Walked the Blacks (70.1/124/6304) in 3H, 15 playing mid morning as a single. The weather was around 75, partly cloudy and breezy. The customer service from both the pro shop & the starter was excellent, they got me out quickly playing as a single. The cart gal came around several times. The tees were well maintained, fairly lush and mostly level. The fairways had good coverage, probably 2/3 lush and 1/3 thin. The rough also had good coverage close to the fairways. Mowed down and not overly penal. There are some hardpan bare spots where the turf removal program kicked in farther from the fairways. The newly conditioned traps have nice sand that is currently plentiful. The poa annua greens putted medium fast and were firm but still held approach shots well. Another change they have made to the layout is removing the man made lake directly in front of #9 green and replacing it with a huge waste bunker. That plus enlarging the waste bunker behind #9 green make it a great risk/reward short par 4. Decent mid level alternative, shorter, hilly course that is currently in good condition and worth it if you get a good rate. Recommended.

Walked the Blacks (70.1/124/6304) in 3H, 20M on the GK voucher playing mid day as a single. The weather was around 75, clear and breezy. First time playing here in almost 1 1/2 years, they have made some nice changes. Numerous bunkers have been enlarged and they have planted native grass in many of them that will be nasty when it grows up. They have also enlarged the faces of numerous bunkers. Numerous grass areas of the rough have also been taken out as part of turf reduction for water conservation. Finally, even more oak trees have been trimmed or removed. Missing the fairway here is not as penal as it was a decade ago after many large trees have been trimmed or removed. The tees were very good, fairly lush and well maintained. Both the fairways and rough had good coverage. I would categorize them as 2/3 lush and 1/3 thin. The rough also has some hardpan bare spots with the turf removal program. I was very impressed with the newly conditioned traps. You could tell they have built up the faces on some and expanded others. A new trap between holes #2 & #7 will come into play if you are long & left of either hole. The poa annua greens putted nice. Firm, medium fast bordering on fast & holding approach shots well. The customer service from both the pro shop & the starter was excellent, they got me out quickly playing as a single. The cart gal came by 3 different times. Decent alternative, hilly, shorter course that is worth it if you get a good rate. Recommended.

Walked the blues this morning 6/6/2016 with my buddy Matt using the GK coupon at $25.00. Very nice starter David hooked us up at 9:10am fitting us in on #1 tee as the course was starting on #10 this morning with a senior tournament with a TON of groups. We played in 3 hrs 50 min thanks to David instead of a 5 hr plus round looking at the groups stacked on #10 tee(great customer service). Weather was ideal scoring weather--foggy overcast start with sun piercing through around 70-78 degrees for our entire round. The conditions have actually improved some since my last round here a couple of weeks ago. I thought the greens were even a little quicker and possibly cut more since my last round out here. They are in great shape rolling medium to quick speed. Very little to no ball marks on the greens. They have several undulating potato chip greens that can be challenging. Stay below the pins on several greens here most notably 4.5,12,13. The fairways are in great shape--lush green kikuyu with your ball sitting up. Perfect lies very little problem areas. A treat to see and hit off of. The tees are striped green, lush and might be the best part of the course when it comes to the par 4-5 tee boxes. Some 3 par boxes contained divots. Most boxes are all level. The sand bunkers (which I was not in last round) contained white marble thick beach sand. Like real thick. Was in two bunkers today right greenside on #12 and left greenside on #10--both raked and contained thicker sand that you need to blast out of. Rough--not much to speak of--most places the rough used to be are now woodchips or hardpan dirt---great visual contrast. Great course to work on carving tee shots through treeline fairways. In that this is only 10 min from home I will be giving them more business here with the GK coupon. Recommended with great conditions at this time. 8/10

Not much to add to the earlier review by Kevin. I like the new look of the course, but I think that the sand in the bunkers is almost to soft and fluffy.

Played Saturday, 1:44 tee time with Brian H, lotrgolfer, and rgm2525. I checked in early using the GK Certificate. The employee had trouble with the cert and tried to send me off without paying. I told her to make sure to charge me the $25 or there might be an issue in the future. One of our party was a little late due to horrific traffic on the 101 (if you play here make sure to allow for this). It was my first time here and I thought the course was really nice. A good mix of holes that allow for a variety of clubs off the tee, although I opted for driver most of the time. There are a lot of large oak trees that line the course and a couple that may come into play. Very lush conditions from tee to green. Greens running medium fast and soft enough to hold any decent shot. I fixed a few ball marks on several greens, but there were not a lot. Great bunkering with a lot of soft, white sand. Be careful in the bunkers, because the sand is super soft and deep. When the spiky grass they planted around and in some of the bunkers grows in, it will be very penal. Overall, for the $25 GK certificate, I found this to be a good value. Beware though, the pro shop guy read the certificate and told me I had to call in before using the coupon. I told him somebody else made the tee time and it was my assumption that we all will be using it. He did give me some flack about it being a holiday weekend; I countered that the holiday was on Monday, not Saturday. At any rate, the rest of the personnel at the course were very nice to deal with and the ladies were easy on the eyes, if you get my drift.

Out this morning 5/23/2016 walking the blues with my buddy Matt(Barkydog1) joined by a twosome using the GK certificate for $25.00. Weather was mid to high 60's with a little bit of wind on the back nine. POP was 3 hours 20 minutes never having to wait on one shot. Great pro-shop staff, nice putting green at top of the hill and nice chipping green right next to #1 tee.

This is one of the courses I grew up playing. This is the nicest that I have seen the fairways. They must have overseeded. I would say 75%-85% of the fairways were lush, green with your ball sitting up nicely. They have for sure made some improvements with the overall turf reduction and really put the work into the current fairways. One big thing I noticed that is different after some recent tweaking here is they removed 35% or so of the rough around the fairways and even up to some greens. These areas are now woodchips which are tough to negotiate chips with. It gives a great aesthetic look but makes scrambling around here a little tougher. Today I can't believe I am saying this but I would rate the fairways here an 8/10. Historically they have been spotty but I thought they were beautiful today.

The usually bumpy poa greens were rolling quicker and were not as bumpy as they historically are. I was very impressed with the greens. Rolling probably a 9.5 or so on the stimp holding irons like darts. You do not want to miss chips on the wrong side of the pins here. I would rate the greens an 8/10. They have several greens #4, #5, #12 and #13 where you do not want to be putting downhill.

The tees looked so beautiful looking down on the course when I was checking in. They were striped green, lush and mostly all level. The par 4 and 5 tees were a 8.5-9/10. Some of the 3 pars had sand filled areas but not to bad. I am rating the overall tees a 8/10.

The bunkers are the most visually and different part of this course. All bunkers have been remodeled since my last visit here years ago. They are all white marble thicker sand , have bigger grass lips and they are plentiful. The most interesting new bunker is the hidden one along the cart path on #14. If you try and cut the corner on that par 5 you might be in it. Some of the bunkers have been connected to new bunkers. I was impressed with the bunker complexes and am rating them an 8.5/10.

Overall the course is in great condition. I am not sure I am a huge fan of the woodchips but can understand the turf reduction decision really in not having to water more parts of the course. Los Robles's back nine and front nine are two different courses. Don't get to cocky after a good score on the front as the back can tear you up.

For sure recommended especially with the current GK coupon.

Played Sunday 5/15 at 11:28 as a twosome with my boy Mr. Bugs. POP was around 4:30...not horrible for a Sunday afternoon. I played there last Sunday as well...had to come back because it's in such good shape right now. The changes to the course are complete, and I love them. They've added lots of bunkers, and redesigned all of the original ones. Many of the new ones are strategically placed in landing areas, like at the bottom of the corner on the dogleg right par 5 14th. The first time around may lead to a surprise or two. The lake on 9 is now a huge bunker/waste area with an opening on the right. Driving the green is now a definite option! Currently, the course is very lush and green. The fairways are still a mix of grasses, but well maintained and offered nice lies. The rough is not too penal and relatively thick. Turf reduction has created many more areas with wood chips. The greens are very soft and receptive, running around 9.5 or so on both days. They were a little more bumpy than i prefer, but not too bad. Service is always great in the proshop, and cart service was plentiful. I'm very impressed with the changes to the course. I highly recommend Los Robles right now. It's definitely come a long way.

Played 5-13-16 early morning walking using the GK coupon for $25. Joined a threesome and we finished in 3 hours 45 minutes with some waiting on the back side for the back niners. Tee boxes were in okay shape mostly level and semi-lush. Fairways were a mix of different grasses with some small bare spots, but lies were still descent. Rough was pretty short, maybe an inch longer then fairways with some bare spots. The new bunkers are in real nice shape with very soft white sand. Greens were rolling pretty good with medium/fast speed, and very soft. I like the changes they have made to the bunkers, it gives the course a much more interesting look without really changing any of the holes. If you haven't played here in a while I would recommend giving it a try.

I've played here three times over the past few months during the construction. I wanted to give an update and my opinion of the course because it differs from the previous reviewers.

They are removing sod and placing wood chips in a lot of areas but most of the construction that will affect you is the bunkers. It appears they are redoing almost every bunker on the course. Not just filling them new sand but completely digging them up, re shaping and new drainage, and new sod. Even on 9 the lake has been emptied and they're ready to do something there. I can't wait to see what it looks like when they're done. They've added a new gigantic waste bunker on 13 that looks great. So this construction obviously affects the course. If you hit it in a bunker that is being worked on it will be a drop so the course is actually playing easier. I can't say the work they're doing bothered me that much. They probably should drop their rate some. The construction would surely bother some but for those who aren't bothered by that type of thing it is totally playable. All the holes.

Tee boxes were relatively lush and flat. Fairways quite green and when the greens are healed slow and true.
