Greens are turtlebackish but mostly large and flat. They roll fairly true, about an eight on the stimp. Most of the greens are bunker free, uphill with ample chipping areas.
This is a very narrow course with three sets of 9. It's what I would classify as a gimmicky course. The fairways are generally rediculously narrow. You have to hit over many canyons and off the tops of many mountains, literally.
The only course built in the last 20 years that is a true to golf course is Rustic. Courses like this one are just a joke. Golf is not meant to be played to a 20 yard wide fairway. Like Angeles, the cost of water and land seemed to play the most important factor in the design.
Beyond this though there is a much bigger problem. The clubhouse and attendants definitely have a private country club feel. And they sent us off as a twosome followed by two more twosomes behind us. And that's country clubish too. But the members there get carts emblazoned with MEMBER on it. Who needs it? Not me.
I will never return to this place. There are some very memorable holes. But I would rate many many courses ahead of this place even without the resentful membership.

Played MPCC on Sunday (3/29) mid-morning. Overall the course is in good shape. It is mostly green and pleasing to the eye. Tee boxes are fine. The fairways are a bit thin in spots. Not what I would call lush, but in good shape and very playable. Though I had some tight lies in the fairways, I never had a bad lie. The rough is in good shape. About 1 - 2 inches in length. The greens were smooth and ran medium speed. They're usually a little quicker than this at Moorpark. But no complaints. I wasn't in a bunker. So I can't speak to the condition of the sand. Really enjoyed the round. This is a good time to go play MPCC

Played Presidents Day morning playing Canyon Crest and Creekside (I think). As normal, the conditions are fantastic for a semi-private course and well worth the $70 greens fees. Tee boxes were level and mowed short (with a few exceptions), fairways were lush and soft with full coverage, and the rough was about 2 inches with great coverage. Greens were fast but held shots well. A decent amount of unrepaired ball marks can be found which from my experience is common at this course. I repaired at least 3 on every hole. The greens can be very tricky to read and can easily lead to 3 putts if not careful.

The fairways at Moorpark are decently wide but beware - if you're not hitting your driver well expect a high score. The native surroundings will gobble up your ball.

Hole variety here is great with each hole having a different look. Pace of play was fantastic, very little waiting.

If you enjoy this type of course $70 is a very fair price.

I guess I should have checked the weather forecast before booking my 12:40 time here today (GN hot deal for $55). There wasn't a cloud in the sky in OC when I left mid-morning, but it got uglier the further north I went. At the course, there was a light mist while I was waiting to tee off, but it didn't seem to deter anyone and felt like it would pass. I was paired with a twosome and we teed off on time, starting on the Creekside nine. By the 5th hole, it was raining pretty good and didn't let up for awhile. Those guys bailed out on the 7th, but I soldiered on. By the time I made the turn onto Canyon Crest, I had it all to myself and blasted through without a problem other than being soaked to the bone. I did finally get to test out my snazzy new rain gloves, which I had to get out of my car at the turn. They definitely made a huge difference! The course was in okay winter shape I suppose. It played better than it looked, but definitely not worth the rack rate right now. The tee boxes had been overseeded this winter and they were great. The fairways were thin and tight dormant bermuda, but mostly played pretty consistently. The rough was more patchy looking, but cut down so it wasn't much of a factor. The greens were soften significantly by the rain, but still rolling pretty quick and smooth on putts. I noticed some small, ugly (diseased?) splotches on a few greens. They didn't come into play with today's pin placements, but it didn't look too good. The sand was very damp, but playable and clearly well-maintained. The main reason I played today was to satisfy the "completist" in me and play the Canyon Crest nine, which I didn't play the only other time I was here. As I expected, it is definitely the least interesting of the three nines. Of course, it was hard to fully enjoy it playing in the rain and rushing through the round. The 9th hole is sweet, I'll give them that! Overall, the rain marred my experience today, but I still love the course and the service was solid. The starter was especially nice as I waited to tee off and even gave me a cookie! I wish Moorpark CC was closer to home and much, much cheaper, though.

Pretty blissful day this one ... Super Bowl Sunday afternoon, Moorpark CC, never waiting on a single tee shot. Not once. The day could not have run smoother, and it was also even more fun playing (for my skill level) a really good round. My friend and I got an online $60 deal for a 12:08 tee time and starter even set us off early. We played the Creekside 9 first and then Canyon Crest for the last 9. The fairways condition is quite good - that is to say that despite some dried out areas (gets quite hot in Moorpark), it never is so burnt out that it's not entirely playable. And it plays well. On Canyon Crest there were a few areas that were roped off under repair, but for some reason it wasn't bothersome. Ideal? No, but hardly worth a whine. Greens were slower on the front 9, but overall in very solid condition. Very few ball marks, and while there are occasional dry areas, the GK did a good job of moving the pins well away from them. Rolled true and very tricky but fair all around. Sand was strange, but luckily didn't get into much. There would be one trap with a thin but playable hardpan right next to another with pretty perfect sand. That was odd, but didn't think much of it. Tee boxes are solid all around - never one issue. Very nice. Rough was cut to a nice length as well - even advantageous in some cases if you really needed to get under the ball to get out of an awkward spot. Certainly not a downside. POP was great as we were never once held up waiting for the group in front of us that wasn't really there. Starter even told us Creekside was wide open so that was fantastic. It did seem to stack up behind us though a bit but it moved along just fine and never got any hint of complaint. Think everyone was just enjoying a gorgeous day at a fine resort. One minor 'gripe.' The GPS works great and all and is absolutely necessary on this course, but it would be great if it was the touch screen kind that you could point out the landing area you wanted and get yardage. So many areas on this course where that would be beneficial. Loved the challenge of the holes. So much variety in an 18 and plenty of spots to score well. But of course it's also a terrific challenge with a number of forced carries (long ones too) and intelligent hazard placement that really makes you pick a good spot and commit to it. Some really nice scenery to enjoy out there as well - for me #9 on Canyon Crest is one of the best finishing holes I've ever played. Helps to have made par on it as well ... So all in all, fantastic day. The kind of day that always makes you want to come back out and play.

Played the blues on the Creekside-Canyon Crest combo (6506/71.0/130) on a Golf Now Hot Deal for $36.49 including a cart. Was matched up with Matt and we got in 27 holes in 5 1/2 hours, so the POP was excellent. We played through a couple of groups and rarely waited on a beautiful, partly cloudy afternoon around 70 degrees. It was a bonus that Matt shot his all-time best round of 73 today! The greens putted nice, medium fast and held approach shots well. There were several greens on the Creekside that had patches where they had done some maintenance. They did not look as good as I remember Moorpark's greens looking in the past, but no complaints with the way they held shots or rolled. The fairways had good coverage, maybe 2/3 lush, 1/3 thin. The rough was mostly lush with occasional hardpan or thin lies. the traps were well maintained with nice sand. The customer service was excellent, they got us right out and the starter was really managing the course putting groups on all 3 nines to start. When we made the turn, we were given the option of which 9 to play next, and chose Canyon Crest because Ridgeline was backed up. No cart person, but they have a nice restaurant onsite. Moorpark is a really challenging track, one of the nicer and more expensive public courses in Ventura County. It's a treat to play here, especially when I get a deal like I did today. All 3 nines are VERY unforgiving on crooked shots, you can accumulate penalty shots in bunches here if you are more than about 10 yards left or right of almost any fairway. Most holes have hazards down one or both sides. Many holes have elevation changes and forced carries over hazards, this is not a course for beginners. If you want to be challenged, this is a very picturesque course that is usually not super crowded.

Played 11-24-14 Canyon/Creekside early morning with GDR23 . Tee boxes where in good shape, lush and level. Fairways where a little thin with some brown spots but not to bad. Rough was thick around the greens but not to long in fairways. Was in one bunker that had nice soft sand. Greens where rolling pretty good but a bit inconsistent in speed and a little to soft for my liking. Have seen the course greener at this time of year but with lack of rain its playing real nice.

Got an incredible deal this morning 11/24/2014 thanks to my buddy RGM2525 as we both played Moorpark CC this morning teeing off at 7am despite very windy cold 25mph-35mph conditions . He had a 2 for 1 deal which only was 20 bucks a person. We played 27 holes and had a blast---we played the blue tees playing the Canyon Crest-Creekside rotation and then played Creekside again. Despite the wind we still had a blast and played great. Had a 36 on my last nine on Creekside with a couple birdies and a double on #12. The wind was howling in our faces on #8 and #9 on Creekside both times around. Conditions were as follows: Greens rolling medium paced(10 stimp) with very little ballmarks, no bounces and to the naked eye walking up to the green they looked perfect. They were very soft. Both of our soft spikes just walking made elephant footprints. They held iron shots like darts and were very receptive. From green to green they seemed to vary a little speed wise which made it interesting. The fairways looked like the wind had hardened them up the last couple of days. Like most courses(due to lack of rain) there were areas of hardpan but for the most part I thought there was ample cushion. They were not like carpet and lush like I have seen them in years past. Was in 2 sand bunkers for 27 holes. Both were raked nicely and had just enough sand in them. The tees were semi-lush and some teeing grounds were not perfectly level but overall they were nice. The rough lining the greens and fairways were nice and green and lush and in good shape. The staff here are very friendly...the starter is a hoot and stated to us " what the heck are you guys doing out in this weather". Layout is strong...many forced carries, some reachable par 5's, long par 4's, very scenic elevated par 3's. Canyon Crest is the 9 to score on. Creekside is a very fun and challenging layout. We did not play Ridgeline which has a couple holes I don't care for but is just as fun to play. This is a course I would recommend and maybe make a whole day out of with some lunch in between.
