Decided to make the 100+ mile drive to play Moorpark. We had the first time off at 6:40, so expected it to be a little chilly and still a bit dark. While the temp was fine, it was so foggy, we saw none, zero, nada, zilch, of ANY of the front nine (Ridgeline) and the first hole on the Creekside. Then it cleared somewhat so that at least we had 150+ yards of visibility. Let me tell you that when you have no idea where to hit, no knowledge of the holes, and no local knowledge, playing conditions are brutal.

The course was in nice condition, albeit very wet from the fog. Greens were good, but again, due to the dampness, not all that quick. Plenty of grass in the fairways. Only in one bunker, and the sand was very compacted.

Staff was "cordial", but not friendly. While I tried to make the best of things, it was disappointing not to be able to see 11 or 12 of the holes at all. A long way to drive, and not exactly inexpensive green fees. But hey, it's golf and that's never a bad way to spend time!

Played 9-22-16 early morning joining a threesome and playing in about 3 hours and 45 minutes with no waiting. We played the Canyon/Creekside rotation. Tee boxes were in good shape, some were a little long but still descent. Fairways were very nice, mostly lush with a few small brown areas which really didn't effect play. Rough was in good shape pretty thick in some areas and other areas that was cut down pretty low. Was in one bunker on 17 which had nice brown sand. Greens were rolling very nice at medium/fast pace and holding shots very well. A few of the greens on Creekside were still showing some signs from punched but it did not effect the roll. Found a great price on GN for $30 which is a steal for weekday morning.

Played 9/17 in the afternoon on a golfnow hot deal for $70. Course was busy and at times a little slow, but mostly the pace was acceptable. It's in good shape, apart from the greens. Slow, bumpy, wet, they show heavy traffic. Guess that's what comes from defending the course against the heat. Grass around the greens was pretty moist too, which made chipping a little tough. Rest of the course was in good shape, showing some shades of brown but nothing you wouldn't play from. Service was good, range always beautiful. For $70 I think it's a great course.

Played yesterday with 3 friends. Moorpark is in great shape right now. I would highly recommend getting out there now since the course is looking and playing great. Greens were smooth (although only about 10 on the meter), Fairways and tee boxes were in great shape. The bunkers were very consistent and played great. My only gripe was the rough....Let me explain, on hole nine my group was told to pick up the pace a little. Hole 9 was a par 5 and we were about to hit our second shots and the group in front was just finishing putting. Here was the problem, the rough is thick and finding your ball just off the fairway takes too much time and is frustrating. We finished in under 4.5 hours but thought it unnecessary for the marshal to approach us on this. For most of the round we were waiting to hit our shots (not long) but at times we did fall behind while trying to locate a ball in the rough but that's golf. Keep all eyes on your tee shots, you'll need them when missing the fairway.

* staff was friendly and check in super easy.
* facilities are very nice, good first impression
* driving range was disappointing with mats when there was plenty of grass there to use, but good chipping area and large practice green.
* Fairways - mostly lush, thin in patches here and there, but I was pretty impressed.
* Rough - tricky....seemed like a variety of grasses making up the rough and nothing overly penalizing but still got your attention.
* Greens - rolled pretty good 2-3 weeks after punching. good speed...maybe a 10
* Bunkers - seems fluffy mostly...I was only the greenside bunker on Creekside #18 and it was a bit thin.

* Extras - GPS, integrated ball/club washer, cooler on Cart. Cart girl came around several times.

overall I really liked the course and if you are in the area I would highly recommend it. I might have to say that was the nicest public course in southern California (Excluding Palm Springs area) I have played...yep, better than Maderas.

2 thumps up from this guy!!!! saw the GK plaque in pro shop for "Best Course - 2008" I think.

Four of us went off at Moorpark at 2pm and finished in an even four hours. Nobody in front of us all day and we lost the group behind after 4/5 holes. We played the Creekside/Ridgeline nines. Tee boxes were good to very good. Fairways were mostly good on the Creekside. Ridgeline was a little more spotty with #1 specifically being a lot of Ground Under Repair.

They punched the greens a week ago (hence the GolfNow deal) but I had looked on GK and didn't see an alert (It's possible I missed it). But generally, the greens ran fine if not a little slow. I bet they're lighting when perfect. I was surprised that I had to fix 3/4 ballmarks on every green. You'd think with rates typically north of $100 that people would fix ballmarks. There were a few GUR spots on the greens too but we never were close to the,

Most of the fairway divots were exploders and unfixable...a fact which was a bummer since the seed bottles on the carts were empty. Service was very good. Saw the drink cart three times and the starter was very friendly. Range was the mats today but it looks like the grass is open most of the time.

Played Creekside then Ridgeline, late afternoon weekday. Not too windy, course in very good shape. They obviously take the "private club" business model seriously and there was lots of evidence of maintenance efforts that would be overlooked by most other courses being part of the Moorpark plan.

Just feels nicely manicured.

Look for deals weekdays and late afternoons. Avoid the heat and the wind.

Suggest you avoid the Ridgeline nine, has a few Mickey Mouse holes.

Not sure about weekends but I usually play on Mondays. I think this course with 27 different holes and great conditions is a SUPER good deal and would recommend it highly. The only thing I thought was average was the sand traps........many had a hard layer of clay underneath. With many courses aerating around this time, give this place a try especially if you are over 55!

Played the Blues on the Canyon Crest/Creekside combo (6506/71.5/133) on a Golf Now Hot Deal. Was matched up with Arly, Ryan & Chris, all nice guys to play with. POP was excellent, 4H in mid 60's, calm, overcast conditions. The tees were mostly level & lush with few unfixed divots. The fairways were decent and had good coverage, maybe 50-50 thin/lush. The rough was mostly lush with occasional hardpan or thin lies. The green side traps were well maintained with nice sand. The fairway bunkers were firmer and less maintained. The greens putted nice, medium fast, firm but still held approach shots well. The customer service was excellent, they got me right out. The starter was on top of things and the cart person was around a couple of times, a rarity on a weekday morning. They also have a nice restaurant onsite. Moorpark can be a really challenging track, one of the few semi public courses in Ventura County. Most holes have hazards down one or both sides. Many holes have elevation changes and forced carries over hazards, this is not a course for beginners. All 3 nines are VERY unforgiving on crooked shots, you can accumulate penalty shots in bunches here if you are more than about 10 yards left or right of almost any fairway. If you want to be challenged, this is a picturesque course up/down rolling hills that is usually not super crowded. Definitely recommended.
