6:35 am tee time, but at 6:20 there was nobody on the tee, so the shop said it was OK to go. Good thing as we probably finished 5-6 holes ahead of the group we would have been behind, and we certainly did not play all that fast, just a tad under three hours. The greens were very bumpy ! In addition, they had the pins placed on such severe slopes that on a number of instances, the ball would run up to the cup, then roll back anywhere from a few feet & in two cases, off the green! Considering the greens were not fast, I can not imagine now unfair they would have played were the greens smooth/fast ? Fairways were decent as were the bunkers, in fact while not in any bunkers, they looked really good. I enjoy this short course, as I find it interesting and fun. Noticed they added about 30 yards to #13, which now measures 429. I hit a good drive and barely made it to the dogleg to have a clear shot to the green. Plus #17 is 223, which is not exactly short for us old guys. But for $16.50, what a bargin to play these county courses

Played here a couple of times in December. One on Sunday 12/17 with a tee time around 10:30 am and the other on Saturday 12/30 with tee time around 1 pm. Pace of play on 12/17 was around 5 hours and 15 minutes and POP on 12/30 was around 3 hours and 45 minutes (twilight start time).

Course is an LA county golf course. It's not a destination golf course. It's just an ok golf course to play for me. It was reasonable to play here. Water comes into play on 4 holes. First time playing hole #16, I lost two golf balls. You need to layup on your tee shot on hole 16 short of the water (toward the bridge) and then you need to carry the water on your approach shot to the green. What I didn't know was there is water to the right on hole 16 on your second shot. Did better on hole 16 the second time I played it (almost got a par).

Fairways had fairly good coverage but there were bare and thin spots here and there. Landed in a few bunkers. They have sand in their bunkers, which is nice compared to some courses that just have dirt. Greens were very nice. Parts of the course are next to housing. You need to be careful not to hit your shots into their backyards. Some of the holes have severe dog legs.

They have a driving range here and short game practice areas here. Course is pretty flat if you want to walk 18.

Played here on 12/24/2017 as a single. I am not a big fan of this course for a few reasons. The conditions are always just okay, the pace is usually slow, and the lay out is nothing to get pumped about. I give everything about 5 out of 10 with the exception of the greens which were pretty nice. They rolled well, held well, and were semi-fast. This is not a destination course but it is good place to work on your game from all different type of lies.

Spent the final day of the holiday weekend at Los Amigos on Sunday with two buddies playing from the blue tees and walking. We had a 10:20 tee time and got off without a hitch, however the two guys playing in front of us managed to make what should have been a fast round into a five-hour ordeal. They just chatted all round, took their sweet time catching up to the group in front of them, played two balls on numerous occasions, etc. It was quite exasperating to say the least.

For some reason Los Amigos also has a dire shortage of good push carts, as the one I rented did not have a front wheel (which I was duly warned about), so I had to keep it jacked up all day in order for it to work properly. No big deal, however not a single cart girl in sight all day was a shame. It wasn't exactly hot like summer time, but it was a fairly busy Sunday and they should have that covered for sure.

As for the course conditions, Los Amigos always has some of the best sand around. You'll always get the fluffy stuff here so kudos to them for that. The greens were also in pretty good shape all around, rolling nicely and medium speed. Definitely too many ball marks around the greens but for the most part no complaints there.

Fairways and rough are in less than optimal shape. There were some major areas on a few of the fairways that were roped off (assumed GUR from afar), but when we got there, they were in better shape than the thin fairways around them. Many a burned out or thin lie that made wedge shots extremely difficult today. However the rough around the greens was grabby but consistent enough. Tee boxes were also a bit of an uneven mess, and the one on the par 3 7th was a total disaster. Definitely need to do some work there.

Overall, a little bit subpar from Los Amigos today, but I expect them to be better in the future as they usually are. It's a fun little track that definitely should help the confidence in your game, however the front nine is significantly easier than the back nine (and especially the last three holes), which goes completely against the logic of how my scoring went. But this will always remain a regular course in my rotation.

Teed off Friday morning about 7am and finished in 4 hours. The Greens are rolling medium speed, are a bit on the bumpy side, and held shots. The fairways were fair to good. There were thin spots throughout but playable. The 15th fairway has some issues with a large area marked ground under repair. The rough was fair to good with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers are in good condition (at least the 2 I was in). The tee boxes were fair to good mostly due to mild unlevelness. For a shorter track it is enjoyable to play. The staff was friendly.

Played today just after noon and POP was horrendous. Walked off after 12 holes. They are running 2 specials presently (one from GK and one of their own) and it is bringing out the cheap and worst golfers in the area (IMO). When you get stacked up on the 3rd hole (3 groups waiting while group on green putts out) and again on the 7th hole (same 3 groups same on green) because no one bothers to read the sign regarding calling payers up when reaching the green, you know things are out of hand? And the short 9th hole is another waiting room. Not to mention the numerous golfers who play the wrong tee boxes, or wait for the fairway to clear from the tee box, when they cannot hit it 100 yards? With no marshal, it is nothing short of chaos. Suffice to say, should I ever go back, it will be in the early AM. Conditions also did not appeal to me? Fairways are thin, brown and hard. Tee boxes are beat up. Bunkers were good (hooray) and greens were in decent shape, though very slow. So I guess 2 out of 4 is supposed to be acceptable? I will say the customer service was excellent, except for the lack of marshal? Play at your own peril, when booking a Noon tee time?

I played this course back on Sept 10. I gave this course one of the worst reviews in 2016. I was pretty determined never to play this course again because the greens were so bumpy and slow. However, during the summer, while playing at Meadowlark, I remarked to a playing partner that Meadowlark had improved considerably since a couple of years ago. Surprisingly, he said that I should try Los Amigos because it was even better there. Lo and behold, he was right! The fairways and bunkers that were always a strong suit remained so, but the greens had gotten much better. Sure they were a little bumpy, but the green speed was adequate and the pace of play was fine. And the staff was again helpful and friendly. I was never a huge fan of the course layout (the doglegs are so short on the back 9 that I only get to use my driver once), but this course is a terrific deal under the improved conditions. My dad also likes it because it isn't too long and he feels he can shoot his age here! I will be back!

Played today Tues 10/3 8:37 tee time, got out on time. $30 to walk. Agree with everything that grantar2, Mission Viejo wrote. My one exception is that the rough had been cut even with the fairway length. The type of grass still had a tendency to allow the ball to sink down and hide which at times made for a difficult shot.

The customer service has always been great, counter, and coffee shop. If you get breakfast I recommend the breakfast sandwich, or burrito. Both are a great value. When you stop at the 9th hole tell them you want the "Cantinero Special" or The Bartender special. He adds in a plate of nachos (not free but a good buy) - refried beans, crispy chips, and jalapeno slices.

Los Amigos Golf Course Played Los Amigos with my friend using the GK discount coupon, [12-2pm Monday through Friday] for $27, round, cart and lunch. Check in was easy, but not as expected. I arrived about 45 minutes before our 12:20 tee time so that I could hit the range and warm up. On check in rather than charging us $27 per person, they charged us $22 per person, gave each of us a sleeve of Noodle Long & Soft balls, and the cart key. They told us to ask for the $5 special at the snack bar. Range balls were $5 for a small bucket. I had made my tee time reservation online at the course website, Sunday night at 9pm for a Monday match at 12:20am. Despite the online price showing $30 waking they gave me no hassle when we showed up with our GK coupon. As for lunch we were told just to ask for the $5 hot dog and soda special which we did at the turn, fast service, good dog, and Dr. Pepper. We were sent out to the tee, and paired with a wonderful retired couple who were walking. As we waited on the tee it looked like it was going to be a very long round. There was a foursome of walkers on the green, a foursome of walkers around 200 yards out waiting for the group on the green, and another foursome that had just tee’d off on the tee #2. There was another foursome forming just behind us as we waited to tee off. Surprisingly by the time we hit the third hole, we were spreading out nicely, and by the time we hit the sixth hole we were moving along like a well-oiled machine. The group in front of us was gone, and the group behind us was a hole behind. We completed the round in exactly four and half hours, on beautiful 73 degree day with a light breeze. With perhaps one exception the tee boxes were in very good condition despite the volume of players. There was divot damage, but a clean lie, or tee spot was easily found. Driver is used on so many holes that the tee’s don’t see much in the way of damage. Most tee’s were level, and lush, with a touch of brown. Fairways were uniformly in good condition, good coverage no bare spots, a hit of brown in some spots but with good coverage. Roll out was generous. Most fairways are large, however poor shots placement is penalized by tall mature trees. You have to know which side of the fairway to play on many holes to make par. Rough on this course is very penal. The rough is spidery, sticky, often among tall trees, with low hanging branches. I had more trouble hitting out of the fairway rough on this course than any I can remember recently. Warning the rough can hide roots that are further away from the tree than one might expect. I am going to be nursing a sore wrist for a couple of days. The rough along the fairways is often four or more inches tall, similarly the second cut around the greens are very deep. On the 18th hole my playing partners saw my ball land in line with the pin at the back of the green and roll through. With all four of us looking we could not find it. My partner had almost the same thing happen on 16 with a shot just 10 yards off the green to the right of the fairway. After taking a drop and walking back to the cart we just saw the ball below the grass in a fried egg lie that we had missed even with all four of us looking. He played his ball, but the deep lie made for a tough shot, and poor result. Bunkers are in excellent shape, albeit some groups before us did better jobs of raking than others. Greenside bunkers tend to be deep with steep faces. Sand is medium heavy, with good depth. Well in excellent conditions these are not friendly bunkers, and layups are likely better than challenging the bunkers. Greens were in overall good condition playing fast but fair. Some greens are terraced, and some slope back to front or right to left. The roll on a number of holes was bumpy, but straight. The greens are very (rock) firm, leaving indentations more than pitch marks, and were very difficult to stop or back spin the ball unless it dropped straight down. The coverage on the greens is excellent, with very few damage areas, none affecting play. The course is largely flat, trees, bunkers, doglegs, are the key defenses, until the back nine where water adds to the pucker factor. Perhaps the hardest is 16 which is a dogleg left, that has a twenty yard lading area just short of the cart bridge. Land it short of this area and trees block the approach, of about 150 yards. Go long and you’re in the water the bridge crosses, a very tough par four. Seventeen plays long over water into the wind and severely sloped green, 182 yards from the whites. Service in the pro shop and snack bar were fast and friendly. We did not see a refreshment cart on the course at all, did not see an ambassador or marshal. Relief stations were strategically placed. There is construction on a new starter stand and what looks like an outdoor grill going on. The driving range is very nice, the fencing has been repaired since the last time I was here. The range boarders the 18th hole which made locating my yellow golf ball a pain well playing the 18th as that is the color used for range balls. One of the nice features are a USC, and UCLA shield about 100 yards out that you can hit to. At the rack rate of $30 walking and $40 with cart I find this course a good value. For $27 dollars with cart on the GK coupon it’s a great deal. Given they threw in a sleeve of balls, all the better. I hope to get back and play the course again before the coupon expires at the end of the month.
