I am unable to play the GK outing on Dec 11th so I got a deal from the SCGA and brought a foursome from Oceanside on Monday, Dec 5 at 9 AM. Weather PC, 70 degrees and a very light wind. So for you playing on the 11th, I got a one word review: WOW!

Customer Service was excellent, as we parked our car, our golf carts pulled up. Enjoyed the free coffee and muffins as we checked in.

Driving Range: all grass with Pro V1 practice ball.

Nice putting green next to the first T, I missed the chipping green.

Fairways: excellent, not a bad lie all day.

Greens: the first 6 holes had a lot of spike marks. Once the greens firmed up, the spike marks were reduced. Speed was medium to fast.

Rough: 1 to 2" higher than the fairways.

Traps: good sand except for 3 -4 traps where the local wild critters were messing around in the sand. Don't know what the critters were but some of the foot prints were the size of a baseball.

Good cart service; twice on both sides.

No GPS on the carts but there were plenty of sprinkler heads marked and my GPS was right on with the sprinkler heads.

Food after the round was excellent, I had the pulled pork sandwich. The other guys had the salads.

Played Rams Hill for the first time on Friday, 11/25 at 9:30am. The drive from the 909 took longer than we were told and Glenn in the Pro Shop allowed us to be bumped back from 9:15 to 9:30 so we could quickly warm up. Everything about this course is first rate. Every single tee box was perfect (we played the orange tees). Every single fairway was perfect and mowed half towards each tee & the other half towards the green. The fairways were a little soft and a couple guys in my group were taking pretty large divots. The greens were very very good too. Bent greens are so cool to putt on. They too were slightly soft, but putted beautifully and were receptive to well struck irons. The bunkers had beautiful sand as well. Loved the layout and hope to play it again in the future. Definitely one of the top five conditioned courses I've ever played.

Made the trip out yesterday with a 9:40 tee time and we were a 2some stuck between 4somes. Overall pace end up being right at 4 1/2 hours so not bad. The temp was 109 and while it was hot didn't feel too bad because there was a breeze.

Greens are by far the best part of the course and still the best greens I've ever putted on. They indicated they were rolling at a 9 which seems slow here but they roll so true. We never had a putt bump offline. There seems to have been some changes since I was last here. The green on the par 5 11th seems to run more perpendicular to the fairway now. I had remembered it a bit different. Also the next hole the false front appears to have been softened.

The fairways are certainly drying out. Some of these dry areas have been punched. The areas where there is grass is great. You'd think the turf would be really firm but I thought for the most part you could dig into the turf.

Rough is not penalizing and easy to hit from. The native areas are enter at your own risk, I wasn't going to mess with any rattlers out there.

Sand was nice and soft which is fine for the greenside bunker but for the fairway you need to make clean contact on it.

Great practice facility, Titleist balls on the range. The ball travels a lot further here. It's good to warm to get accustomed to how much further the ball flies.

Every single person working here was a pleasure to be around. This is probably one of the better services I experience again golf course. By the time I got home I already had a thank you email from them and I can tell you that I have never received this from any other course I have played. This is nice touch. I can't wait for the GK outing and I may have to get back before that. It's just an outstanding course, facility and people.

Round 2 was Saturday 6/4 @ Rams Hill. Big shout out to Mike Setchell for helping set up our mini group. As always, the customer service here is second to none. Everyone encountered was uber-friendly and accommodating. Conditions are exactly as described in previous reviews. While not Augusta green (like it is in winter), it's still 99% amazing with only a couple of small brown dry spots in a couple fairways. But hey, it was 118 that day with a 25mph wind blowing all day! We were basically the only idiots to tee off after the early morning that day. We had tee times starting at 11:10 and we paid the price lol. Beverage cart could not sell alcohol to us due to excessive heat which was actually appreciated! Glad to see they're looking out for guest safety! Can't wait to get back here when they re-open after summer.

Course is still in very good condition for early summer. Fairways are still very green (not thin) Tee Boxes are just starting to thin. Not much rough with just a few bare spots. Sand was excellent. Customer service very friendly.
They are getting ready to close for the summer and driving Hwy 86 down from La Quinta is very easy

Played last Tuesday. Very windy day but it didn't ruin the great experience of this course.

If it was in OC or LA it would be a $100 round. Worth the drive. Would play it again.

Played 5/29/16 12:00 $75 GK coupon POP 4 hrs. Dry weather is starting to show. Fairway's were mostly green with a few brown areas mixed in around the edges & rough. Fairway's were firm with very good roll. Not "lush" but very good and close to it. Greens were great. Receptive, rolled true and a notch above medium. I was in a lot of sand. The traps were in great shape and consistent. Over all in very good to great shape, but firming up. They will be closing on July 5 and reopening first week of November for maintenance. So now is the time to go out a get a round in before they close for the summer.

Absolutely beautiful views and tip top course conditions! Everybody is right: it's well worth the drive! Played a couple weeks ago on a $50 GN Hot Deal time around 11:30am. Took me around 1.5 hrs to get there from Mission Valley area. I hadn't done the drive thru Julian off the 8 to 79 in a long time and I might go the 67 to 78 route next time, as half of it is very rural and slow thru the mountains. The jerk behind me rode my tail the entire way even though I was driving over the speed limit and he waited until I got to the 78 to floor it 100mph past me. So, be careful out there! First time playing here and I was thoroughly impressed from the minute I stepped out of the car, greeted by friendly staff with a cart who loaded my bag. Glenn in the pro shop greeted me by name and off to the putting green & range I went to warm up. All grass range with pyramid-stacked ProV1 Practice balls. Also, they have a really nice chipping green with a lot of room and all sorts of lies and hole location set ups you might experience out on the course. Played the Gold tees at 6,830 yds. It was hot and I wasn't going to drink beer but the cart girl, Jane, was very nice and I picked up two Ballast Point Sculpins (bottles @ $6 each) to start the round. What the hey! I was supposed to be joined by another guy (a regular, Skip) and played the first four holes by myself. Watch out for rattlers, too! Between #1 and #2 I spooked a baby one on the cart path that shot like hell back into the bushes as I slammed on the brakes! Wish I was wearing a GoPro or something. That was thrilling and made for a quick tee shot off #2 par 5! Then I got lost between #4 and #5 and caught up to Skip once I found my way back to #5 par 3. Stuck a nice tee shot to 5ft and made birdie and Skip parred. From then on, we both had a blast out there together, playing decent golf and he busted out the Fireball shots (maybe not the best idea in hindsight!). It was great playing with Skip, especially since he knew the course well and shared tips on landing/layup areas and break tendencies, etc. We finally caught up to a foursome around #15 but finished in 3.5hrs. We even met the superintendent, Steve, when we were waiting on #18 and he and his son were finishing #17 behind us. Everybody was really friendly and easy going out there, which made for a very enjoyable round. Make sure you sign up for the e-club to get your FREE Birthday round (on actual day only; and plus $20 cart fee)!!!

Rams Hill is well worth the drive. The course is immaculate and the staff is friendly. You will not find a course in better shape anywhere, private courses included. Fun layout, fairways forgiving, but fairway bunkers do penalize you. Greens are fast, true and tricky. Fun round of golf.
