Finally got back out to Los Robles Greens, been meaning to get back out there sooner since my first round after the renovation in August. Teed it up this time with GK’ers Mattias, lamitchw and Pedro7071. Really fun round with these guys and we were treated to terrific course. Having now played for it second time since the bunker renovation, turf reduction and clean up, I’m loving this track more than ever. Yesterday it was in great shape, green running fast, although a bit bumpy at times I think due to how close they were cut and the fact we were playing the day of their City Championship. That said, boy were the pin placements brutal…but I loved the challenge. Fairways as lush as I’ve ever seen them at Los Robles. Beautiful. Green complexes all in excellent shape. Bunkers, whoa, spectacular. Treacherous with difficult contours, big lips, integrated fescue and soft sand. Tee boxes, lush and well groomed. Rough, not long, easy to escape and lush. But not a lot of rough as it gives way to the turf reduced areas which are a mixture of low scrubs, bark and bare ground. I like the way the turf reduced areas frame the holes but they are difficult to play from. With its big majestic oaks, renovated bunkers and interesting layout with varying dog legs and elevation changes, I think Los Robles is now a gem that needs to be experienced by many golfers that have never played it and certainly those that have not been back since the changes.

Played in a tournament 9/3 and 9/4. Overall the course is in fantastic shape. Didn't play before the changes but the new native areas and added bunkers provide a good challenge for the relative shorter length on the scorecard. Additionally, some serious undulation to some of the greens. Only gripes is that there is WAY too much sand in the bunkers likely from the newness. For the tournament they should have been watered down. Every ball I hit in the bunkers plugged to the point of the ball hardly being visible. Additionally, very difficult to get check on the ball due to so much fluffy sand. Shots in the bunker ended up being a full 2 stroke penalty instead of a stroke to stroke and a half. Greens are in great shape but a bit of inconsistent speed from one green to another. I think all this will sort itself out over time and make this a great track. Would play here again anytime.

I played 18 holes from the black tees on 08-09-16 with fellow members JohnnyGK, nickesquire & rgm2525. This was my second time playing since all the new renovations. But, first time really paying attention to details on the course. LR is technically my home course so I have played it many times before. Overall the number one thing that jumped at me was the consistency of the fairways. They are really coming together, before it felt like they had different type of grass, now specially with the water issues, I feel the fairways are really good and consistent. This was my first time playing blacks tees so all those tee boxes were new to me. Overall I felt they were level, there were maybe 2-3 boxes that felt needed to be cut and a little on the uneven side. Greens were "looking" really nice. We played early so they were running slow on the first 10 holes and they got faster on the back nine fore sure. They have a lot more of the rough/wood chip type of stuff which makes it look pretty but harder and the new bunker locations on some of the holes specially on the two par 3 on the front nine really makes the course challenging. The one thing I noticed on bunkers is that they used a new type of bunker sand on the new ones. Overall, LR is definitely getting a lot better. I've always enjoyed it and I think these new changes on the layout will make it even more fun.

Played yesterday with GK’er Nickesquire, rgm2525 and lavega21 as a GK Review Guru round. It was my first round on course since the bunker renovation, clean up and turf reduction. I liked the new face-lift! The course presents itself better and is much more challenging in my opinion. The bunkers have a lot of teeth and hitting off bark/dirt as opposed to grass in many area where shots off line used to go is tough. Accuracy off the tee is at an even higher premium now. I thought the course conditions were very good and with the Thousands Oaks City Championship coming up September 24th and 25th expect conditions to only improve. Greens were in good shape, little bumpy, not fast although not slow, and held shots very well. It appeared the back nine greens were faster than the front nine as it looked like the back nine greens were more recently cut. The fairways were lush with only some occasional thin spots. This time of year the fairways are a healthy blend of mostly kikuyu and bermuda. The rough, which there is not a whole lot of adjacent to the fairways due to the turf reduction but where it was, has good coverage with occasional patchy and thin areas. Rough adjacent to the greens was longer and lusher. But I have a feeling that will change in September with longer rough when the City Championship approaches. The tee boxes are mostly level with good coverage. We played the back tees. The bunkers are clearly the highlight of the round from a conditions standpoint. Near immaculate. High quality sand, very well groomed. Our pace of play teeing off around 7:30am was just over 4 hours on a weekday. Los Robles Greens is one of the closest golf course to where I live. I had great time and will be returning again!

Played 8-9-16 with JohnnyGK, nickesquire, and Lavega21, early morning in a little under 4 1/2 hours in carts. Tee boxes were in descent shape, mostly lush with a few thin areas, and some a little un-level. Fairways were in good shape with some thin areas but mostly you had a good lie. Rough along fairways and around greens was cut down pretty low and had some patchy spots here and there. Bunkers were in very nice shape with soft white sand. Greens on the front side hadn't been mowed so they were slow and bumpy, back side had been mowed so they were medium speed and a little smoother. Overall conditions were descent for a muni that gets a lot of play.

Played the Blacks (70.1/124/6304) in 4H, 20M playing early morning with JohnnyGK, RGM2525 & lavega21 on a GK Guru deal. The weather was around 80, clear and only at times breezy. The tees were fairly lush and mostly level. Several of the par 3's needed divot repair. The mostly Kikuyu fairways had good coverage. Lush where the Kikuyu is, more thin where the remnants of Rye and Bermuda are. The rough has good coverage if you are close to the fairway, not overly penal & mowed down. There are some hardpan bare spots where the turf removal program kicked in farther from the fairways, and many areas that used to be rough are now wood chips. The newly conditioned traps have nice sand that is currently plentiful. The traps here are now generally bigger and have steep faces and it is much more penalizing than they used to be. The poa annua greens putted medium speed and were firm but still held approach shots well. Mostly smooth with relatively few unfixed ball marks. Changes that stick out in my mind that they have made to the layout in the past year include: 1) Removing probably 2/3 of the rough and making what used to be a combination of hardpan and grass wood chip wasteland areas. 2) Removing the man made lake directly in front of #9 green and replacing it with a huge waste bunker. That plus enlarging the waste bunker behind #9 green make it a great risk/reward short par 4. 3) Adding 2 bunkers on #2, front right and back left. The one back left also comes into play if you are long/left of #7 and would be nasty to get out of. 4) Adding a fairway bunker left on #10 makes the hardest hole on the course even tougher. 5) Adding bunkers short left & short right of #6. Really adds toughness to a downhill par 3 where the wind and severely elevated tee make it really tough to gauge the proper distance and most misses are short. Overall, positive to very positive changes &/or additions. Challenging course to walk because of all the hills, plus a long way from #9 green to #10 tee. Shorter, hilly course that is currently in decent condition, worth it if you get a good rate. The customer service from everyone encountered was very good. Cart girl out making the rounds numerous times. Recommended.

Walked the Blues (68.9/122/6000) on the GK Certificate for $25.50 in 4H, 15 playing midday as a 3some with Charles & Prim. The weather was HOT, low 100's, sunny and a little breezy. The customer service from both the pro shop & the starter was excellent, they got me out quickly and matched up. The cart gal was around 3-4 times. Overall, the course is dry and not in as good of condition as when I played here 6 weeks ago. Soaring temps and the lack of watering the whole course can dry out a layout real quick! The tees were only fair, many were getting thin and the par 3's in particular were chewed up. The fairways had good coverage and were mostly lush, good to play from. The rough had good coverage close to the fairways. Mowed down and not overly penal. There are some hardpan bare spots where the turf removal program kicked in farther from the fairways. The newly reconfigured and reconditioned traps have nice sand that is currently plentiful. I got bit for the 1st time on some of the fairway traps that have been added with steep faces. Forget advancing the ball, was happy to just get the ball out on grass again. When the native grass they have planted both in/around the traps matures, these are going to be some of the tougher traps in So Cal to play from. The poa annua greens putted medium fast and were firm but still held approach shots well. A little bumpy would be my only complaint. Adding traps on the left of #10 fairway and both short right & left of #6 green strengthen holes that were already tough. Love the new waste bunker that replaced the small lake short/left of #9 green. Decent mid level alternative, shorter, hilly course that is currently in decent condition and worth it if you get a good rate. Recommended.

Course is in outstanding shape. So much so that this has quickly reasserted itself as one of my favorite courses in the area. Course is difficult but very fair. Recent course work has made it into a really fun course to play.

Greens were in great shape both rounds, a little faster on 6/26. Definitely on the firmer side, but still holding well struck shots.

Fairways were in great shape. Mostly lush. Green and yellow grass.

Rough is minimal now after the renovation. A ton of pinestraw around trees and in wooded areas. It's penal, but playable.

Sand was in fantastic shape. Very consistent throughout the entire course, from fairway bunkers to greenside bunkers. You know what to expect when you land in one.

Tees were lush and level. Some divot damage on par 3's and shorter par 4's, but tee boxes were rotated well.

POP was superb. 3.5 hours as a threesome one round and 4 hours as a foursome the other round.

Customer service is outstanding. Multiple marshals maintaining pace of play. Water coolers every 3-4 holes. Nice range balls. Very friendly drink cart and bar service.

Well done to the staff here. They've turned a muni track that I mostly ignored into a course that's now near the top of my list when looking for a round. Very good value here, especially with the GK coupon and deals available on GolfNow and the courses website.

Played today Wednesday with a tee time before noon. Was surprised it took us about 4 1/4 hours to play 18. Was here earlier this year when the course was undergoing renovations to their bunkers. Was nice that it is all done. It appears there are more bunkers now.

The water near the front of the green on hole 9 is gone. It is replaced with a massive bunker. Tho' hole 9 is a short par 4 where some of the long hitters can go for the green on their tee shot but it is best to be conservative on hole 9. Noticed on several other holes that the bunkers got bigger and deeper. Must bring you sand game here.

The tee boxes were in good condition with lots of coverage. Fairways had excellent coverage too. It's one of the best I've seen for this time of year. The sand in the bunkers were great. Been in several bunkers today. Sand was light and fluffy. The greens were in good condition too. Balls were rolling about medium speed today. Love the layout of this course with a lot of old oak trees around. Trees got in the way on a few holes but it makes it more fun to play.

Golf carts have GPS in them. It's nice you don't have to spend time guessing the yardages. It also gave warnings about blind tee shot on one of the holes to make sure check to see if landing area was clear. Will be back again to play here.
