An old buddy is out from NY so this is my week to play the better courses I usually don't. Today, 10/6, was Moorpark and we went out as a two-some around 12:20. The $60 twilight rate gets a $10 discount when booking online (less a $3.98 total booking fee), but somehow the price on our reservation came up as $40 per. They honored it, so that was a cool start to the round. Tony the starter was pretty nice, the range was open and in great shape, and we got out on time. We played the Creekside 9 first and I'd never been on it. Geez!—what a roller coaster! Got some course knowledge for the next time the hard way. Pretty dramatic angles, carries, and elevation changes. Canyon Crest was our second 9. One slanted tee box (Creekside) and one fungus infested green (Canyon) come to mind as exceptions to generally excellent conditions. Greens were fast with a felt-like surface, fairways were good and on the tight side, bunkers got firmer the further away from the putting surface you went—fairway bunkers very firm, green-side reasonably soft and groomed. It was blowing / gusting pretty good most of the round and slacked off a bit towards the end. Spectacular views from the high ground and with the late afternoon sun, it made for a stunning view from the 18th tee box. Even fighting the wind and with inflated scores, it felt like a special round. Definitely a dramatic course and in fine condition right now. Really enjoyed the post round beer while sitting on the patio. Good times.

Played on Tues with a 20% off rack rate with lunch! What was bad? Well Creekside was closed..but Ridgeline and Canyon Crest were open! Not a deal breaker. When we arrived at 9:00 for our 10:00 tee time the Driving Range was closed for reseeding! (should have been told this when making the T time over the phone the night before?) Well, bummer. Looks like well get some chipping and putting in before the round. Oh ya, did I mention the "free lunch?" Well it included burger, hotdog or a breakfast burrito with fountain drink. Well, with an hour to kill we opted for the breakfast burrito and now I was glad the range was closed because we would have never discovered how good these were!
Starter let us out in front of a foursome and behind another. We were lucky as the pack behind up struggled all day and we really never saw them. The group in front made fairly good time so we had the course to ourselves.
Tee boxes still have signs from the aeration but were in decent shape. Fairways and rough were also in great shape, the bunker sand was soft but thick, maybe from watering. Some areas were very wet and did not release, particularly near the front of elevated greens. The greens are in great condition right now. Rolling out for putts and holding shots. We will be back before the end of the Month and I will re review the course again but for now, This course is always worth the effort and expense. Great breakfast burritos! ;)

Played 27 brutal but lovely holes on 9/28. The course layout is challenging with many penal shots. If you miss the fairway by just a tad, you will drop as a lateral hazard, take your lumps/1-stroke penalty and move on. The POP was about 4:15 with marshall doing good job and assisting (help looking for balls and raking) to move the players along. The best part of MP was their green. Absolutely lovely and fast, like rolling on felt. Very nice course and will be back for more.

Played on Friday, August 30, with about a thousand others who had livingsocial deals ($65 for all you can play). I started at 7:04 a.m. with a couple of other singles. We played the Canyon Crest/Creekside, then went to the Ridgeline 9. After 27 holes with those guys, I ended up playing each course twice, making friends with a threesome on the Canyon Crest 9, then catching up and making friends with a nice twosome on the Creekside 9. It was hot/humid and the turf was wet in many places. Canyon Crest 8 green has a large repair area in front (it was aerated and sanded on about 15% of the front of that green. Overall, the course was in great shape from tee to green. I would say the greens were too soft, many deep, poorly repaired ball marks making for some bumpiness at times. The sand was mostly good: some bunkers were a little crusty, others a little thin, while most had plentiful, soft sand. I think MCC has had better conditions. The recent hot weather may be taking its toll. However, I had a great time golfing 54 holes in 12 hours and 45 minutes, taking an hour off for lunch. I was surprised my cart made it all day without a problem; the juice was just beginning to fade on the 53rd hole, 12 1/2 hours after heading out. Moorpark CC is a lot better than any L.A. muni, and the discount makes it worth it. I'll be back.

Played in our traditional Trader Joe's Tournament yesterday. We need to update the maintenance alert. Greens were perfect! Very receptive and rolled true. Fairways were in great shape for being late summer, just a few dry patches which were mostly on the slight mounds in the fairway, places were your ball would roll through anyway. We played from the White tees, and the boxes were in great shape as well. The sand looked well groomed and soft. If you want to play well here, your Tee shots must find the fairway, as there is a lot of trouble left and right, Hills, scrub brush, cliffs etc.. The staff and Rick are always professional and courteous. If you can get a deal or can afford the rack rate, it's worth it. We played Canyon Crest and Ridgeline as usual because it cuts out having to cross the street (we had 22 teams) and I think Creekside is a little more difficult with many forced carries. All the courses have their challenges and rewards! Check it out!

Moorpark has always been a great course to play. Lots of fun and exciting holes with different looks and beautiful scenes. We played Canyon and Ridgeline this sunday afternoon. Pace was excellent and finished in 4 1/2 hours. Saw the marshall once on each of the 9's we played. BevCart was also seen once on each 9.

As mentioned before, the design and layout of the course is fantastic and i never tire coming out. There are lots of elevation changes and some very unique holes.

Conditions were not as nice as most of the time at Moorpark but still pretty awesome. While the greens were in great condition, there were a lot of damaged spots due to unrepaired ball marks. Fairways has a few divots that were left unfilled and normally at other courses, it is expected but I hold Moorpark to a higher standard and it is a bit of a letdown not to have perfection at this course.

Starter was great and funny at times. Gave us the mini version of the 'talk' as we told him we have been here before.

Overall, always a great time at Moorpark and highly recommend this. Won't ever disappoint!

Played Sunday 7/8. Played all 3 nines. Moorpark never disappoints. Conditions were top notch as expected. Fairways are lush with good lies, rough is lush, thick and hard to get the ball out of. The greens were lightning fast with putts that break like crazy and do not stop. 4 foot putts can leave you 10 feet past the hole if not careful. Tentative 4 foot putts can at times break 4 feet away from the cup on you. Great layout, no 2 holes the same. We played late afternoon with the greens showing the signs of a bust day with spike marks and bumps everywhere. If possible play early to get that fresh cut and role of the greens. Cant wait to play again.

Played Sunday afternoon with Tony, George, and Rob from Meetup.com/LAGolfGroup and this site. Rob purchased (I think) a Living Social coupon for our foursome at $65/per golfer. Our nines were Creekside, then Canyon Crest. The course is in great shape: fast greens, lush conditions throughout. The tees were mostly level, without a lot of divots except on the par threes. The fairways and rough were super lush, but good roll out on well hit drives. Some areas were kind of wet. Sand was great; I was in a couple of bunkers and there was good sand even though it was a little crusty on top. The greens were very soft: many unrepaired ball marks, bumpy at times, and you could see a lot of foot prints and spike marks. Despite being soft, the greens were running very fast; I would say at least 10.5 or 11. We had a great time; pace of play on the front was about 2.5 hours, back nine was closer to 2 hours. Tony and I liked it so much, we played the Ridgeline nine also, but we had to skip a hole and a half to pass a slower foursome. We got through that nine in about an hour and 15 minutes. Our cart lost power and we got out and used a club to push the accelerator while we pushed it up to nine tee. After keying it off, we were able to limp it back to the cart barn.

Canyon Crest - easiest of the 3 courses: tee box, fairways, and greens were in excellent conditions. Really enjoyed playing this course.

Ridgeline - 2nd easiest of the 3 but challenging. Again, tee box, fairways, and greens were in excellent conditions. Really enjoyed playing this course.

Creekside - hardest of the 3 courses: conditions were same as above. Different with Creekside is that you have to "target" golf as it is difficult layout

Overall, Moorpark is such a beautiful course. The staffs were very nice. If there's another deal, we will most definitely return. Really enjoyed the so-called "marathon golf" weekend
