Timber creek is a highly rated course by many players in the Sacramento area. We picked up a golf moose 2 for $59, good for weekends too, and it was well worth the fee. The course is situated in a del Webb community so it's designed for enjoyment and playability, maybe more than challenge. The fairways are extremely wide and forgiving. Since the black tees maxed out at 6,485 yards we decided to play there. It definitely adds some interesting angles and a psrticulary daunting tee shot on #10 across a lake. Overall, the course has just a few memorable holes but is well maintained. I would say Fairways are excellent and tees boxes very good. I didn't care for the speed of the greens which were very slow and a bit bumpy, but it's that time of year.

Unfortunately, the restaurant is closed for a major renovation so food and beverage is very thin. We finished our round at 4hr 40 minutes, around 5pm, and there was virtually no food available in the makeshift bar. So, we took our 19th hole at a neighboring course down the street.

Overall, this course is a fine choice and fun to play. On the downside, it was disappointing that there is no gps on the carts or yardage guide available, and yard markers are not abundant.

One thing to checkout nearby, though. Top Golf has opened up in Roseville - 10 minutes from Timber Creek. It's been open one month and is jammed with golfers and non-golfers alike. If you haven't heard of this golf entertainment chain check them out. Wildly popular though waits are over 2 hours to get a stall.

The greens are very challenging and some course knowledge is very helpful. Unfortunately, the course does not have yardage guides or gps, and yard markers are sparse. Still, the greens alone are worth playing this course. Very fast, very true, quick and tough. Most greens have severe undulations and getting above the pin is costly. I can't recall how many putts ran off the green putting downhill in our group, but a lot. As to the course, there are lots of good looks. Every hole is unique with great features, except perhaps one average par 5 on the back. There were only 10 players out all day that we could see, so the pace was perfect. Conditions were excellent tee to green, and bunkers superb. Flat fairway bunkers with good compaction and soft fluffy bunkers greenside. The 18th hole is one of the best finishing holes in Northern California. This course is a real good setup and very well maintained. I sure hope to get an opportunity to play again.

Putting politics aside, as a friend reminded me, Donald Trump has done good things for the game of golf. I played the course wednesday, 9/14, on a 2pm twilight as an invited guest and was more than impressed with the course. Ocean views, with Catalina Island, in the distance from every hole at the course. Truly - all 18 are ocean view. The course and experience are exceptional. I've played Sandpiper in Santa Barbara many times, and felt humbled realizing it's no rival to the ocean views exhibited at this course. This course is superior in every respect, and in some ways equivalent to the best in the monterey area (which in my view, means best in state). It's hard to find fault with anything. Top ratings for course, conditioning, facilities, service and experience. I realize some will find fault for various reasons, notwithstanding views on Trump personally, but the course has very few rivals for sheer beauty in California. Maybe just Pebble Beach. This is a special place.

The course is in very good condition. Even with the excessive heat, they keep the fairways in good shape and all is well -mowed and trim. Some areas are brown, as expected, but lies are generally good even in dry spots. The greens were even moist and leaving pitch marks on approach, and I teed off at 12:30 today. The pace was very quick - I finished in 2.5hrs with no waiting anywhere - thankfully, because it was 95 degrees when I started and 102 when I finished. The design and layout of the course is challenging and fun. Fairways are very wide, so you can almost always hit wide and have a play.

Bad news on the horizon for Players Club members. I was told today (apparently, management heard yesterday) that La Purisima's new owners are backing out of the long-standing players club arrangement with Hunter Ranch. So, 2016 will be the last year members of Hunter Ranch and LaP can enjoy reduced reciprocal rates. Really sorry to hear that, as I play both with regularity.

We had an opportunity to play this course yesterday. It lived up to my expectation of what a challenging, but fair, TPC course ought to be. Although it's designed purposely to provide PGA level play, it also played fairly for an amateur like me.

As for the course, we were told it will be over-seeding in the next couple of weeks. Perhaps even better conditions are near. Overall, the greens were fantastic! I'd guess they were running about 11 on the stimp meter, and definitely rolling true. The greens held shots and members appear to be very good at fixing ball marks. Despite the drought, the fairways are also in very good shape. There are areas around the rough that are patchy, but nothing that impacts play if you're generally in position. Tee boxes are not memorable, which for me means level and groomed. Nice work. As for the design, before going I'd read several reviews that described blind shots, odd routing and quirky holes. I didn't find that to be true, except for #15. It's weird - no denying that, but I guess members just learn to live with it. Fortunately, we invested in the $8 yardage guide and it gave us all the information we needed. Maybe that's why we didn't feel there were lots of blind shots. I'd highly recommend that anyone playing the course the first time get one. It will save you the guessing. Lastly, with private clubs, the feel of a course is just as important as the course itself, in my opinion. TPC Valencia seems like an enjoyable place to be a member, and while the facilities exude class and attention, it feels like casual and relaxed. And the service is first-rate. In our case, the starter, Merle, was particularly pleasant and helpful. He really gave us great tips about course management, design layout and features. So, no real complaints today. We could have benefited from access to more water stations on this very hot day, but we survived. I'm not sure what people in this area think of TPC Valencia relative to other private clubs, but I'd guess it's a top contender.

Played Wente today with GK'er Big_O. It lived up to expectations, as usual. Just to be fair, while great, there are a few course conditioning issues around the rough. It definitely doesn't affect play, but otherwise takes from the almost always perfect ambience of Wente. Some vineyard removal has occurred and heavy equipment can kick up the occasional dirt cloud, but that's a minor distraction. Don't let it stop you from coming out. There are deals right now and we got a golf moose 2 for $119 that was well worth it. Highly recommend.

They changed the name to include brewery, but not yet. Golf is it. Played a late afternoon for $30 and that's fair. Got in all 18 and pace of play was fine at 3hrs 45 minutes. Like many courses this one is dry in spots but working to keep the position spots green and trim. Greens roll true and fair. There are lots of homes around this course, but set back far enough that they don't come into play. There is an oddly high amount of wildlife in and around the course in late afternoon. Even a bobcat walking down the cart path behind the 7th green. That caused me to take pause. A real first for me. Once saw a rattlesnake on a cart path at Wente, but this was just an interesting. Good course for the fee, but tight fairways. Can be trouble if you're not driving the ball well.

Played a 1pm tee time on a real quality course and test. The tournament course is tough, and the strong winds didn't help. I didn't score well but that's on me. The course conditions were excellent! Fairways moderately lush and the greens true and well maintained. It's probably one of the better conditioned courses out there right now. I highly recommend if you're playing well. Only downside was pace of play. The round was 5 + hours with a lot of waiting on tee boxes. Not sure what happened in front of us, but this started happening by about the 3rd hole. Still, great course and well worth the stop if in the area.

This course has it all. More signature holes than is fair. It's hard to pick one. Course conditions are excellent, weather was perfect, and only 20 people on course all day. We are staying at the pronghorn facility and that only complements the whole experience. This course is deservedly included on any list of top courses. Highly recommend.

It's very slow here, but makes for a good warm up round. Not sure what to make of the course and resort. It was recently purchased by holiday inn chain, and I've never known them to be in the golf or resort business. It's a curious pairing. The course has some regulars and a few guest players like myself. The carts have no gps and there are no yardage guides available. The front desk guy said the course is well marked and said "basically what you see is what it is". I think he's right. They promote this as the only Arnold Palmer signature course in Oregon. I don't know what arnies deal is beyond the design, but he's not helping his branding here. Overall, course conditions ok. It's April, so I don't expect any better. Green fees with cart overpriced but holiday inn must be looking for a return on capital.

The greens were rolling particularly well, even with light rain early in the morning. The course is looking healthy. Unfortunately, it is still a disappointingly slow round out here. Just about 5 hours. I had a lot of time to check out the only on-course snack bar menu......it's on the 18th tee box. Maybe a hot-line directly to the 19th is not a bad idea after a 5 hour round.

The course has lots of hard pan areas right now, so we played winter rules today. An odd mix of manicured sections of fairway, hard pan and wet mud from over watering. A family of Ducks were paddling through a small lake in a fairway bunker. Very surreal. Still a great course, but play lift, clean and replace - or some form of that rule right now.
