Played the Vineyard Sat at 8*30. Very much the same as my last review in Nov, except for the greens. Tee'd off on time. Check in easy & friendly.
This course is generally forgiving with larger greens. Some contour to them so keeps you on your toes. The last 4 holes are all over or around water with the signature 18th Island hole waiting with a blast of wind in your face! A great place to play, especially in Summer when the cool breeze is welcome.
Carts are basic, no GPS.
Tee boxes are pretty good. Good run out on the tightly cut Fairways. They are greening up after dormant winter, but they are never "Lush" here. Rough just a weedier version of the fairways at this time, not very penal at all.

The Greens were recently aerated (3/21-22 according to GK, Gracias!) They seem to have been punched with smaller holes & the Crew have done a good job in filling them in. Overall a bit bumpy & tough to stop a shot from distance on them. The Good is that they are in much better condition than I would have thought after only 10 days. I look forward to putting on them in a couple weeks. Good Job RR! Areas around the Greens are decent with a few hard pan lies & mostly tightly cut collars.

Bunkers could use some more sand, but that applies to most courses.

Overall a fun course that should be in great shape after the greens finish healing. I recommend.

Play day was Saturday, 03/13/22, 10:30 am with a little breeze when we got to the back nine. $45 greens fee + $16 to ride.

Our pace of play was slow- it was very a busy day on the Vineyards course- five hours!! I think it's because of the design being tight some holes in front. The staff at the pro shop remains helpful as yesterday when we played the Lakes course- helpful. The course marshals rode around passing us and doing what they do but everyone were just right behind each other as it should be.

The greens were a little inconsistent as some were much faster and slower than each other. More noticeably the old holes in the back nine were pretty consistent in speed. There were a few ball marks. The greens were medium in firmness and they were consistent that way throughout.

The two bunkers I was in were much like the Lakes course- it could use more sand but it isn't bad to get out of.

The teeing grounds were level and had patchy grass.

The fairways were closely mowed and there were some deep un-sanded divots in mostly the short par fours. The fairways on Vineyard seems to run a little more than the Lakes and I think the grounds were just a little more firm.

The roughs were low and were not penalizing at all, although in some areas, your ball could sit in between some clumps of grass and now you're ball is in between clumps of grass that you have to manage shots with.

Like I've mentioned on the Lakes course review for Saturday play, I've only played the old course course a couple of times before and I vaguely remember some of those old holes, but mostly the the back nine of Vineyard brought me back in time and it was very enjoyable. I am very glad to have the chance to play here.

The marshall spoke with them but had no effect. course was in descent shape and greens ran fairly smooth. many areas of the course have been over watered, with ponds developing in low areas. sand traps were basically mud pits. SCGA wants to save the munis, for what some of the munis charge for the poor conditions and fair customer service maybe we should close lesser performing courses. as for river ridge, please contact Oxnard City Council and ask that they do not renew American Golf's contract

Good evening GK Golfers!! Today, I played River Ridge Golf Course (Vineyard) with my buddies (non GK members) Carlos, Sherwin and Alex. Out Tee Time was at 6:40am we were the second group teeing off. The first group disappear within the 3rd hole. We had the course for our selves and finished in less then 4 hours. I have not played this course in a few months and I was surprised to the golf course is good conditions. Starting with the tee's are well kept and level. I was able to find a place to place my ball and have a well level stance. The fairs ways are in good shape and the rough was not a concerned as it's well kept. In my opinion Vineyard is longer and tougher than the Victoria lakes. The greens are in a very good shape and today's pin placements were very tough. It seems that they had a tournament. The ball was rolling beautiful even so early in the morning. The sand bunkers were well kept and had plenty of sand. I know as was in many of them and I was able to get out of them. If you have not had an opportunity to play, vineyard course, you should come out and play it.

Overall, I rate this course a 7.5. Customer, service as always class A very friendly and treat you with respect.

Played RR Vineyard on Friday 11/19, 9*40 Tee Time.

The course is in really good condition, much better than mid-summer.

Tee boxes are generous in size, always a decent place to tee it up.
The fairways are greener & in much better condition than mid-summer when they were so dry. Still good runout.
Rough is slightly higher cut of fairway fading off to mixed bag of grass/weeds. Decent enough.
Greens are the best they've been since Amer Golf took over. Seemed a bit faster & they rolled really well. No excuses for bad putting.
Collar areas cut low, no check on short shots. One can putt from yards off if the chips aren't working.
POP was a bit slow, 4 hrs 40 minutes.

Drink/Snack cart available a few times. Lunch & beers in Grill afterward very good & reasonably priced.

Recommended!!

Walked the blues this afternoon at 210pm with my buddy Pedro joining a 2ball riding. Pop 4hrs 30 minutes under humid skies with no breeze and Temps in the high 70s. Greens were very soft and semi bumpy and slow. You needed to chip the ball close as bump and runs chipping were still sticking like darts. 6/10 Fairways on the first 13 holes were decent with I would say 60/40 lush to thin coverage. Some dry areas. The last 5 holes in the "residential area" the fairways and rough grass was lush and beautiful. Overall fairways 6/10. Tees were mostly OK level stance, some divots on the par 3s. Rated 6.5/10. Sand was raked and had a thinner base in the one bunker I was in greenside on 6. Rough was a mixed bag the first 13 holes dry and wispy and or lush in sections and then the last 5 holes it was lush. Enjoyable challenging layout with some strong holes like 14 and 18.

Our Saturday Golf Friends of 12 players played RR Vineyard Course today. I'd have to say the overall course conditions are about a 5-6. Most fairways are in decent condition, but some are dried out without much turf. Greens were a little shaggy and very bumpy so soft. Many ball marks and foot prints on the greens. This course used to be in fantastic condition years ago with very fast green. Under new ownership I think they are trying to improve it and it is well worth the money to play. Only 45.00 for a Saturday prime time walking. One of the things I love about River Ridge is their cafe and staff. Valerie is super nice and if you get to play here try their Carnitas Tacos!! I'd say they are the best Carnitas Tacos in Ventura County!!!

Played on Sat 5/9 in a tournament, started at 8*00. Overall pretty good on a perfect Golf weather day. The entire crew are good folks & provide good service. Still on 10 minutes between times, which makes for a fast round. Rakes are back!

Tee boxes; decent coverage, could be flatter but always a level spot on the large tee boxes.

Fairways; Good coverage, not lush at all, but that's the way this course has always been.

Rough; really just a touch more grass & weeds. Not penal unless you get stuck behind a clump of weeds. Some bare areas, but ok.

Greens; Disappointing. Slow due to not being cut tight enough. Bumpy too. Was punched several weeks ago, the punch marks are gone, just not great. Workers have said that AG wants them slow to promote fast play & better scores among the higher handicappers.

POP; was a little over 4 hours, very good on a Sat. Marshalls out & about all morning.

Restaurant is open, but not until 8*am. Cart girl was out.

It's tough to screw up a golf course in a location like this. I plan on being back all summer. Yes, it could be better, especially the Greens, but still a fun course.

Rode the whites with my student this afternoon 5/1/21 for a 18 hole playing lesson teeing off at 1:50pm. Thx to Susan and the professional and friendly RR staff as always . Our Pop was 4 hrs 30 minutes which is not to bad for a Saturday. Weather was breezy for the first hour or so and then the wind stopped and it turned into one of the nicer Oxnard days I have seen. Perfect golf weather. To be fair the course has gone downhill condition wise since AG took over but the course is still very playable and has a fun layout. The greens were on the slower side and were a little bumpy but not to bad. They held irons like absolute darts. Rated 6/10. The fairways were a mix of more thin grass than lush grass. I will say holes 14 through 18 the fairway grass and tees were lusher than the first 13 holes. Rated 6/10. The rough was thin, wispy and mostly dry. Rated 5/10. Was in two greenside bunkers on 6 and 7 that contained a nice sand base and all bunkers had rakes which were awesome. Rated 6.5/10. Tees were mostly level and semi lush and in decent shape. Rated 6.5/10. Despite the course being dry an enjoyable day where both my student and I played very well. Hopefully they can get some more water on the fairways and possibly roll and maintain the greens slightly better. River Ridge like most VC courses has a soft spot in my heart as I played it a bunch growing up.
