Rode the Blues (6369/70.9/131) with Dave, Greg and Brian in the GK Plays in 4H, 55M. Overcast and very windy in the 50's made for challenging golf weather. Thanks to John and everyone responsible for a well run event. Tom Fazio design, really like the course layout, Many holes have visually intimidating sight lines with 97 well placed traps and a decent amount of water. I understand the high slope rating. They have added combo tees, so plenty of tee options for players of all skill levels. The course is fair, not overly tight and an excellent test of golf. The tees were lush and very well maintained. Large, level with few divots, near immaculate. The fairways were lush with few divots. A couple of discolored areas but still excellent overall. The rough was also very lush. Thick and long enough to make longer clubs a chancy play. Get outside the maintained rough and the native rough is a likely lost ball. The sand traps were nicely maintained with thick, good quality sand. Almost too thick @ times. However, for a public course in a windy area with close to 100 total on this course, hard to see any course allowing daily fee players to do better. The greens were firm, smooth, medium fast and rolled well. Lots of ball marks fellow players! Definitely not as pristine as prior visits, but still very good overall. The customer service has always been excellent here. Little things like the cookie after the round and complementary water are noticed and appreciated. The pro shop staff, Starter, Marshall and Drink cart were all excellent to deal with. Full service restaurant that was doing a brisk business, friendly service. Good GPS on the carts. The setup of the all grass driving range with the complementary Pro-V range balls is top notch. Numerous grass greens set up as targets in 25-30 yard increments so you could hit almost any club and feel like you were hitting into a green. Concerning playing conditions. On all my previous visits everything was in the 9/10 out of 10 range across the board. Today, they were more in the 8/9 out of 10 range. Excellent, but not as prisitne as previous rounds played here. Still definitely recommended.

Enjoyable GK day at Rams Hill yesterday! We had a fun time as the lead group. We were behind another 30-player tournament, so the pace was a bit slow with waiting on most shots and some back-ups on a few holes. To echo what others have already said, the conditions were rather soft after plenty of rain here lately. Very windy with the course playing longer than usual.

Some repair being done on some fairways, but overall in great condition as always. Greens softer than ever and a bit on the slow side by RH standards. I actually miss the early days when they were lightning fast! The sand was super soft, which was nice in greenside bunkers but very tough in fairway bunkers. Overall, everything was very nice and the service was great as we've come to expect here. Delicious cookies handed out when we finished, too! If you haven't played out here, make the trip and enjoy this hidden treasure.

Joined GreensKeeper for the 12/9 GK Events. Every time we come to Rams Hill we are blown away by the quality of service, conditions, and all round value of Rams Hill. Course was in fantastic shape as usual with on marks being in some very minimal fairway repair most likely due to recent rains. Besides small repair areas, fairways were lush and emerald green. Rough was short and dormant with a great contrasting gold color. Greens were pretty fast with true roll and smooth bent grass. Really have nothing bad to say and can't wait to come back. Also they have a new indoor simulator that is top notch.

Out with the GK Event yesterday expecting the same conditions in the 9-10 range and was not disappointed. Everything here at Rams hill is top notch. From the guard gate in the service is fantastic and you are secluded from the emptiness of the Anza Borrego state park.

Rolling carpet like fairways with nice and fast greens make for a fun day. I did notice they had some storm damage on 3 or 4 holes but it was very small and did not subtract from the overall conditions, Just a little ground under repair. Greens had a lot of play today and started to get a touch bumpy but they still rolled true and fast. Sand was good and not to firm not too soft. Rough wasn't too long and did stop balls from rolling into the desert. Over all I'd give this place a 9/10.

Playing the GK Plays out at Rams Hill on 12/8. I absolutely love the setting at Rams Hill and it seems every time I play there I find something else that's pretty cool (the room we met in after was great and then there's a little patio area off the driving range over looking the creek/waterfall behind 18). Although the conditions were pretty blustery when we got there, I really loved it. I guess I'm strange that I prefer playing in conditions like that. It just lends itself to being a bit more creative I guess.

As always, every staff member I came across was super friendly, attentive and a pleasure to work with. Rams Hill always has fantastic customer service and it wasn't any different this time around. On top of that they have a nice GPS on the carts which maps the holes and allows you to get exact yardages to hazards, landing areas, etc. This really helps with the strategy of the course so that is a nice feature.

This is the second time I have played Rams Hill right after a rain storm and this time it seemed to be the most "soggy" I have played it. That being said, I think the overall condition of the course is really good. I did happen to have some pretty wet lies (it seemed most were around the greens), but I don't recall ever having it cause too much trouble. The greens were way softer than I can ever remember and with the prevailing wind yesterday, that course played LONG!

It seems to me that our current weather patterns are about 3 months behind where they traditionally are so the overseeding and overall condition of the course felt "young". I think with a bit more time, some sunshine and hopefully higher temps out there the course starts to fill in a bit. Maybe they will end up keeping the course open later in the year too, as June seems to be a bit cooler too :)

Anyway, love the layout here, the course is going to be in prime condition in the next few weeks and I had a great time with the whole GK crew. Definitely an experience out at Rams Hill and I'd always recommend it.

Rode the gold tees this morning 1st group out joined by Keith, Pedro and Ron. Met by blustery wind conditions especially on the back nine. We waited for many groups in front of us as the course was packed this morning. I don't get to venture out to play much with my schedule lately so for sure a treat to get to hang with some buddies for a 2 day golf trip. 1st time ever at Rams Hill and I loved the conditions as well as the layout. Several strategic fairway bunker landing areas in the 280 range that make driving a premium. Ample room with most fairway shots and those sprayed are in desert landscape. Some huge green complexes and some smaller skinny ones like number 17. Layout had a couple long par 4s like 2, 8 and 15 and some shorter risk reward par 4 like 12 and 17. Great mix of holes that would never be boring on repeated replays. Fairways a 9/10 mostly all lush. Only reason I would not rate them a 10 was due to some minor muddy areas. Very nice shape overall. Tees 9/10 all level and lush and in great shape. Rough lush, fairly thick in spots but not super penal. Rated 9/10. Was in one greenside bunker and one fairway bunker. Great sand in both raked nicely. 8.5/10 Greens were looking great to the naked eye, super soft on approach. Had one sand wedge ball sank into it own pitch mark. I was expecting the greens to roll quicker which my playing partners stated they used to. Green rating 7.5/10. Would highly recommend this track for playing conditions, layout, peace and quiet and overall enjoyment. Thanks to Johnny and Rams Hill golf course.

Front Desk/Pro Shop: They were excellent, everyone was very kind, nice and helpful. The manager was very nice (thank you). As a matter of fact, I golfed with another Greenskeeper.org golfer (rudyclub) who was very nice and helpful. He did not act bothered by my taking pictures and golfing from the white tees while he golfed from the blue. Our tee time was...actually, let me kind of start over. My tee time was 9:15AM, $91 from SupremeGolf.com, the front desk asked me if I wanted to golf at 8:15AM with another single, I said yes. The shop was so great, they let me have a buggy (I got there at 6AM) so that I could take pictures of the back nine before my tee time and to get ahead of the first golfers. So, then, at 8:15AM rudyclub and I teed off at hole #2 because two fivesomes had the two tee times before us. Since the employees did this, we felt as though we had the course to ourselves. We did not catch-up to the twosome who were in front of us until hole #17. What a great day.

(I could write a long report about each: tees, fairway, rough, traps and greens, but they are all the same; 9.5+)
Tees great only a couple of normal divots on par 3's.
Fairways were fantastic with very few places that may have been over watered or a patch of SOME brown grass, but not really noticeable to play.
Rough was great and in the same state as the fairways.
Traps, the sand was perfect. But the rings that surround the traps is the weakest part of the entire course, which don't usually come much into play.
Greens were great aside from a few unattended ball marks which people did not take care of.
The course is amazing, by and large it literally looks like every blade of grass is perfectly groomed and in place.

Played 11/18/19 8:30 am. Enjoyed a absolutely fantastic day of desert golf. Went out as a single and was paired with Trevor, another single who happened to be a GK member as well. The starter told us to jump a head to the 2nd to get in front of the two fivesomes that were before us. It was as if we were the only players on the course and finished our 18th on the 1st hole at around 3.5 hrs. The only other group we saw were the ones we caught on the 17th. Fairway's 98% perfect. Emerald green & lush. There a many less than perfect areas mixed around the fairway's, but were mostly only visual blemishes. Greens were really good. Running at a pace above medium. They mark them at 10.5. Noticed an occasional sick area on a couple of greens, but again mostly just visual blemishes. Had a burger at the restaurant after and it was good and with fantastic scenery to enjoy.

played on Nov 2nd. Couldn't ask for a better day to play. The Course is great shape but with a exceptions of just a few Dry Spots on some of the fairways as well as close to some greens. Driving Range in great conditions with all you can hit for free ranges balls. Other than that the Course is ready for the "Greenskeeper" crowd come December. Plenty of good sand in all bunkers, Tee Boxes in good shape and the greens in great condition. Customer Service was outstanding as always.
