Rode the Blacks on Creekside/Ridgeline 73.8/142/7012 this morning 1/21/2020. Thanks to Moorpark CC fitting me in between a small outing. POP was only 3 hrs with beautiful weather in the low 60's with hardly any wind. Had not been here in 16 months or so. Conditions were pretty good for mid January. Greens were in great shape. Soft on approaches yet putting and chipping like glass. Putting just beautiful. You had to be careful on downhillers and could be semi-aggressive on uphillers. I could putt these bent grass greens everyday. Rated 8.5/10 Rough had a beautiful contrast brown dormant look in compasrion to the semi-green fairways. Rough was mostly mowed down dormant brown. Decent condition. Rated 6/10 Fairways semi-lush, tightly mowed and ball sitting up for the most part. Did not have any bad lies in fairways. Rated 7/10. Tees were mostly level and lush and in good shape. Rated 7.5/10. Was in greenside bunker on number 9 Creekside which was raked and contained a nice amount of sand. Saw multiple maintenance workers working on fairway and greenside bunkers on the Ridgeline 9. Very challenging layout from the Blacks on Creekside, nice challenge from Ridgeline and Canyon Crest as well. Course has some epic elevation changes, tough par 4's and some birdie holes here and there. I love coming here to challenge myself. I would highly reccomend Moorpark CC--terrific greens, fun and challenging layout and peaceful area to play.

Played a late Friday round this past weekend at Moorpark - my first time returning in almost four years, so I was quite excited when the opportunity presented itself. My foursome played from the blue tees with cart, and we played the Creekside and Ridgeline nines.

First and foremost, this is not a course for the feint of heart. From the tee, you're either going to face narrow fairways with trouble on either side, or formidable carries over all manner of canyon or some other kind of danger. You also need to really know your distances. This is critical here, along with some degree of accuracy, in order to keep the ball in play.

Definitely a cart-only course, and it was especially challenging because the entire course was Cart Path Only after the recent rains. Not ideal in the least. But understandable.

In truth, I was expecting a little more lush from the fairways, but while the course is imminently playable, it's certainly not lush. You'll find some thin lies for sure and all the grass seems to have a dull fade to it in terms of its color, but there were also a lot of soggy patches that made for difficult shot making when not moved under GUR/winter rules.

The greens were great though and lots of tricky breaks on many of the greens. A lot of small greens, too. But very fun to play and a solid challenge. They're quite fast as well. Bunkers were considerably poor but completely the fault of the recent weather. Looked as if they'd been okay were in not for that. Tee boxes were in good shape.

Playing midweek here for the rate of around $70 is a good deal. The course is very challenging but fun and conditions are good enough to merit that rate without a doubt. However, I'm not sure how I'd feel about the much higher weekend rates currently until the course dries out and the CPO decision changes. But definitely bring your A game or you're in for a hurtin' ...

I played here last Friday, 12/13/2019, with a buddy. We used an Underpar voucher, $55 each, including range balls and cart, 18 holes. We played the Canyon Crest/Ridgeline combination. Afterwards, we paid an additional $27 each to play the Creekside 9.

Tees: We played the blues. Really nice conditions with no issues. Good turf, level, hardly any divots.

Fairways and rough: Good turf to hit from. It appears to be a mix of Bermudagrass and has the appearance of being in dormancy. I never had a bad lie.

Bunkers: I was only in one, Creekside 18, and it was bad. I think it was the worst one on the course. There were lots of small rocks, hard pan, and a thin layer of heavy sand which seemed very finely graded. It was not a good experience. My buddy was in another bunker somewhere else and he had no issues.

Greens: Nicely mowed and rolled. The speed was medium fast and rolled true. Most holes had less break than I was reading into, but I liked the good conditions. I fixed a couple of ball marks, but overall it was really good.

Nicely run course and the facilities are very good. I like it here and if I see any more discounts, I will be back.

Played MPCC as a foursome on Monday, 12/2/19. We teed off at 9:40am and finished at 1:50. It was a nice pace. The weather was near perfect, with the high temperature in the upper 60's and only a slight amount of wind. Moorpark CC is in very nice shape at the moment. Tee boxes are fine. The fairways, although not exceptionally green, are in great shape. Great coverage in every fairway with nice lies in abundance. The rough along the fairway is not too deep in most areas. But some spots could be penal if your ball settled down in the grass. The rough is in good shape. The rough immediately surrounding the greens is in excellent condition. It's very green, lush and a pleasure to hit chips from. The greens are outstanding. Mostly, they were fast, and they all were VERY smooth rolling. My only negative about the greens is that some of the greens were not as fast as most of them, resulting in leaving some putts too short. But this is only a minor issue. The only negative on the course is the bunkers. I was in two of them; one greenside, and one fairway bunker. The sand was hard and crusty - difficult to hit from. I was playing with a member who told me that they are going to be changing the sand in all the bunkers. They've been experimenting with different kinds of sand, and have found one they like. If they correct this, the course will be excellent all around. I highly recommend playing MPCC right now. It is a good challenge and in great shape.

Played Moorpark CC Saturday with 8 of us teeing off at 2pm. POP was good at around 4 hours 15 minutes. I'll preface this review by saying, Moorpark is not my favorite course...I just don't like the design.

The course itself was in very nice condition. Tee boxes were lush and level. The fairways had great coverage and were nice and green. The landing areas had some divots, but they'd mostly been filled in. The highlight of the course are the greens. They were running around 11 on the stimp, and really smooth. A delight to putt on. The rough was thick and lush, about 3 inches and can be penal. The biggest course downfall right now is the sand traps. Many of them are more like dirt traps, with very little base to get under the ball. Customer service was very good, except we never saw a beverage cart all day.

If Moorpark CC is a course you love, put it on your play list because the conditions are very good right now.

Greens were in good shape and pace was good. Place is usually in great shape so I will be back as it is one of my favorites.

We teed off today at 8:00 on a perfect day finishing in 4 hours with no waiting. The price was right for me since they give a free birthday round used within three days of your birthday as long as the others pay the rack rate. Senior rates are $55 but you need to pay an extra $24 for a yearly senior card. This is as close as you get to a private course feel in the area. The entrance is great, no crowds, beautiful views, and great golf. They have 27 holes and we played the Ridgeline-Creekside nines. Conditions were great all around however there were a couple of areas that could improve and probably will with more time. The fairway on Ridgeline was brown and had cut grass shavings throughout and the Creekside fairways were near perfect. Thought that was odd but maybe they stabbed them at different times. Still they played great nonetheless. The bunkers were hard and inconsistent probably due to the amount of rain this year. Other then that the course is is super shape and should be played if you get a chance. Recommended

I would probably give it a 6 to 6.5 in its current condition. Played MPCC on Monday 2/25/19 as a foursome at 9:20am. The weather was perfect. 68 degrees, subtle breezes, and abundant sunshine. Overall, the course is in good winter condition. The fairways are markedly contrasting with the rough. The rough is green and somewhat lush. The fairways are brown and yellow. So they really stand out. The fairways were in pretty good shape. Not very appealing to look at, but good lies were abundant. Usually, there was a decent amount of cushion under your ball. But they were a bit on the thin side.

The rough is generally around 1 - 2 inches. Not very penal. Good to hit from. There were some thin areas around the greens that were brown and thin. The grass would grab your club and stop it cold if you dug the leading edge of your wedge at all. Had to pick it clean or use the bounce on the club to avoid this. The greens were in great condition. The were the fastest I've seen them. I was told they were close to 13 on the stimp. Being above the hole was very difficult. They rolled mostly true. But, occasionally, you would get some wobble from your line. The two bunkers I was in had good sand to hit from. The course is enjoyable to play. Once spring comes with the warmer temperatures the course will green up nicely and be visually stunning.

Rode the blues on Friday January 25, late review. POP 4 hours 9:50 tee time as a foursome. Course hasn’t changed since my last review. Tee boxes, lush and even, fairways great, no bad lies, greens really fast, it was windy so putting was difficult. I was in one trap and it was ok, this was the only negative. Rough was not an issue, really never is on the hilly courses. Had a burger after and it was ok, view was nice on the patio so that makes up for it. Customer service at restaurant was good, pro shop is ok. I got the Groupon deal for $55 with 20% off so it was $44, which is a deal. They used to be on GolfNow, but have been taken off. I asked the Proshop if they’d be back on and he said probably not. For $55 I definitely recommend, but not the rack rate. Too many good courses to pay rack rate anywhere.
