First time plying this course. I agree with the previous review about the conditions of the course However greenside bunkers did not have sand but was hard compacted dirt. I agree with some of the quirkiness regarding some of the holes. Some holes were like playing a miniature golf course.

For example Hole #7 a par 3 with a bunker in the middle of the green, depending of pin placement there is no straight putt to the flag if you land on the opposite end. Hole #9 with no shot to the green unless you land in the middle of the fairway. Landing on the left or the right of fairway and second shot you had to carry over some towering trees which really need to be trimmed down. The back 9 was a lot better.

Green fees are reasonable and staff was welcoming and great. Caution I did see a snake in the waste area just beyond the first tee, so be careful about wandering oof into the OB area.

Played on Saturday, 8/17, at 7:20 with itslikeimsayin for about $53 each after a discount code he used. Price was more than fair considering the going rates for golf these days.

Conditions were good for dog days of summer. Fairways were tight with some brown areas, but still soft and not wrist breaking hard. Rough was about 1-2 inches. i was in 1 fairway bunker, which was fine and easy to hit from, no green side for me. Greens were soft, medium fast, and pretty smooth.

This may be the quirkiest course I've ever played, and I say that with lots of love. It was a ton of fun, but you definitely need a tour guide (thanks Mark!) to get you through your first round. Dog legs, blind shots, and the 9th green where you have to shoot a gap (or go over) to get to the green.

I would pay 50ish all day for this course. Pretty fun and with some knowledge, maybe a place to get some scores. Not a destination but well worth it.

Played out here this morning at 7:20 with rob1563. We got a TeeOff.com "Deal" time that made it about $53 pp after promo code, which is a good deal for a prime morning time here. Glad we played early with the heat wave. Paired with a friendly twosome (they said they've considered playing in GK events before so we encouraged them to do so) and started right on time. Pretty much waited on every shot all day, but pace was decent, finishing in just under 4.5 hrs.

Conditions are very playable, if not the the most attractive I've seen this course. The first green scared me a little bit with lots of imperfections, but the rest seemed fine. Greens were soft, accepted full shots really well and rolled medium to medium fast. Mostly smooth although I wouldn't call them pure. Fairways have good coverage that is a mix of light green and yellow bermuda (I assume). Not exactly lush but sufficient cushion under the ball. I didn't notice any really penal rough, mostly pretty short. Tee boxes were decent. I was in one bunker and it was quite good... a little crusty on top and sufficient sand underneath.

Fun morning! Recommend the course if you get a decent rate.

Wanted to play here for awhile and finally decided to drive the hour + to play. Paid about $65 for late morning tee time and paid $20 for an extra cart. Golf courses are hurting so the extra fee wasn't an issue, just wanted to be safe. Service was excellent. Noticed a few signs warning people about using abusive language and behavior, which I thought was odd. On hole 7 tee box, I realized why. Unbeknownst to us, we caught the group ahead and stopped our carts right as they were teeing off. They complained we were talking in their backswings (we apologized) and playing right up on them (the group behind us was hitting into us so we tried to keep pace). They continued taunting/cursing at us even though we kept quiet. One of them was wearing a red political hat and they all looked pretty rough so we decided to let them vent and gave them a wide birth but it was alarming given the small inconvenience they may have experienced. Someone had called the marshal (not us) and we explained what happened, he seemed frustrated/apologetic and said he'd talk to them. Luckily we never had any trouble the rest of the way but the father-son we were paired up with were kind of spooked. Could have been worse if we hadn't kept our heads. The fairways and rough were thin and there were plenty of barren spots (chalk it up to reduced maintenance crews/summer heat). The greens were in good condition and rolled nice. Just a shame we were stuck behind the Patrick Reed fan club.

Teed off at 7:35 finishing in 3:40. It has been two years since I played the course and the conditions have vastly improved. The greens rolled fairly smooth with medium/fast speed and held shots. The fairways had very good coverage. The rough around the green complexes is in excellent shape. The rough along the fairways is cut low with some thin/bare spots. The bunkers are good. The tee boxes were in good shape.

There is no GPS in the carts so first timers might find it helpful to have a yardage book. The staff was very friendly.

Mostly great coverage with good to great lies. Greens were in very good to great shape. Held shots. Running at medium quick with good rolls. Check in was easy. Easy Recommend.

Still one of my favorite tracks in the area. Highly recommended with the following warning.

Weber is correct, that fence on #12 is awful. After reading his review, I expected a fence brought in from the farm boundary. However, that fence runs right down the middle of the tee boxes, which effectively means you have 1/4 tee box remaining. The fence cuts off a good 20 yards from the left boundary. Yes, those 20 yards are in the trees, but with the left to right fairway slope to the lake. that means you have a safe landing area of 1/4 of the left edge of the fairway. 10-15 yard left - OB. 10-15 yards right - pond. And it is a 200+ plus yard carry from the tee to the safe landing area. It used to be a miss left rattles in the trees, then drops down the slope into the fairway leaving a long approach. That option is gone now. It requires a 225 yard shot more accurate than a par 3. It is just a bad hole now, I'd vote for turning it into a short par 3 rather than a bad par 4.

I inquired about the reason - apparently Bonsall ISD has that area marked for a new high school, but has lost the finance vote over several elections. So they have fenced off their land. Must have been a surveyor issue as it does take a hunk of #12 away.

Course is in nice shape, greens rolled well, but were a bit too slow for my taste. Fairways provided plenty of coverage. Rough & tee boxes OK. The bunkers were the worst part of the course, and had nothing to do with no rakes. Kind of a hard pan type clay.

They have placed a wire fence along side hole #12 on the left side, which gives this already rather tight hole and much more challenging tee shot. No idea why this was done? Otherwise had a great quick morning round under beautiful weather. Too bad my game was not up to the same standard.

Out with Sr714 for our GK match at 10:40 on leap day. Steve had a ClickitGolf voucher for a $70 twosome. A steal of a deal. As for the course, everything average to above average. Fairways were probably as lush as I've seen them out here which means instead of the normal 40 yards of roll you only get 20. You still have to be mindful that shots roll-out out here making attack angles that much more crucial. Rough was not overly penal and inconsistent in spots. Bunkers looked decent (I was only in one so can't speak to play-ability too much). Tee were typical, uneven in spots and a little chewed on the par 3s. I thought the greens were inconsistent in their reaction to pitch shots. Some bit, some spots couldn't be bothered to hold any spin. Really strange. They rolled well overall and several greens showed signs of recent sodding that will take a few years to look like the rest of the green (ie Poa takeover complete). Overall a good value play in North SD County.
