5/18 for a guru outing on a warm ideal sc spring day. POP a leisurely 420 with only alittle waiting on 10 and 11 and the occasional search for wayward shots. Nice grass driving range and a large practice green the speed of which was some what faster than nt on the course. Fairways overall have good cover--closely mowed but with good cushion. Yes there are some thin spots and random random bare areas which did not come into play but did detract from the aesthetics. Rough is cut down to about an inch and is very thick close to the fairway perimeter and around the greens slowing the ball but not having much effect on shot execution. Beyond the primary rough is real trouble with some large rocks dirt/sandy areas or wild thick grasses and weeds(where we did spend some time on the search trying to locate that darn scattered shot while collecting plenty of nasty foxtails and stickers) Only snake we saw was a gopher beside the 4th green. Tees are level with good cover overall. Bunkers provide mixed conditions some are groomed and raked, some were wet and hard packed and some had newer sand that is groomed but heavy requiring extra attention to planing the shot before attempting to execute. Greens overall were pretty smooth but I felt that the speed was somewhat inconsistent as a few of the greens were predominantly poaanna. Speed was between medium and medium fast--not a lot of undulation or tiers but the breaks were subtle enough to make my life on the green a puzzlement--mostly came close with a lot of lippers. Staff members are very friendly and golfer oriented. Though the location is rather remote it is well worth the drive--very scenic with the lakes full, the greenery and clear blue skies and you get a quality golf course to boot. Rates appear to be very fair for the experience provided. Time for a destination road trip!! I think the rating came out a little lowwould pick more like 7.1/7.2

Played as part of the GK Guru outing on Thursday 5/18. Was blessed with great weather on this day and had a great time playing with zgolfinman, gary00, jmo1pro2. Never even knew this course was here and was really thrilled about paying. Customer service was great. Was greeted with a warm welcome from the gentleman in the club house (wish I got his name). The starter was also great giving us an overview of the course. And yes, same goes for the young ladies in the restaurant. All class acts. No one in front of us which was nice and POP was about 4:10. We spent some time looking for balls (mainly mine) but we were never held up. Played the blues at about 6,300 yards and although not real long, it still was challenging. Front 9 was different from the back however. The front was pretty traditional with some dog legs, some straight away holes and generous fairways. Back 9 was more mature, scenic with tree lined, tighter fairways and some elevation. In the fairway though you got a real nice lie. The rough was not real thick and was not a factor. Was only in one bunker but it was very damp and hard. Greens were rolling nicely. There were smooth and held the line. As the day progressed however, the poa anna was slowing up a bit. Some of the greens had some undulations which made it tricky. I thoroughly enjoyed this course. It took me about an hour and a half to get here today but was worth the trip. Wish it were closer. Very nice layout and would love to play it again soon. Huge, grass driving range which was nice. Make it a point to play here if you get the chance.

Played Sat 2/11 with the men's club tournament. It was 53° and raining. Course is looking better and better every time i go by. The rain is helping out a lot and everything is green and the ground is soft which is a lot better then the hard pan that I have seen there before. All lakes are back to full and the greens are perfect right now.

The are working on a new Gray water pump for the course so It looks like things will continue to go up from here.

By the Way it was NOT CTP as the ground was not muddy. so enjoy while you can.

Played in the Mens club tournament this weekend and the conditions were very soggy. The good news is the two lakes that were empty a month ago are now back to full including the one on hole 6 the lake has been empty for at least 2 years is now full to the brim and is visually pleasing.

The tees are back to good condition but unfortunately they were very mushy and the play might affect the condition after 2 days of play.

Fairways had good coverage and have softened up which is nice as the last time I played they were hard-panned. Holes nine and 18 were a little soggy from all the rain and even with the cart path only were taking some damage.

Greens were very soft and slow with many ball marks not being replaced and hole 18 had a second hole location that was not filled from a putting competition the previous day.

In all a fun course and I will continue to play I just hope they dont let the course dry out again like last year.

Played here on 11/25 and as would be expected, course was insanely packed with people avoiding the Black Friday madness. First time playing here and I was pleasantly surprised with the course. Not all that impressive when you drive up and to be honest the front 9 left a few things to be desired, but the back 9 was an entirely different beast. The front 9 feels a lot like Steel Canyon and the back 9 more like Cross Creek; what a contrast. On to the review:

Tee-boxes: Perhaps the weakest feature of the course. Most were torn up and uneven, and frankly a little small on the area where you could tee up. What is worst is that we had a 10:30 tee time, so it's not like a twilight tee-time where you expect to follow in everyone else's footsteps. Moreover, a lot of these holes require careful tee shots, so having level areas to tee off from is vital.

Fairways: Mixed conditions throughout the day, the only constant being that no fairway was very green color-wise. For the most part though, shots rolled well (too well in a few cases) since we played before this last rain and the ground was hard and grass dry. Visually not that pleasing, but played well.

Rough: The rough on the front 9 was far less penal than the back 9, however I believe this is due to the topography of the course. With that said, some of the rough here on the course was downright nasty, especially closer to water on the holes where it is featured. The rough on the back 9 was thick and there are lots of ESA's everywhere.

Sand: Thankfully I missed the sand today, however it looked pretty good from what I could see. An occasional bunker was more dirt style than fluffy white but I heard no complaints from my playing partners.

Greens: The highlight of the round. The greens were actually green and they hold shots very well because they were soft. In terms of putting, they rolled well and though a few greens had areas with damage, 90% of those greens had the flag placed away from said areas. A treat to play on.

ETC: Carts had no GPS and course markers (150/100) were faded and often times to the point you couldn't tell what was what. Carts were lacking today in quantity as we took the second to last cart available, luckily they are equipped with coolers, ice, ball wash, and club wash. Staff was very friendly and welcoming. Food was reasonably priced and clubhouse ample with televisions. Starter was friendly and worked diligently to make sure people got out on time. Round was just over 5 hours but between Black Friday crowds and the 10th hole being CPO, the round here is designed to be slow. Recommended if you can score a deal.

Decided to go out and play here on 10-22 with my father. We had a 750 am tee time at $65 which is rack rate there were not too many deals out for yesterday so we figured why not. Staff here is always super friendly and very accommodating. Pop was right at 4 hours 15 min which is good for this course. As for the conditions I have seen better for this course. The certainly have an issue with the sprinklers not reaching certain areas. The fairways were either soaking wet or bone dry which made it hard to figure out what kind of swing to take off the fairways. I had a few shots that I could not get under the ball on the fairway due to the fact it was rock hard. Every sprinkler head had a puddle around them which is very strange as they did not water in the morning. Tee's- we played from the blue white combos and it seemed every white tee was not in good shape. Almost like they had not moved them for a week. It made for some strange choices to put a tee in the ground. Rough- for what rought there is it was a mixed bag of really thick grass and hard dirt. You can tell they do not focus on watering the rough at all. Sand- The top coat was wet from the morning dew and below on 90 percent of the bunkers was very nice white sand. I only landed in 2 bunkers all day and they were fine but my father found a bunch of them. Greens- They were very soft and held a lot of shots. Only complaint is maybe too soft as footprints from the groups in front were still not fully recovered between groups. In all its a fun course but I think they are finally feeling the water restrictions as two of the 4 lakes are now empty and the course is not in the greatest of shapes any more. I will have to wait for a few good reviews before heading back

9/26 using underpar $59 2some on a warm but not as hot as we expected day with little to no wind. 1st off-- shout out to Shawn from pro shop. I had called to schedule for last Monday but after booking the tee time he called back about 10 minutes later to let me know that they would be needle punching the greens that Mobnday and Tuesday--which gave us the chance to reschedule for today.
Front 9 greens are almost completely recovered but were more on the slower side than usual. Back 9 still had some evidence of being punched and were also slow and more bumpy at times. Greens were soft held well and with the exception of #14--which has been a problem with some bare spots on the fringes and slow to heal ball marks and maybe some fungus issues--were in good shape.
Fairways have good cover--had good lies all day--are soft so filling divots is a must. Limited rough about 1 inch and for today was cut down to the same length around the greens--deeper patches around or between green side bunkers.
Bunkers had firm fine sand quite playable and were generally groomed and raked.
Tees level with good cover even the par 3s.
POP 3 3/4 after jumping a 4some and 5some on 10 which we came back and finished at the end.
Course has adequate water resources and is well maintained. Generous fairways with enough rough potentially available to provide more challenge. Par 3s are all different and with the exception of 9 and 18 no holes look similar. Big greens can be 30-40 yards from front to back and depending on pin placement can accentuate the contours or can be tucked behind bunkers.
All and all enjoy playing here makes the 60 minute drive well worth while.

8/1 from the blues 6315 70.5/127 using under par $59 2some on a warmish morning--wide open teed off 30 min early at 825 with no waiting--easy 3 1/2 POP with some time spent looking for wayward shots--like on 2 par five hit wide right ending up in bunker near 7th green pitched out down 7th fairway then hit back to #2 fairway 100 yards out--made 10 footer for my bogey smiling on to #3.
This course has adequate water to keep conditions above average-- fairways are generally green with good cover and cushion--not a lot of rough but could be if allowed to grow out. More abundant around the greens.
tees are level mostly lush. Bunkers for the most part had good quality sand and evidence of routine grooming and considerate golfers that understand the purpose of the rakes.
Greens rolled medium fast and true near the hole. All the greens were needle punched in a 6 fool swath around the perimeter--minor inconvenience--as the majority of the green surface was unaffected.
Check in quick and smooth--take cart 18-- go when ready-- friendly and easy going attitude. Adequate water stations and ice in the on board coolers--no cart service today.
Nice layout and good conditions made the hour drive worthwhile. Playing like we had the whole course to ourselves didnt hurt either.

Great friendly staff here as always - they seem as if they all enjoy their jobs! The tee boxes were in pretty good shape with a few slightly sloped and/or thin. The fairways were thin in a few spots throughout the course - but for the most part they all had good coverage. The traps were good but some where a little damp from overnight watering. The greens were in really good shape and pretty consistent on all holes - many pin placements were on the spines making two putts difficult. The round was good at a four hour pace and rates and reasonable for the level of the conditions. Great scenery during the round with a few forced carries and several water hazards. I find the drive worth it to this out of the way place!
