Played here on Saturday 8/10. Booked through Golfnow for $36 and figured, with all the recent good reviews, might as well give it a shot. Tee time was set for 11:24 and as we checked it, we were told we were playing by ourselves (2-some).

We were a bit early so we hit the range to find 1/2 grass and 1/2 mats. Now usually I go straight to the grass but my buddy and I walk over there and find that the "grass" range is more like long, uncut/unmowed grass. It was like practicing from the rough. So we actually chose to go to the mats, which were wet and left my clubhead dirty after each shot.

Anyways, we are told that there is a shortage of carts and that they would let us out as soon as the cart comes in. When we finally get to the first tee, the starter/pro shop guy runs over to us and adds a 3-some who also has to wait for carts. They finally get their cart literally as we are teeing off, (behind another 5-some I might add).

Anyways, I was pretty disappointed with the course overall. Maybe my expectations were pretty high but I wasn't expecting country club status. I was expecting typical LA city/county muni conditions but this place didn't even meet those expectations.

Most tee boxes were pretty chewed up and unlevel. Fairways were decent, some dry patches here and there. Like others have mentioned, there are many many bunkers being worked on so it's just plain dirt. Greens might have been the best but that's not saying much. They were very slow with a lot of little bumps and pitch marks.

It ended up being about a 5 hour round which isn't bad for a LA muni on a Saturday. Front 9 definitely felt a lot slower than the back.

Anyways, I will NOT be returning here unless there is some major improvement or perhaps once ALL the renovations are complete and GKers give the thumbs up, i MIGHT re-consider.

We walked in the pro shop at 11:55AM and went directly to the 1st tee. We finished in 3.5 hours. Maybe it was to warm for many? In any event, the course is in good condition. Work being done on the bunkers on the front nine. Appears that new cart paths will be put in soon, on the front 9, were needed. # 9 green is open and it is it still a Par 3. How or were they make this into a par 4 is beyond me. Tee boxes level and clean. Fairways mowed and in good condition and providing good lies. Sand traps have new sand on most of the front 9 but still being worked on. Greens on all holes in great shape and rolling very well, IMO. Back 9 has had numerous tree removal and appears that more is still to come. Enjoyable round of golf and have no reservations about not continuing to play here.

Went out today only to find out the greens have been aerated? Just there last week and not a word said about it? Made it through 13 and was so disgusted with the greens and how sandy they were, I decided to go home. I have nothing but respect for any course keeping the place in shape but have the courtesy of notifying us through Greenskeeper.org Los Amigos, should any of you read this posting. Oh and let's hope all the tree cutting is finished as well. Nothing like trying to hit a ball while a chain saw is running and the tree is coming down.

After reading the last 3 reviews we decided to go today. Thanks for the spot on reviews. We got to the course w/o a tee time at 12:45 and were on the tee at 1PM and finished in 3.5 hours. Having never played the course before we were relying on the past reviews and we were not disappointed. In fact we thought the course was even better in some respects (greens/fairways) than previously reported. All of the greens were cut and looking great and the fairways nice and lush. Nice mixture of holes in a well laid out fashion. While the pins were tucked for the most part on the knolls of most greens we were able for the most part to make par with on occasional birdie as well. We thoroughly enjoyed this course (easy to walk) and will look forward to playing it again for sure. If you have not played this course, than I highly suggest you do because you will really no doubt have a fun and relaxing round of golf. Course is conveniently located right off 710 and Imperial Hwy making it easy to get to.

After reading the recent positive reviews of Los Amigos I decided to give it a whirl after staying away for ten years or so. The ongoing improvements to the course and facilities were obvious even as I drove in. The course is very green, with lots of new landscaping near the parking lot and driving range. As for the course itself, the green fees are very reasonable (it is an L.A. County course), and it is short, flat and very walkable. The layout has some interesting holes. The par fives are reachable, the par fours are short to medium length, and the par threes require anything from a short iron to a three-wood. The greens are pretty lush, but weren't cut very short. They rolled pretty well at medium speed with few ball marks (except the ninth green, which was much slower). All in all, the changes the new owner has made and is making are going to once again make Los Amigos Golf Course a realistic option in the area.

After reading ringworld's (05/09/13) review of this course I gave it a try on Sunday morning, May 12. I've never been to Los Amigos before, so I can't say whether it's better or worse than in the past, but for $35 walking it was worth it. Sure, some of the tee boxes are kind of beaten up but it's a LA County course that probably gets a lot of rounds every week. The fairways are wide, so you can really let it rip off the tee if you want. If you go too far left or right, you'll contend with some big old trees but that's always the risk you take. I like the variety of Par 3s here, ranging from 120 to 243 yards (blue). It makes you think about club selection off the tee and challenges your accuracy. For the most part, the fairways are in good shape, there are some thin sports and tight lies here and there, but again, the variety of good and bad lies is part of the game. The bunkers were a mixed bag from dirt to fluffy sand. One of the best parts of the course are the greens. Though they weren't exceptionally fast they were all in nice condition, rolling smooth, and none seemed to pocked with unrepaired ball marks. I finished in less than 4 hours and that was following a fivesome - pace of play was good. I know I'll go back again but I'll keep an eye on the thermometer. It started to get kind of hot around mid-morning and this is only May!

Hat's off to the management and superintendent at Los Amigos. You guys have literally resuscitated life back into what I think is a great golf course. To say this course before was on the ropes is an understatement of the facts. To say that this course not only plays better but the conditions on this course rival other area golf courses is NOT an exaggeration but indeed, fact. Greens are perhaps the best rolling I have ever seen. A few bumps but the greens hold their line well. Even hole 9 which had it's green replaced matches the other greens for feel so no special treatment needed for just one green. Greens on hole 11 and 12 which the previous management butchered have returned back to life and roll very well. Fairways are fairly lush you do still get a mix of lies but overall I feel the fairways are well kept. Older trees line this golf course and the superintendent is making sure to prune these trees before the start of the serious golf season -- smart move on his part. Sand in bunkers are OK. They remind me of hard packed bunkers. Sand is loose but very playable. Rough is thick in places and around the greens. The green complexes overall I feel are perhaps in the best shape I have ever seen in the 15 years I have been playing here. Mind you I have laid off this course from my usual playing for over 3 years -- playing here once in a blue moon. I am happy to report the current course conditions are the best I have ever seen. Conditions do rival it's neighbor course down the street and pace of play is faster here -- during the week of course. Also I should mention they have been upgrading other parts of the facility (banquet, bar and diner). Most renovations are expected to be completed by July 2013. The big question is would I consider playing here again? The answer -- a resounding yes. For the money, the conditions and pace of play this would definitely be part of my list of considered golf courses to play. In fact now that I think of it, those of you reading this review forget what I just said. I want this course all to myself! But if you do decide to take the chance and play this course, I can honestly say you won't be disappointed.

Decided to play here again after reading recent reviews which indicated an improvement in course conditions. True - the course is better than in the past. Greens were reasonably smooth except for #9 (new green?) which was awful. Fairways were "hit or miss" some good some not so good. You can see they are making an effort, which is nice to see.

Fun little course with a number of interesting holes. Always enjoy playing here. ( Maybe because its an ego booster?)

I played here on Saturday in a tournament. I had not played here in many years, in fact it might as well have been the first time. This is a very short, 6156 from the tips, par 70 golf course. It has some severe dog legs and a couple of tight lines for tee shots. It is an L. A. County course so the condition is a B on good days out of an ABCDF rating. It was about a C+ Saturday. The greens were really slow. I played with some regulars and they were surprised about the slow speed. Some greens have severe undulations and if the greens were too fast you could spend the day trying to get the ball in hole.
Pace of Play was Saturday at a County Course that allows 5-somes or in other words 5 hours.
Despite the condition it was a fun track. You have to move the ball both ways and use a lot of different shots. It is also quite an ego booster.
