nice with the warmer weather. Rated 7/10 Tees were level and in good shape. Rated 8/10 Rough around some of the chipping areas were drier but still provided enough of a base to open up the 60 degree wedge. Rough just outside the fairways was mowed down and easy to play from. Rated 6.5/10 Was in two greenside bunkers. Bunkers were all raked and in good shape. I did have a fried egg in one bunker and a firm lie in the other so lies could vary. As mentioned before if you can avoid these as there are many you are doing well. Rated 7/10. Would recommend a membership here if I lived close just to be able to putt these greens everyday.

Had the chance to play one of my favorite course in SD County yesterday in the SCGA member outing. I've only played it once before, so any time I see an opportunity, I jump on it!! Course is old school, obviously, as it's one of the oldest clubs in the entire county.

Everything is in good to great condition!! Fairways, as usual, are like carpet. They're full of mounds and undulations and the turf is excellent with perfect cushion and roll.

Greens as usual are the highlight of the course. Perfect condition, very fast and held shots perfectly. We did notice a few putts that were a little bumpy, but this was the exception. Generally they were very smooth and they break a lot and are very quick.

Bunkers are diabolical!! They were in good shape, but they are steep and penalizing. Try to avoid them at all cost.

Teeboxes for the most part were darn near perfect. They were working on a few of them, but the rest of them were great.

Rough is very difficult right now. The ball sits down in this type of grass and it grabs your club. Very difficult finding your ball let alone hitting out of it.

Guys in the pro shop were awesome, bought a shirt off their sales rack. Fee was $145 and well worth it. Can't wait for any chance to play this gem.

Greens still healing from a punching about 3 weeks ago, but still rolled true but not the normal lightning that this course usually plays. Everything else was in great shape and nice, redoing the range so a little shorter than normal but not affecting anything. Super classic fun layout with everything in front of you.

Many areas/fairways were ground under repair, dry, no grass/bare spots. Course is pretty straight. Tee boxes and greens we excellent. Customer service was awesome. Played here years ago and was very lush not the same. Overall the course is fun and a lot of history.

Holy Cow. What an awesome day. Played yesterday, 7/23. Thanks to new friend Louis Noriega ("Lou") for the invite out to this special place. (Lou played a lot of competitive golf throughout his whole life and he's a complete "stick", hits the ball on the screws every shot!!)

This is an old school layout, original William Watson design with Billy Bell remodel way back in the day. Everything was lush throughout the course. Teeboxes were perfect, level and absolutely no problem quickly finding a great place to tee it up. Although Lou said they are staring a complete remodel on them next year, we laughed at that.

Fairways were absolutely stunning. All bermuda and perfectly mown, just like carpet. Ball sat up perfectly and they still provided some good roll. They are mounded all over the place, rarely a flat lie, adding to the challenge of the course. It's like the dunes of Pismo Beach, if you're dead in the middle, you will get a flatter lie than towards the sides of the fairways.

I Missed a couple of fairways and the rough wasn't too penal today. We were told it's normally a lot longer, but they had just mowed it down to reasonable lengths. Lots of trees and they lost about 160 of them during that freak "superstorm" a few years ago in 2017. Stay in the fairways!!

Found two bunkers and they were absolutely perfect. No problems even without being raked from Covid.

The greens were unbelievable!! Held shots very well and hardly a ball mark to be found, the members take great care of these greens. They were fairly fast, 11.5-12 on the stimp, I believe. But they get faster. Just like the fairways, they are subtly mounded all over the place. I maybe had one straight put the entire day. They are diabolical!!! need some local knowledge. And they are very fast, must respect!!

Customer service was fantastic. The guys in the proshop were great. Easy check in. $100 guest fee to walk (I think its another $22 to ride, but it's an easy course to walk). Course was very busy, but POP was still around 4hrs, no waiting on the back nine at all. A little waiting on the front, mainly the par 3's as they are very difficult and long. Can't wait to return, worth every bit of the guest fee. If anyone invites you, drop everything like I did (I literally had an hour advanced noticed and bolted from work immediately), and get out there.
