Heads up - Los Serranos South was aerated, probably 7-10 days ago.

I was shocked upon looking at my spreadsheet to see that I haven't been out here in almost 10 years, as I liked both of these courses. Just a little far to get here. The 5am drive from San Clemente to LS was easy, but coming back from LS to Irvine at 9:30 am took me 90+ minutes.

Outside of the aerated greens, LS South is in good shape. Fairways are plush and not too tight. Rough is hit and miss. Tee boxes were nice. I was not aware of the green aeration, so that was disappointing. They are still bumpy, but not so bad as to make me regret coming here. I am sure in 2-3 weeks they will be nice.

I still enjoy these courses. Even though I've played the south a half a dozen times, I still get surprised by the par 74 and the sheer length of this course. Bombs away - there's lots of room to miss, but you'll get some tree trouble coming back.

8:30 tee time this morning at LS South. Course was very busy. Check in was quick and first tee was on time and organized. Tees, fairways and rough had good coverage. Traps had inconsistent conditions, some had small rocks, others had a thin layer of sand and bladed my share of shots and some were in good condition. They have not started to aerate the greens yet. Greens were firm, held well struck shots and were smooth with medium speed. POP was at 4.5 hours. Weather was in the mid 70's with little to no wind. Can't beat the senior rate best deal around.

Played Fri mar 9th at 715, breakfast at 6 was great the women know us now, lol check in fast, we played the south again because the north greens were punched, they will do the south shortly, ask when booking, conditions good, fairways short and ran, was in 4 bunkers and good sand in each, greens receptive and fixed more ball marks than normal, well after putting last week at hidden valley where part of the greens were sandy and part not, this really messed with my speed, I rimmed 5 putts and didn't have a good day putting, they know us in the restaurant also as the women are so nice, since both the course are being punched, probably play elsewhere in 2 weeks

Played Fri Feb 23rd at 730, check in fast and friendly, got out on time, POP was 355 very cold, no one in front of us until we caught up to a 4 some on 5, fairways were winter grass, very short hard and they ran, was in 4 bunkers, 3 good sand 1 not so much, greens were receptive, always had a ball mark to fix, they rolled real nice and were on the fast side on down hill putts. I putted terrible on the front which led to a 49 but adjust on the back for a 41, funny how things turn around on the same round, well that is golf, we had 2 groups and had lunch, fish taco special is great...

Played Fri Feb 9th at 730. Good breakfast and they open at 6, not like Sierra lakes that opened at 8am for breakfast I mean really. .... check in fast, got out on time, but the course was very busy and they were doing tree maintenance which blocked access to south tee box, had to push thru north side to get to the south tee box. POP was not good at 440, we were a 4 some following 2 3 somes and waited every hole. Got done with hole 6 up at the snack bar and talked to the marshall and service girl, marshall said at that time they were on a 4 hour pace, service girl said she sold them 2 six packs, we laughed and said don't sell beer to slow players lol. Course was in good shape, tee boxes level but real hard, I use plastic tees and even broke one of those, fairways good and good sand in bunkers, greens were good but I was fixing allot of ball marks. I was using a new putter and just had problems adjusting to speed, well back to the old one, lol

The course is in good shape for winter. If you can call 78 degrees winter conditions. The fairways were very green with only a few thin yellowed spots. Tee boxes were pretty much level and lush with a few exceptions. Traps were almost all filled with nice dry sand. The rough was very playable and the wood chips are what they are. Greens were very nice and mostly rolled well without too much bounce and speed was consistent . THE ONLY THING IS A ROUND OF GOLF SHOULD NOT TAKE 5 1/2 HOURS TO PLAY!!!!!!

Played Fri Jan 12th at 7:23 check in fast and friendly. Breakfast service great as usual. Got out on time, course was very wet, told 90 degree rule by starter, but fairways were drying out by the sun and seemed ok. One or two tee boxes actually need leveling as they were crowned, fairways wet not much roll out and winter grass, yellowish but always had a decent lie, was not in any traps, greens were real nice, receptive and rolled nice. I fixed many ball marks. POP was ok at 4:07. We still like this place as north and south are really different courses and you can't beet the price.

Played with group outing on 1-7. This course is just not up to par anymore. I know its the winter and turf is dormant but when you hit a drive down the middle of the fairway and your ball ends up sitting on hardpan dirt or in a overgrown hole it turns a fun day into a why didnt I stay home and work around the house. Tee boxes were of with some crowns and divot damage, fairways I just described above. Rough is either thin grass or hardpan caked dirt. Greens look nice but are very bumpy, not what Los Serranos used to be. The only good was the bunkers, raked and full of light sand made playing out of them a better reward than being in the fairway. Hey just sell it and build houses on top of this cow pasture

Played los Serrano’s this afternoon. Played off the Jacks Blacks which is always fun. Really enjoy the layout on the south course. Fairways are okay, same as usual out here some patchy spots but not bad. Greens are rolling medium fast with a few bobbles late in the afternoon but pretty nice. Rough is hit and miss pretty thin. Bunkers either had good heavy sand in them or really light dusty sand. Pace of play was good, great day out there. Always a good value round.
