Ok - I'm not going to lie - I love this place. But man they must have hired the grumpiest greenskeeper as at least 13 pins were 2-3 paces from the edges (and not the good kind - the kind of edge where if you miss or roll of it's.........) Or, my bet is it was some sort of agronomic tactic to keep most play off the bulk of the putting surfaces to give them a breather. Either way, don't get suckered by the pins if they keep it this way for a while.

Course is generally very green for this time of year (at least it's the greenest thing I've played in '13). Fairways and rough have a few spots of brown likely from the frost, but generally have nice carpet-y, full lies to enjoy. And they are running out some. Tees had some new sod plugs here and there as did GUR throughout minor parts of the course but it didn't interfere and it's nice to see they are readying the course for spring. Greens were terrific like they usually are - receptive but smooth, medium quick, true and with a fair amount of grain in them for the time of year - if reading grain is your sort of thing.

Call me a sucker but I find it hard to pass up the weekday GN.com 50 buck rates they put out here fairly regularly. It's hard to beat.

Played my favorite combo which is Canyon Crest/ Creekside. Creekside was probably in slightly better condition but both very nice. Great shot values on virtually every play and subtle but gettable greens to keep you in the hunt. Well-designed and managed course.

BTW super-friendly starter by the name of Tony really took time to get to know his golfers and ensure everything was going smoothly. He will try to hustle you for some bucks but he's as nice a fellow as I've met working at a golf course.

Played Moorpark on 1/8 and had a great time. This place is very nice. Definitely in my top 10 favorites. The Canyon nine was very well taken care of. The Ridgeline nine was not in great shape. The clubhouse was great. The starter was super. He told us all about playing at Moorpark and got us out right away. The weather was fantastic. I'll be back for sure!

Had the pleasure of teeing it up with fellow GK’ers longball23, jerry64 and kerby14. First time meeting jerry64 and kerby14…great guys. It was a very cold and often times very windy Thursday afternoon – we finished in 4 hrs. The course was, as expected, in fantastic shape. We played the Creekside/Canyon combo from the gold tees (one up from the tips). Like Jerry said, those first 4 holes are on the Creekside 9 are about as tough as it comes. The greens on the Creekside were a perfect 10 in my book. Very fast, very smooth and holding shots. The greens on the Canyon 9 were a high 8…if I could rate Moorpark CC’s greens a 9.5 I wound but they will have to settle for a 9. The fairways of both 9’s were in excellent shape (I have seen them better although) providing lush lies with only occasional light colored thin spots. The rough was in good shape, only playing around a couple inches at its deepest spots. The bunkers were in great shape, well groomed with high quality sand (it’s not the marble white stuff but has a smooth consistent feel). The tee boxes were well groomed and lush. The overall course, service and amenities cannot be topped for the price. I know a lot of people drive a long way to Moorpark just to play Rustic Canyon but if you don’t come back to play Moorpark CC you’re doing yourself a disservice. This is my favorite course in Ventura County.

Hey all, here is a review from Moorpark played on Thursday 1/10/13. Yet me start off by saying it was a great outing with Gk members Longall23, JohnnyGK, and Kirby19. Thanks for the great round guys it was a real honor to play a round with such a terrific group of men, and way to go with some of those great shots by all who played, and not to embarrass him but Longball23,all I can say is WOW, what a ball striker!! Thanks to JohnnyGK for the invite. Arrived expecting windy, rainy, blustery conditions, but was pleasently surprised by the lack of wind to start the round and mostly sunny conditions.

Now to the courses we played. Started off of the Creekside, has to be the toughest opening 5 holes of golf that I have ever played. Creekside presented itself with fabulous conditions, the Greens were lightning quick I would guess 11 or 11.5, IN PERFECT CONDITION with little to no ball marks to be found. Fairways were smooth and cut right, perfect lies on ever hole. Bunkers from fairway to greens had well maintained sand with a good consistency. Rough was fair I would guess 2-4 inches and
again well maintained.
The second Nine we played on this day was the Canyon, again a great course in its own right but not as much bite as Creekside. Greens on the Canyon again were in good shape, a few more ball marks that were not repaired or repaired improperly but still a good challenge. Greens may have been a tad slower, but chalk that up to time of day, around 2:30 when we hit them and growth was apparent. Fairways again were in excellent condition as previously mentioned along with the rough, and consistency of sand. Round time took us just a shade under four hours.
I would recommend this course to anyone who is thinking about playing it and if it has never crossed your mind make a point to get there soon you'll be glad you did!!

Had the wonderful privileges earlier today of both getting to play Moorpark CC and getting to play it with three outstanding GK members - johnnygk, longball23, and jerry64. Was great meeting you all as well as getting to cheer on some great shots we all made (some of us, more than others!) Also, thanks again Johnny for inviting me out. This truly was one of the best golf experiences I've ever had.

I would say this for a few reasons. One being the company of a group of golfers who not only love but also care about the game of golf. Additionally, I want to say we played it in just over four hours at a very leisurely (yet not slow or lagging) pace and in playing both the Creekside and Canyon Crest nines didn't have to wait to hit a single time all day. Lastly, as longball just mentioned, course conditions are phenomenal. I haven't played as much as of late so I struggled on the greens and lost a few balls, but still hit far more great shots than very poor ones. Nonetheless, the greens on the Creekside course were out of this world - smooth and pure as can be. Whereas the Canyon nine was still nice, though it seemed the tiniest bit slower and there were a few unrepaired pitch marks. Either way, still in great shape. Both sets of greens were soft and very receptive, yet still quite fast with a lot of break. Being above the hole on some/most/all of the holes here is absolute torture, just as a heads up.

Both nines had different personalities, with the creekside having a few phenomenal holes as well as a few that seemed a bit quirky. What was nice, however, and as longball just mentioned, is that even these few quirky holes are played downhill which makes them a lot more fun and feasible than say, some of the uphill par 4s at Lost Canyons Shadow (I can't believe I'm even referring to that place lol). The wind on the Creekside was absolutely brutal, shifting every hole or so and completely unpredictable on top of strong as all heck. It was still rough on the Canyon side, but by the end of the afternoon the cold was a bigger culprit than the wind itself. Fairways and rough were both lush, and though the bunkers were in good condition, I struggled out of the two I found (both on the Canyon nine). I know it was just mentioned that the sand was great quality and of the perfect amount, and I agree with the first part of that but I wish the two greenside bunkers had a little bit more sand in them. Maybe it was just the fact that I don't remember the last time I practiced a bunker shot that contributed to the struggles more than the slight lack of sand in the traps.

For being up in the mountains, this place is still a bit wider and more open than a few other canyon courses I've played such as Lost Canyons, Robinson Ranch Valley, and Scholl Canyon. Decently wide fairways all things considered and not too many blind shots. However, this is especially true with the Canyon course. It was a lot more open, and I absolutely loved almost every hole on that nine. I can see that there was far more modification done to these holes to make them beautiful, but they still fit into the natural landscape extremely well and provide nine holes of a great challenge of golf. Like longball mentioned, absolutely great layouts here on both nines that we got to play.

Though I hit more good balls than bad ones, I still had eight shots go OB throughout the day and as I mentioned earlier struggled on the greens a bit, having five 3-putts :(. When I saw that I had shot a 55 from blues on the first nine (Creekside), I was shocked as I was honestly expecting to see a number around 65. I put up a 47 on the back for probably one of the best/worst 102s I've shot in my life. But for not even swinging a club in over a month and not playing a full course in probably 3 months, it feels really nice to think that had I kept the ball in play and putted a bit better I still would have been in the low 90s.

Despite the cold and wind, it was an absolutely beautiful day for golf and I could not be any more grateful for the opportunity to play with some members and meet them, especially given the circumstances of it being on a course as beautiful as this and a day as beautiful as we had. Thanks again Johnny and it was great to meet you as well as Gary and Jerry. Can't wait to see you guys and play some more golf with you again as well as getting to meet more new members and be more involved in the community. Thanks!

Played Moorpark CC with JohnnyGK and two nice GK golfers that I have never met Jerry and Hill. It was very nice to meet you both. Moorpark is in great condition right now,especially for winter golf in this area. The fairways were green and lush and provided beautiful lies with your ball sitting up. The rough around the fairways were healthy and anywhere between 2-3 inches thick. The greens were very soft and receptive on approach shots but putted pure and quick which is a great combination. Moorpark CC's bent greens are my favorite greens to putt on in Ventura County. Kudos to the greenskeeper for keeping them to a very nice standard. We played the creekside/canyon crest combo and the greens were immaculate and quick on the creekside nine. The sand bunkers contained high quality beach type of sand with just the right amount of sand. The tees were lush with just a few of the par 3 tees needing leveling and only minor divot damage. The weather was very cold and we had a nice cold wind today. I just love the layout of Moorpark where several of their tees are elevated and its so fun to let the driver rip. The practice facilities are very nice and the staff is friendly at Moorpark. I would recommend this course to any type of golfer. Beautiful scenery, friendly staff and a well maintained course. Good job Moorpark CC.

Had a tee time at 6,56 am. I walked on as single a little earlier and the starter let me out right away. I was the first and only one on the course.

Played Canyon Crest (some bare spots on the fairways and some unrepaired ball marks on the greens) and Ridgeline (perfect conditions!!). Pace of play 2.50hrs considering a 10 min coffebreak at the turn. An SCGA Tournament was taking place in the morning and when I left the course it was getting superpacked.

Played 11/2/12. First time here and found it to be an excellent choice in the area. Great facility (restaurant, driving range, good staff). Conditions were good to very good. Fairways, first cut, and rough all well defined and cut nicely. Greens smooth and rolled well. Played on the Ridgeline and Creekside 9's. Given you could play Rustic Canyon (10 minutes away) twice for the same price, I might go to Rustic, but this was overall a much nicer and complete facility. Recommend.
