Everyone keeps saying it so I'll just add to the pile. The course is currently not worth the rack rate, or half that... maybe a quarter of it. The rough is jacked, and some of the tee boxes still are fuzzy from the overseeding. Other than that the fairway was very good and the greens were also wonderful. Overall I enjoyed the day since I got an UnderPar voucher and played 2 rounds for $75 a round. At that price, given the level of service, I'd say it was worth it. Never would I pay or recommend paying the full price unless this course is in impeccable shape. The service was top notch. Great attention to detail from all the staff. I might not play again unless I can get a good deal but the staff made my visit a memorable one.

The previous reviews for this course werespot on. Its a great layout, but for the conditions of the course to be as poor as they were for a $200+ green fee, its definitely not worth it. Their tee boxes were more rough like than their rough. In fact, the grass for most of the tee boxes were so long that even when you tee'd up your ball, the ball was only about a quarter of an inch above the grass; it felt like I was hitting some drives fat even though I wasn't hitting the ground. The rough was terrible. It was bare spots checkered with clumps of grass or dirt. I would definitely stay away until the conditions of the course greatly improve. Right now, I wouldn't pay $50 for this course.

Played Wednesday 9/10 in the morning. Frankly, I'd stay away from Aviara right now, as the conditioning is the worst I've ever seen here. At the rates they charge, it is not in the shape it needs to be for the premium golf segment.

Tee boxes are in maintenance, so I won't ding them on that. The fairways are generally good, with occasional bare patches but they are pretty good overall. Sand traps are good. Where Aviara is suffering right now is the rough and the greens.

The rough is simply terrible. Major bare patches that are overwatered as the groundskeepers try and recover. If you miss the green, you're either hitting off mud or out of random tufts of deep, inconsistent grass. The greens are also struggling, with numerous bare patches and strips of repaired turf. If Aviara was offering a 50% off deal it might be OK, but at their high prices it is very disappointing. There are many area courses that are in much better shape at a quarter of the price. I had hoped that they would have improved on these problems since my July review, but it has gotten worse.

Played here 8/16 and 8/17, 8 am shotguns. My second time out here, and this is my favorite public course in the state. I've said before, I've never been to Augusta National, but this seems like what Augusta is like. Rolling layout with elevation change, colors everywhere, huge tough greens, deep bunkers... 18 very interesting holes, not a bad one in the bunch... playable and challenging.

As for the course, it's in pretty good shape. Some areas of thinning or brown, which you have to chalk up to the drought conditions. Greens rolled true, about a 10+ on the stimp. Some spots of disrepair... don't know why people refuse to fill divots.... argh!

but I love this course, and would relish any chance to play. The rack rate is steep, but in golf terms, worth it. and a much more interesting course than it's closest comparable: pelican hill. (Pelican does have the ocean, but I enjoy this layout so much better) A great 2 days of golf.

Played Monday 5/21 morning. Service here is always impeccable, and the layout is fun, fair, and challenging. POP was good at just over 4 hours.

Condition was sort of spotty. Tee boxes were great and fairways were pretty good, but had numerous bare patches. The rough was getting poor in many places, with a lot of bare patches. The greens were medium speed, and showed a surprising number of pitch marks and a bit of bumpiness, plus occasional bare areas. Bunkers were very good.

The conditioning issues wouldn't be too annoying at most public courses, but they were surprising for Aviara. A couple months ago the course was in fantastic shape, so it is surprising so many issues showed up so fast. For such a high $$$ place it was fairly disappointing.

Fairways, bunkers and putting greens in GREAT shape. There was one green, I believe it was #5 had been recently punched...the rest were just amazing examples of properly maintained poa annua. This is probably as much due to the lack of traffic as it is the $$$ spent and talent of the greenskeeper. This is by far the most visually stunning golf course in Southern California. Great design, fun layout, we had a great time. Well worth the Golfnow Hot Now deal we used. If you want to go above and beyond and see what can be done with a lot of landscaping, attention and $$$, go play this place--- you will not be disappointed.

T's- Perfect. Level & lush with only minor divots on the Par 3's. Great views of the holes from the T boxes, but first time around it's difficult to really see where you need to hit or more importantly where not to.
Fairways- Near perfection with good roll. Mostly lush with an occasional less then lush area. Some of those areas had been punched, but caused no issues. Most of the fairways have multiple undulations.
Greens- Fantastic. Held shots well and rolled true at med. fast pace. Many undulations and breaks, but didn't notice anything out of the ordinary.
Traps looked fine and the one I was in was great.
Service was friendly & fantastic. Cart girl came by multiple times.
There were many singles and two- somes out. With numerous people playing the tips that really had no business doing so. It's their money, but I do think it slowed play down??

I really enjoyed playing this course. Fun, challenging, beautiful scenery and in very good to perfect condition. Green fees not as much, but I've wanted to play it for a while now. Saw I had an afternoon opening from a very busy month and decided to treat my self. Glad I did. More then I would want to pay on a regular basis, but over all one of the best courses in San Diego. With the exception of having no Ocean view and no legacy, it's my opinion that it is better then Torrey across the board. And cheaper if your not a local.

9:42 tee time on 4/12. First time playing here and wow..what a track. Very friendly and helpfully staff to get you settled in. Above average driving range and a good practice green you want to spend some time on.
Tees boxes were some of the best I have played on...level and in terrific shape. Fairways were awesome, some had spots that were a little tight, but other than that...first rate. Rough is about 2 inches longer than it will be in another month. Not overly penalizing, but not a walk in the park to get your best shot out of.
The greens were huge.....and smooth...hardly and I repaired ball mark to be seen all day. A definite premium on approach shots and chipping. We had a most enjoyable round here and took some pictures. Highly suggest playing here if you can get a good deal....$150 pp would be my value limit for this place on the weekend.

Fairways, good to very good. Some a little thin. Starter indicated overseeded for first time in 22 years. They looked good, but were not as lush as they appear from tee. Rated 7/10.

Greens. Super fast and firm right now. Starter indicated 11.5 to 12 on stimp. They were at least that fast. Very firm, to not even leave much of a ball mark to repair on a high wedge shot from 100 yards. A couple of ridiculous pin placements on this day. With greens this fast, better consideration required for pins. More break in these greens than what they appear and most greens are very large with subtle undulation. Rated 8/10.

Bunkers were good. One greenside was soaked and like packed oatmeal, others were excellent. One fairway bunker I found was thin and sticky. Rated 7/10

Customer service was excellent, inside and out. Starter provides lots of instructions before rolling out to first tee.

Very visually pleasing course. Good variety of holes. Expensive resort course...beware. Would like to play more often, but need to avoid prime time weekend at $245.

Highly recommend, with the right deal.
