Played today early to beat the heat. Which really never came, making it a great day in the desert. The course is in fabulous condition. As others have noted. Having played here numerous times, I wanted to get back here before it closed. Tee boxes fine. Fairways nice with good roll (never had a bad lie). Rough was manageable but stayed out all round. Greens were just wonderful all round in chipping/putting holding shots. Customer service is excellent at Rams Hill. Even found a silver lining re the virus? Traffic down and back was outstanding. It may be a long drive for many of us? But I cannot imagine you will complain to much should you play here.

Went out yesterday with a tee time of 7:30ish and went out much earlier than that. Finished in 3 hours flat. I was sandwich between 2 foursomes and I stayed just back enough of the group ahead so they didn't feel rushed and far enough ahead of the group behind me that I didn't hold them up.

Really the Pisarski brothers and Blake summarized the conditions very well. Overall conditions are excellent and really is a must play. Everything is just in fabulous conditions right now. The only ball marks on the greens were mine (which I fixed). It's really nice knowing that your ball will hold the line. The greens did have some tricky breaks which I misread but what else is new there.

Customer service is top notch here. Bob in the pro shop was super helpful and helped me with my refund for the guys that didn't show up in my group. They do have a marshal out delivering water and ice which was needed as the temp was starting to creep up there. Range was open as was the chipping and putting greens. The food is carryout only and they do take your temp before you enter the pro shop.

I paid $130 for the round with a cart and I think that is a solid price. I'm actually looking to try and get back before the course closes for the summer on 6/7. The only question is why haven't you played here.

Walked the blacks yesterday in just about 4 hours on a picture perfect day. Staff was incredible as always, and as previously noted is out bringing ice cold water out to golfers on the course which is just A+. Not much to add to the previous detailed reviews, the course is in EPIC shape. Some over watered fairways as mentioned and the greens were a bit slow for my liking but everything was deep green and smooth. Cannot wait to return.

After not playing golf for the last few months I got the invite to join my brother Matt, Tim, and Jim to play a round yesterday 5/10/20 at Rams Hill. I have only played this track a few times in December for the GK Play events, so i was interested to see spring conditions. As we pulled up to the course we were asked to wear a mask in the clubhouse and we had our temp scanned. They give you a wristband that show you are good to go. All the staff was extremely friendly as usual. Kitchen for to go food and drinks. Got an amazing breakfast burrito and headed to the range. Range was immaculate as always and it is always nice to warm up with the ProV1 range balls. After remembering how to swing, I headed over to the practice green to to see if the putter still worked and met up with the rest of the group.

We teed off in individual carts and off we went. Pace of play was fantastic at just under 4 hours and we never waited on a hole. As we headed off down the fairway to hit our second shots, we noticed no coolers or sand to fill divots in the carts. After landing in a fairway bunker i had to foot rake my steps the best i could as rakes were pulled to make sure no Covid could be spread. If you landed in someones foot or swing mark, you received a free drop. Bunkers were mostly fluffy white sand with exception to one damp bunker I found. Fairways were perfect with no bare spots and hardly any discoloring from the recent heat wave. Tee boxes were lush and flat and occasionally wet from morning watering. Rough was short and not too penal. Greens were firm but receptive and not too fast. Made for good reads and only one or two 3 putts for the group. Also Rams hill has added these ball retrieve devices to the cups so you can lift you ball out with your putter. Pretty slick and helps the old back when you pick up you ball. I personally hope these are adopted by more courses in the future.

All in all great day with a good group on a great course. Rams Hill is a must play right now as their season wraps up next month. Get out there and play a round before summer heat really sets in. Next week looks to be in the mid 80's. One thing I forgot is they had a an employee wearing PPE driving the course delivering ice cold waters every few holes. This was fantastic and made the nearly 100 degree heat completely manageable. Every time I play Rams Hill I'm truly impressed by quality of the course and the staff. I cant wait to go back. - ALEX

Took a drive out to Ram's Hill today to play some golf with Alex, Jim, and Tim. When you arrive to the guard shack they warn you that they will require masks in the cart staging area and will take your temperature before allowing you inside. The pro shop is having a fantastic sale right now with 50% apparel, 40% off shoes, and 30% off equipment. The staff here was fantastic from the moment you arrive and it continued onto the course where at least every other hole they were delivering Ice cold water bottles. I was impressed by this wonderful over the top service.

As for the covid impacts there are no rakes, sand bottles and cash allowed on the course. For the pins they purchased a neat contraption which is a flat disk that goes to the bottom of the cup and has a metal stick (think coat hanger) that you lift with your putter to retrieve your ball, allowing your ball to go fully into the cup. This is the best invention out there and cant cost more than $5 in parts to make. Definitely better than the pvc and foam that go around the holes at other locations.

As for the conditions I think this course is in the best shape I have seen it in a long time. Fairways were lush and some had some over watered spots but not to the point that it would affect your next shot. Greens were firm and per the sign running at a 9.5. The crews were out watering the greens trying to keep them alive as it was 100° all week so ample water is needed. Tee's and Rough were fantastic as well. Sand was good to great, I was in 4 traps and three were perfect with one being a wet and firm.

This course is absolutely worth the trip if in the area or withing 2-3 hours in. Coming from OC it took 2.5 hours to get there and I would do it again in a heart beat. A huge shout out to the staff and crew keeping this course 100% during this time of Covid plus the summer heat coming in quick this year. I recommend.

Very consistent conditions, like always, all around. Restaurant is open but for to go only of course. Go now before the end of the season, they close for summer.

Played 5/10/20 I think the 8.9 here is low. It's a 9+ easily. With fellow GKrs, Matt, Alex and Jim. POP was around 4 hrs. Beautiful day in the desert. Covid safety protocols. 1 person per cart. Temp. check when arriving. Cc payments only. Check in was easy. Fairways were near perfection. Green and lush. An occasional over watered spot, but overall in fantastic shape. Greens were in very good to great shape. Mostly firm but, well struck shots stayed close. Ran about medium quick and ran true. Absolutely worth a trip out before they close.

Played Rams Hill on 3/4/20. RH remains in its usual great condition. If you get the chance, go!

The grounds crew was working hard on some thin spots on a few greens, they were being spot-aerated, but the pins are kept away from those areas. Small holes, so the greens still rolled fine even with the aeration. It looked like #18 fairway was about to be punched, as they had marker flags on every sprinkler head.

Staff at Rams Hill was perfect as always.


I did talk to a guy who used to work at the Borrego Springs Resort Course. Outlook for that course returning is grim. Prior owners were happy to run it at a slim/zero profit. Those owners got too old to manage, so the resort was sold to another group from out of state. New group tried to run course, but required greens fees in the $50-$60 range to make it work. Locals were used to the bargain rates of the prior owners and balked at the new rates. Unfortunate, but that is understandable on both sides. While BS Resort was not as spectacular a design as Rams Hill, it was still a solid layout and the two times I played it, the course was in the best condition of any course I have ever played. It made for a great 36 hole day, RH and BSR. So I had to go with 36 at Rams Hill this time.

Played 2/2/20 9 am. The course is in it's typical fantastic shape. Fairway's emerald green & lush. There are a few areas were the grass is thin or not doing well, but they are far and few between and really do not cause any issues. Greens were great. A little firm, but receptive to well struck shots. Running at a medium pace and true. Rough around 2" and lush.
After teeing off we did not see a single player until a single caught us on the 17th. It felt like a private course just for us. My sister from Nor Cal. first time playing here said "The silence is deafening" Odd but so true. Just another typical fantastic day at Rams Hill!
