Shorter review: winter conditions with signs of minor maintenance throughout.

Details: Course is largely dormant, save for tees and greens. They are spray-painting the fairways (why bother? Seems like a colossal waste of money?) and the resulting look is worse than dormancy IMO, as the dye dries in different shades. And while they are clearly dormant, there is a healthy pad under the ball and they are generally fine to hit from - 6.5/10

Rough is part-dormant and generally around an inch, although there are some thicker, greener spots here and there that are difficult to hit out of - also 6.5/10

Sand is a mixed bag - a few traps were full, while a few looked full but had a compacted, wet base below the top surface - 7/10 here.

Maintenance issues begin with the tee boxes which looked like they had been overseeded and top-dressed recently. So while you could still find a spot to tee it up from, they looked pretty scruffy (a few were significantly crowned too) - 6/10.

Practice green was stellar and was looking forward to that continuing on the course. And while they speed was similar (around 10.5 my estimate) the greens on the course looked a bit dinged up by comparison with repaired marks and an occasional maintenance issue. 3 on Ridge had lots of hex plug repairs, for instance, while 3 on CC had been punched on the front part to combat a fungus and 6 had a thicker, sandy top dressing. Still, they putted well and true for the most part - 7.5 to 8 here.

Course was empty and playing long at times into the wind. I'd certainly play again for the 79 rate I found on GN but I wouldn't pay more.

Played Moorpark Sunday, Nov. 19 teeing off at around 10:50am. We had a tee time at Los Robles for 10:40am, but there were crazy slow tournaments that were out in front of us, and that had pushed the start times back at least 35 min. No thanks, we'd like to finish before dark! We found a 10:50am at Moorpark, pulled the rip cord from Robles and flew over there. We made it in time to hit some balls on their beautiful range, and hit a few putts on the screaming fast greens. POP was a leisurely 4:20, and we felt like we had the course to ourselves. It was a gorgeous day with light winds, so we couldn't ask for anything better. Customer service was excellent, and while we didn't see the drink cart until 9, we saw it at least 3 times on the back. We played the Ridgeline/Canyon Crest combination, and I realized I'd never played the Canyon Crest 9 as we made the turn. The course conditions are very good right now. Tee boxes are level and lush, with some expected divot damage on the par 3's. The fairways are very lush and green, and really nice to hit from. The rough is no joke right now. It's extremely lush and thick, and your ball definitely sits down, making finding balls just off the fairway quite challenging. Rough around the greens is beautifully lush and thick. I was in a couple of greenside bunkers, and they had nice sand that was great to play from. I was in one fairway bunker, which had firmer, more crusty sand which is easier to hit long shots out of. Nice. The greens were extremely fast...I'd say 11-11.5 on the stimp and pretty firm. Most solid iron shots would hold, but even most wedges were releasing a bit. They rolled beautifully and true. I find Moorpark's greens don't break as much as you'd think, and pace is the most critical factor. Moorpark isn't usually one of my go-to courses, but it definitely gained a lot of points with me on Sunday. The price usually makes things less crowded on the weekends, and the conditions are really great, so I definitely recommend it right now.

Tee boxes still a mess, sand traps with standing water and too wet, fairways saturated with water at times, greens fast and rolling nice. It was my first time playing here and it was very disappointing, not worth the money at all.

Played today (Saturday 10/7). Course has changed a lot in the last month or so. Overall, still in decent shape. Tee boxes are a mess, recently over-seeded and very sandy. All three courses have been undergoing some maintenance over the last month. Canyon Crest had the rough over-seeded, the green were sanded and was cart path only. Lots of water on the course. Sand traps were either muddy or hard pan. Greens had a lot of ball marks but rolled OK and were fast. This place usually has the best conditions around and I am sure it will be back up to speed in the next month but today we a little disappointing.

Played the Ridge/Creek nines on Tuesday. 6:40am tee time, so no issues with pace of play. Bob, the starter actually allowed us to get out a few minutes early, which was appreciated. Greens were good... Continue »

Played the Ridge/Creek nines on Tuesday. 6:40am tee time, so no issues with pace of play. Bob, the starter actually allowed us to get out a few minutes early, which was appreciated. Greens were good, but not as quick as I'd prefer. Fairways were nice, as were the tee boxes.

This course is a bit of a drive from South Orange County, but worth it. Always enjoy playing here and the staff was great. Last time I played here it was so foggy, did not see any holes until #12, so at least this time, we got to enjoy the scenery and actually have some idea where to hit it. Great time at a great course

Played MPCC Monday 7/17/17 with a 7:30am tee time. Played the Ridgeline and Creekside nines in 3 hours as a twosome. The course is in wonderful shape. Tees are mostly good with a few uneven areas. The fairways are lush with a nice cushion under your ball. The rough is very nice at 1 - 3 inches and somewhat penal. The rough that is 10 - 30 yards from the green is very spongy and difficult to hit from. The greens were smooth and ran medium fast. They were excellent. The bunkers have nice firm brown sand. I highly recommend this course for its' condition and challenge.

Played Saturday. Being managed by Troon now. Rates are down a little and tee times spaced out better. Played Ridgeline/Canyon Crest. Courses in good shape. Greens rolled really smoothly and held shots very well. Fairways overall very good. Pace of play was great as for some reason, it was not very crowded. Some of the best playing conditions anywhere near LA.

Played Moorpark Country Club Monday with fellow GK Gurus. Enjoyed all three 9’s, 27 holes. Super time.

The golf course was in excellent playing condition. Greens running mostly smooth, moderate speed and holding compressed shots. Rough mostly fescue/rye, lush and beautiful dark green. The fairways, highlight of the conditions IMO. Pure tight light green lush bermunda. Such a pleasure to play them. You get mostly perfect lies to compress irons producing lots of spin, the ball runs out for good length on your drives and they are flat out gorgeous in contrast to the rest of the course. I noticed some fairways on the Creekside 9 more dry with a few light brown areas but on the Ridgeline 9 and especially Canyon Crest 9, perfect. The bunkers had quality sand yet were mostly firm. The tee boxes in great shape, mostly lush.

I've played Moorpark CC many times but never all 27 holes in same day. What a pleasure that was. All the holes are challenging/unique and each 9 has it's own character. This course is truly a masterpiece. It trails through hills with scenic views. There are many extremely elevated tee boxes and doglegs. The greens are large yet challenging. The fairways do not have many bunkers but will challenge your accuracy. The green complexes are well guarded by bunkers and hazards. Most Par 5 on all three 9’s gives you opportunities for risk/reward strategy. Pace of Play was fast with our average being 2 hours per 9 holes. They have an exceptional clubhouse, staff and practice facilities. This is my favorite golf course in Ventura County to play. It never gets old and always delivers a great golf experience. Highly recommended.
