Walked the blues this morning at 8am with a very nice elderly threesome in 4 hrs 15 min waiting on the group in front for most the day. It was beautiful at 8am teeing off and heating up by the time we reached the back nine. Very friendly starter, nice sloped putting green with mats on the range today. Rustic is in great shape! Fairways were in very good shape considering we are hitting the hottest part of the year. Mostly lush, 90 percent lush with very few brown areas. So lush your not getting much roll out here currently. Rated 8/10 Greens on the back were slightly sanded and were rolling a tad slower than the front but in darn near perfect shape. Very receptive greens for Rustics standards. Rated 8/10. Fringes here are soaked in spots and can play slow. Tees were nice and lush and level. Very few issues even on par 3s. Rated 8.5/10 Rough is perfect greenside 9/10 and not bad just off the fairways 7/10 Was not in any bunkers but they looked firmer. Speaking of sodding and bunkers they did some work just right of 17 green by adding some sod and a new bunker that looks fantastic. Highly recommended. With hot weather coming up get out there early to beat the heat especially if you are walking. Was glad I played my home course today on my 800th GK review.

Walked the blues this morning 8/1/22 with my buddy Matt joined by a nice single. Weather was perfect to start the morning and heated up nicely to around 90 degrees when we finished. We pushed the foursome in front of us who fell 2-3 holes behind by the middle of the front nine. Pop was 4 hrs 30 minutes.

This is the nicest I have seen RC in August.

Fairways were bordering a 9/10 with striped lush green grass that was like butter. Perfect hitting surfaces. The course played longer as there is not the amount of roll out you usually get here. Great shape!

Tees super lush as well. All mostly level. Rated 8.5/10.

Greenside rough was a 9.5/10 green and lush and in great shape. Fairway rough much improved just off the edges of the Fairways. Rated 7/10.
With this course you would normally bump and run chips up from the fringe but at current time you can pitch chips closer to the pin to avoid the soft fringes.

Was not in any bunkers so can't rate them. They all looked firmer and raked.

The greens were as soft as I have ever seen them. My pw approach on 11 to a front pin landed and stayed in my pitch mark. The greens rolled super pure but were slow. Overall green rating 8/10.

High marks for the Fairways, tees, rough and even though the greens were slower then normal they also were in great shape.

Wow, the reviews are right, this is a gem of a course! Played here Saturday 7/23. Checked in about an hour before and used the grass range to warm up. Putting green can get a little tight with only a few holes but it was fine to get a little preview of the speed and undulation of the greens. Course itself is really stunning. A pretty layout nestled into the hills. Conditions in most spots were very good, greens were slower than the putting green, but rolled well. As a single I shared a cart with another single which wasn't an issue. The twosome we paired up with were great as well. The carts themselves are nice and have GPS and green heat maps. Playing my first time it helped to be paired up with 3 folks that had a lot of course knowledge and it definitely comes in handy when standing on a tee box to know what lines to take. Didn't necessarily reflect in my score as some OB/waste areas definitely come into play on a few holes but you really need a mi sh-t to go out so I'd say the course is very fair. Wind wasn't much of an issue on this day although I'm sure it can wreck havoc when the Santa Anas blowing through. The only downside of the round was the POP. Front 9 we went out in 2:10 but the back ground to a halt and took about 3. No marshalls out but the waiting on every hole definitely takes you out of the round a bit. I don't blame the course for being busy but a 5+ hour round is a bit much. There is also cart service which is nice for days when it's hot. Honestly even with POP (and on weekends it's just become a fact of life it'll be slow) I can't wait to get back and play again!! This course will become addicting as you learn the nuances and angles and the conditions change, a great challenge and a very pretty, fun course. Well worth the trip up from LA and a tremendous value!

Played Rustic Canyon on 7/14. Course was in very good shape. Outward nine has subtle elevation changes while back nine changes are more dramatic. Need to take at least one more club on uphill targets. Plays like a links course with approaches to the green shave down to give you a variety of short game shots. Greens were in good shape but ran a little slow. Bunkers could use a little more sand. The only real drawback was that the back nine played a little slow. A marshal would’ve been helpful. It was well worth the drive.

Played on Friday, 6/24, with a 2:10 tee time, first round of our GK Plays trip. It started off with a rather cranky pro shop guy, may have been a bad day, but all 4 of us interacted with him at a different time and we all pointed out how pissy he was. F&B and outside services staff were excellent though.

The course conditions were what I would expect from a course with a "links" feel to it. Fairways were firm with plenty of run out and some browning areas which played the same as the green stuff. Rough varied, with some thick grass around some of the bunkers. Bunkers were in good condition, with decent sand and not thin. Greens were running a nice medium-fast, but not as fast as the practice green.

I've been wanting to play Rustic Canyon for a while and it did not disappoint. I loved the design and it's definitely worth the $51 late afternoon fee (but disappointed in the $7 "convenience fee" for making me pay in advance).

Played here today with a 2:10 tee time booked a few weeks ahead of time. Paid $16 more at check-in for a cart (feared it'd be too hot to walk today, but it actually turned out not too bad). Started right on time and pace was excellent for a Rustic weekend. Two members of my foursome bailed after nine but that didn't allow us to speed up too much, just a little more waiting on the group ahead on the back nine. Overall POP was around 4:20. Conditions are great! Greens are smooth, medium speed and medium firmness. I'd prefer them a bit faster, but otherwise they're in excellent condition. As mentioned in other reviews, fairways are lusher and greener than I remember seeing them in the last couple years, providing good lies with plenty of cushion under the ball. As usual here, rough around the greens is very lush. The rough alongside the fairway varies in depth and severity. I think I was in three bunkers and they were all quite compacted, but not terribly so. Blue tee boxes were really nice. Beautiful day on one of my favorite courses in excellent condition. What's not to like?

Played Rustic for the second time ever today (Friday 6/3). It was a lot of fun, as was the case the first time I played it, which I think was around a year ago. Course is in great shape. Greens were slow if putting uphill, obviously faster if putting downhill, and medium everywhere else. Lots of undulations in these greens, with many also being protected by runoffs on any given side, making accurate ball placement important on approaches, pitches and chips. The other interesting thing about these greens is that most of the time, it’s difficult to tell where the fringe ends, and the green begins. There is a lot of similarity from fairway to fringe to green, which I would say is typical of a links course, which this could certainly be described as.

Fairways are in great shape, as well, as is the rough, for the most part (which is about as mild and non-penal as you will find). There *are* bare spots along the edges of the rough, but it’s hard to tell if those are by design, as there are several waste areas and other rugged features around this course (again, fitting for a links style). Speaking of which, I was only in one bunker, and it was of the somewhat rugged variety – small, along the edge of a green next to a natural habitat hazard area, with soft, granular sand, and no bunker rake in sight. In fact, I’m not sure I saw a single bunker rake on the entire course. I guess you don’t need them, with the kind of sand they use.

As mentioned above, this is a links style layout, which means it is very flat, with lots of natural habitat everywhere, and lots of shots that you can’t quite see where you’re supposed to hit it, which makes prior experience and course knowledge/familiarity a great advantage. The course doesn’t have much in the way of typical defenses, as the fairways are wide, the greens are big, and the bunkers don’t come into play as much as at other courses. As a result, the challenge comes from the undulation of the greens, the wind, and the semi-blind shots throughout.

The front nine is a semi-unique collection of holes, as it has three par 5s AND three par 3s. This makes for a nontraditional par 36. The back nine is more traditional, with only two of each, and five par 4s. Some of the par 4s on both nines are quite long, specifically, well over 400 yards (from the blue tees). But, you can get some good roll on these fairways, and some of the holes have an elevated tee, so they don’t necessarily play as long as the scorecard indicates. All in all, a fun track with great conditions that I look forward to playing again in the future.

Walked my home course this morning 5/31/22 from the blues with my buddy Matt joining a twosome on 3 tee. Total Pop was 4 hrs 45min on a packed course with temps in the high 70s and anywhere from a 10-15mph breeze. Pro shop staff always friendly.

Rustic is in great shape right now!!

Fairways are lush and padded with great lies. Rated 8/10

Greens are semi quick, holding nicely and would say putting close to a 10.5 on the Stimp. I have seen them quicker. Rated 8/10.

Tees are in great shape lush, level and they have added new wood tee markers since my last round which are cool. Rated 8.5/10

Rough bordering the fairways has more coverage than usual albeit some of it still brown, wispy and thin in spots. The greenside rough is always the highlight of tbe show at Rustic in the 9/10 range. Fairway rough 6.5/10 range.

Was not in any bunkers today.

Highly recommend this course. Golf top 100 courses to play. Great layout, great conditions, choose your wind days here selectively.

Played 4-28-22 early morning walking as a single for $49 and finishing in a little under 3 hours. Tee boxes were in good condition, nice coverage, level and cut tight. Fairways were in nice shape , semi-lush and a little soft with nice lies but not much roll out. Rough along fairways was not much longer than fairways and in decent condition. Rough around greens is 2-3 inches and very lush. Was in one greenside bunker that was in okay shape with a decent layer of firm sand. Greens were playing a little soft and slower than normal, but still rolling pretty smooth.
