Played 9/16. 1 word: WINDY! The starter said to us at the beginning of the round that the Santa Ana winds were expected. He failed to mention that the winds were upgraded to hurricane strength! Our putts were breaking due to the wind. It was mind numbing putting the ball. Banana balls were evident everywhere. Very nice course...great surroundings...you will lose all words to describe what you see on the 14th tee...just amazing! But the wind just killed the whole day. Check the weather forecast before coming out unless you like playing in wind...not normal everyday wind...but wind so strong you can barely stand still sometimes. The canyons and mountains really get the wind whipping.

Played 8/27. The course conditions are not great. I would say the conditions reminded me of a muni course. Some greens were in very bad shape. The fairways were thinning out. It may because of the heat but you would expect more from a course of this stature. I would wait until the heat tapers down and they're able to bring back the greens and fairways to come out this far to play again.

Played 7/29. We were 2nd off so pace was amazing. This is my favorite local course so I've played here numerous times. Right now, the greens are not up to Goose Creek standards. There are hole punches in the greens and the fringes are horrible compared to how good it can be. Very surprising as the conditions here are normally excellent. May be due to the heat as suggested by the staff, but still. The greens were all running at different speeds and not consistant from hole-to-hole. I'll come back for sure but hope the conditions come back to normal.

Watch out! The previous 3 reviewers are giving great reviews for this course. Do NOT believe them -- they are probably workers for the course. In fact, check out there previous posts...you'll notice a trend for those 3 reviewers. I certainly don't believe Greenskeeper.org is a place for bogus reviews to draw in clients. This course is not up to shape and with the placement of these bogus reviews, I'm totally blackballing this course. I don't enjoy being deceived -- Greenskeeper.org has a better reputation than that. Put the effort to make your course better, not try and slip a fast one on paying customers.

Played on 7/8. The course is one of the most challenging courses I have ever played. There are sands traps literally everywhere. The hills on the course make you realize that if you have problems walking the local muni course, you would be much better off getting a cart here. Some of the fairways must have been 45 degree climbs. The greens require your every patience in reading the breaks and getting the speed of putts down just right. A few of the holes have views to die for with the Monterey Bay & Monterey Peninsula easy to distinguish. History alone dictates you should play this course whenever in the area.

Played 6/4. Like others have commented, the greens are very bumpy and not kept up despite what the cost of the round would suggest. From my untrained eye, it looks like there a couple different types of grass growing on the greens. Not all the greens roll consistently. That might be due to the extreme temperature (100+ degrees when we played). The use of doglegs and elevation make this course very challenging. I would play again but definitely not full price.

Played 5/21. Except for the greens, this is not a good course. The setup is awful. The tee boxes have divots all over the place. The fairways have numerous barespots and would sometimes qualify as 2nd cut on other courses. The fairways in the river bed?? Those are mostly wet and when not wet from the river, they're sandy with dirt everywhere. If it weren't for the greens, this place would be worthless. It says A LOT when you can literally walk on and tee off without a reservation on a Sunday morning...people are smart for not playing here.

Played on 5/14. This was a nice course. A few of the holes are straight shots from tee to green but the others have nice draw or fade requirements from the tee to set yourself up for 2nd shots -- challenging little course (6000+ from "championship" tees). The greens were just recently aerated (May 8-9) so the greens were VERY sandy and with the small aerating holes. Be prepared for that. Overall, a nice course to walk and play...especially after the greens come back.

Played on 5/6. First time playing this course after reading about it in Golf Digest. This is definitely a MUST play course. Everything about the course was excellent -- tee boxes, fairways, and especially the greens. The layout was nice with great use of dog legs. only problem we had was nothing at the turn...you just keep on playing so be sure to pack enough snacks -- or if you can, get the lunch buffet special with your tee time and you can pack a lunch to bring on the course. also, a very windy course -- the whole front 9 and a couple holes on the back had wind in our faces.

Played 4/30. The course is playing pretty good right now. The fairways have some spotting but overall really nice. The greens for the front nine definitely show aeration holes and sand. The back nine greens are in much better condition -- except for the 18th green. The 18th green is pretty bad condition when compared to the others...kind of a let down because it is the last impression you take away.

played 12/22 -- the course is in very good condition. the fairways were cut low and the greens were rolling great. it looked like a few of the tee boxes were bombed because they were in such bad shape. shame they haven't fixed this problem yet as it seems to be a recurring problem. the service as expected was spectacular -- from the time your greeted in the parking lot to when you turn in the cart.

played on 12/17 - started at 12:14 and finished at 4:35.

this is a very nice course. with the links layout, there was no need for yelling "fore." the placement of fairway bunkers definitely make you think hard about which club to hit off the tee. the ability to hit out of the fairway bunkers was excellent...in fact, i hit a 6 iron out of a fairway bunker and landed just short of the green which was 150 yards away...so the sand is nice obviously. the view from the tee box can deceive you into thinking the hole is actually longer than it appears...very good use rolling fairways and bunker placement. challenging course which requires good course management. greens were very nice and rolled very true.
