Played Creekside/Ridgeline 11-23 20 with Gary, Kevin, and Pedro, teeing off around 12:20 and finishing in a little over 4 1/2 hours with some waiting on most holes. Tee boxes were mostly level and semi-lush with some minor divot damage on par threes. Fairways were a light green, but in real nice shape with decent rollout and nice lies. Rough along the fairways was more dormant and not to long, rough around the greens was more lush and thicker. Was in one fairway bunker that had a thin layer of sand and was nice to hit from. Greens were in really nice shape rolling fast and smooth, and playing on the soft side. Always a fun challenging course to play and so much better when it is in nice shape like today.

I don’t get out to play moorpark very often but I was a little more impressed this time around than I have been in the past. The layout has grown on me over the years.

First, I must say that these are the best greens I’ve putt on in quite some time, they were quick, deadly downhill, and smooth. I would rate them up there with some of the better public greens I’ve putt on over the years. The fairways were great to hit off of and provided just enough rollout without being too hard. There isn’t a ton of rough out there, but it was healthy and not too punitive. The traps, I was in a few, were well stocked and not too rocky. Some were a bit damp but that’s another story. Tee boxes were all pretty level and provided good turf to hit off of as this is a course where I take less than driver quite often.

Overall a high quality course that I look forward to playing again.

Great time yesterday out at Moorpark Country Club with GK Gurus. It’s been a couple years since I’ve been out there. This is my favorite golf course in Ventura County open to the public. They have 3 fantastic challenging 9’s, exceptional practice facilities, clubhouse, staff and views. The playing conditions are always great and variety of holes outstanding.

Yesterday was no exception. A beautiful Fall day teeing it up at 12:15 and finishing in just over 4 ½ hours. We played Creekside to Ridgeline, the original 18 holes, my favorite combo. Creekside IMO is by far the most difficult 9 and a tough 9 to start on. Our group struggled to find our game early. My apologies to our group behind us for the slow pace of play. We started playing much better on the back nine completing it in 2 hours.

As far as the conditions, excellent. Greens as good as I’ve seen them here and close to the best greens I’ve played all year. Smooth, fast and holding shots. Fairways mostly dormant bermuda turf but with full coverage providing nice lies and roll out. Rough mostly bermuda turf as well, mostly dormant, lush and not too penalizing. Around the greens there is some rye grass rough that can be challenging. Bunkers in good shape with quality sand. Tee boxes level and well kept.

I can’t wait to get back out here again. Thank you to all the GK Gurus that came out to play on a Monday afternoon. Check out the photos I just posted.

Played here yesterday with the Guru's and had a blast. I arrived early and was shocked by the number of cars in the parking lot on a Monday. Sadly, this was reflected by our POP today as the course was packed. Still, after a touch over 4 1/2 hours I have few if any complaints.

We played the Creekside/Ridgeline pair. Fairways were in great shape for this time of year with lush covering all around, rating 8.5/10. Greens were slightly fast but held shots nicely and rolled beautifully. Whoever cut the holes today must have had a terrible weekend! Pin positions on many holes were very difficult and definitely not what I expected on a Monday, rating 8/10. Tee boxes were level and well maintained, rating 8/10. Rough is as usual here, thin in a few places and very thick in others, but fair all the way around, rating 7.5/10.

Very seldom does this track disappoint and today was another great example of that. Customer service was great, they have a great practice area, and its hard to imagine a more scenic track inland. I highly recommend to anyone that's not a beginner.

Played yesterday with the GK groups. We were in the second group out, playing the Creekside and then the Ridgeline nines. Really nice course conditions. The greens, like GDR mentioned, were the nicest I have played all year; maybe the nicest I have played in a few years. Very difficult pin positions on many holes. You do not want to be putting downhill or chipping on from the short side. Will they keep it like that? Who knows? There were also many areas of the greens that had some repairs made recently; they were mostly healed in and pins were not located near those areas.

POP was abysmal; I love those guys, but c'mon man! At over 2 hours and 35 minutes to finish the front nine I assumed we would finish in the dark, but the guys picked up the pace slightly and we got through the back nine in just about 2 hours. Yeah, it was annoying to see the red message on the GPS telling us we were behind. Within the first couple of holes it said we were 2 minutes behind pace and it never got better. Really, if you are behind, you have no business looking for lost balls in those hazards unless you are waiting for groups ahead of you to clear.

Greens: 9/10. They were really fast and so soft they held almost any kind of shot. Balls rolled very smoothly, despite the numerous poorly repaired ball marks on some greens. At least one green had ball marks repaired with green sand. I guess when they mow the greens so tight, they are more easily damaged. It's a fine dance.

Fairways: 7/10. Really nice coverage overall. They had a nice medium green color and mostly a lush condition to hit from. The cut was half away and half toward, giving the appearance of light and dark with the dividing line right down the middle. Some areas were a little tight, especially near the green approaches.

Rough: 7/10. Mostly lush, semi-dormant Bermudagrass. There were areas that were so deep, you could easily lose a ball. Hitting out of it was a crap shoot. Mostly, though, it was quite manageable near the fairways.

Bunkers: 7/10. Good, light colored sand. It was, for the most part, soft and finely graded. I was in a few bunkers and the sand coverage was a little inconsistent. There were a few bunkers with light coverage of fine sand over hard pan, but many had ample amounts of deep sand. Unfortunately, despite there being rakes on most of the bunkers, many had deep footprints that previous golfers just left there. Inconsiderate, if you ask me.

Tees: 8/10. I played the white tees and they were almost all great. No issues placing a tee and only one or two were slightly unlevel.

Overall impression is this is a wonderful gem of a course in a nice area of So Cal. It's not too far from me so I think I will have to come back here as often as I can afford it. I have many good memories here from past GK events and yesterday's round is no different. My sincere thanks to Johnny and Moorpark CC for a great afternoon!

Rode the blues today 11/23/2020 joined by Ron, Pedro and Kevin. We had low 60 temps with about a swirling 1 club wind at times. Perfect golf weather. POP was 4 hrs 35 minutes on what looked like a jam packed Monday. Proshop staff was nice. Range today was off astroturf. They have a small beautiful chipping green and a large putting green. Carts had dividers equipped with GPS. Rakes in the bunkers. Pins left in with plastic cup sunken down in bottom of the hole. Saw some ballwashers out on the course, Did not see a drink cart today.

These by far were the best greens that I have putted on this year. Firm and fast putting and chipping wise where you did not want to short side yourself. Great combo in that they held iron shots like darts. I am assuming these are the type of greens the big boys get to putt on every week. Rated 9/10.

Fairways had decent to nice coverage. They played better than they might appear to the naked eye as there is some brown setting in some spots. For the most part they were green. Rated 7/10.

Tees were lush and mostly level. Rated 7.5/10.

Was only in 1 bunker on hole 1 on creekside. Nicely maintained and easy to hit out of. Rated 8/10

Rough had a nice doormant contrast to the greener fairways. There was also some nice green lush rough that was thick in spots. I encountered one of these spots just off the fairway and took my medicine gouging a 56 degree wedge back into play. Rough rating 7.5/10.

Super strong challenging layout here with beautiful views. Bring your camera. If you love beautiful greens come give Moorpark CC your business. Got a special place in my heart for this place as this is where I got hitched.

Rode the Blues on the Creekside/Ridgeline combo (6535/71.5/132) with GK Gurus John, Matt and Johnny in slightly over 4.5H twilight. Really easy going and enjoyable group to play with. The weather was nice. Bright, sunny and in the 60's with little wind most of the day. Thanks to Moorpark CC for having us out! First time here in 3 1/2 years, course was pretty busy, 4some after 4some teeing off before us. Moorpark can be a really challenging track. Most holes have hazards down one or both sides. Many holes have elevation changes and forced carries over hazards, this is not a course for beginners. All 3 nines are VERY unforgiving on crooked shots, you can accumulate penalty shots in bunches here if you are more than about 10 yards left or right of almost any fairway. Tees were mostly level & lush with few unfixed divots. Fairways were mostly lush with a few browned out spots. Nice to play from. Rough was thick and lush. Tough to get good club on the ball. Green side traps were well maintained with nice sand. Fairway bunkers were firmer and less maintained. Greens rolled nice, medium fast speed, firm but still held approach shots well. Lots of ball marks kept them from being excellent. Customer service was very good from everyone encountered. No cart person today. Starter trying to keep things moving. Nice GPS on the comfortable carts that had a COVID shield down the middle. $20 extra if you wanted a single rider cart. Only negative was the constant messages telling you that you are 10, then 15, finally 20 minutes behind pace. We started #1 with the hole vacant and were waiting on 17 and 18 tee for the group in front of us to clear. How do you speed up? Unless you played through, 4H, 35M WAS the POP today. Final note: it does nothing but slow things down to have the yardage part of the GPS blocked until you clear the constant speed up messages. Irritating. Nice grass driving range and great warm-up/practice area. One of the few semi private courses in Ventura County. If you want to be challenged, this is a picturesque layout up/down rolling hills that is usually not super crowded. Definitely recommended.

Teed off at MPCC at 10:40am Monday, 9/28. Finished at 3pm. Decent pace of play. We played the Canyon Crest and Creekside nines. The Ridgeline nine was being punched. Overall, the course is in good condition. There are still some faint holes in some of the greens from an earlier punching. On some greens it was a bit bumpy, but mostly the greens rolled nicely at medium to medium/fast speed, and held approach shots nicely. The fairways are mostly lush, with some thin areas, but good lies abound. The grass is a mixture of green and yellow areas. But very nice to hit from. Some of the tee boxes were in excellent shape, some were shaggy and some were chewed up a bit. The rough ranged from 1 - 3 inches. Some of it was lush and deep and other parts were thinner. My playing partner was in 1 greenside bunker. He said it was dirt, not sand. But he had no trouble getting out of it. I think the bunkers on this course need re-doing. I enjoyed the round, and do recommend it.

Played the Canyon Crest/Creekside nines today with a 10:20am tee time. POP was perfect, right at 4 hours. MPCC is in very nice condition overall. The fairways are not as green and lush as they were when I last played here in late April. But they are quite nice. Good lies abound in the fairways, with very little to complain about. The rough immediately adjacent to the fairways is 1-2 inches. It could be penal if your ball was sitting down. But it wasn't too bad. Wasn't in any bunkers today. But they looked good. Except there are some fairway bunkers scattered throughout the course that are churned up and full of dirt piles. I think they are in process of being renovated. I found one of them and just removed my ball and took a drop. The greens are in real good shape. They are soft and fairly receptive, and they run smooth at a medium-fast pace. I really like this course. It is challenging and fun to play. I highly recommend it.
