Got out to Rhodes Ranch yesterday. What a treat this course is. Fun layout for sure. I had this on my list of courses I wanted to try when I go to Vegas. Haven't been playing as much lately, but looking to turn it up the rest of this year. I accidentally booked this course for the wrong date and I got charged. I called the pro shop and got a hold of the manager who told me take your pick of dates and times and come on out we would love to have you. I was very impressed by this. I bought a hat and talked to the guys in the pro shop for a while, really fun group. Rhodes Ranch is a 6151 yard Par 71 that weaves through a deep housing complex that also serves as a private for those who live there. The practice facility is rather large and has a good size practice green. The course is challenging but enticing. Drivable par 4s, long par 3's, the par 5's are long, and some very unique traps. The greens were tough to read with the wind but fair. The fairways were perfect and the sand needed a little love. Overall, for what you can potentially pay for out in Vegas, this is a gem. A little slow for a Friday morning but totally worth it. It is not close to the strip however a brand new casino opened up a mile away and it seems really nice. Looking to not break the bank and have fun, this is it.

Rhodes Ranch is one of the more beautiful courses in Las Vegas within their mid-range price. The holes are scenic with Palm trees, well-placed bunkers, hills bordering the generous fairways, water on 7 holes- 3 of the par-3s, a few guarding par-4 approaches, and a lush, green suface to play off of. One area was redone during the last couple of years to make room for more housing (boo!) with a cool par-5 #5 hole cut in half to become a simple, short par 4 that I always manage to screw up, followed by an even shorter "driveable" (not for me, though), slightly uphill par 4 with 2 hidden, little trench-looking traps fronting the green that has replaced the former challenging, long par-4 6th. That replacement green there is small and has a different, harder surface than any other one on the course- just a note. All in all the rework was quite decently done, if unwelcome to us long-time local players. I do miss that par-5!
Today the fairways were beautiful and perfect, the rough thicker in some places but still playable and not particularly penal. I was in 2 fairway bunkers, one was strewn with small rocks but the sand was just fine, the other was almost hardpan, but with no rocks, so some inconsistency there. I didn't get into any greenside ones (luckily), so I can't comment on those.
The greens were about in the best condition I've ever seen there at Rhodes Ranch and mirrored the practice green by the range. All were in wonderful shape, with a little noticeable "corduroy" surface texture appearance from recent conditioning which never really affected any putts. Pretty much medium speed but with downhillers running quite a bit quicker than their looks. We got surprised on a few of them, but if you've read my reviews before you know I'm an easily befuddled putter anyways...
Range is off of mats, balls must be purchased extra, no freebies. Warmup chipping/putting area is large and very nice.
In conclusion, a very nice day of golf, a very pretty Ted Robinson designed course to enjoy, a nice mix of holes, beautiful par-3s, almost no forced tee carries other than those over-water par-3s, so good for golfers of all abilities- very much recommended!

Played 36 here today using the GolfMoose voucher. Had a 7:08 (first group off) tee time and got paired with two other singles. We finished in just over 3 hours. I went in the pro shop and they were able to send me right back out as a single, but play was understandably slower for the second round. Another single joined me on the 6th or 7th hole and then another single joined us on the 10th, but we still had to wait considerably on the groups in front of us. Total POP wasn't bad, though, about 3:40 total and I was done with 36 by 2:00 p.m. Gorgeous day, not much wind.

Conditions here are mixed, even within specific areas of the course. Many greens – I'd estimate about 14 or 15 of them – seem to be suffering from some kind of fungus or disease, causing them to be very blotchy and have many bare spots. The unaffected areas are actually quite nice, but if your path to the hole rolls through the diseased portions, it's very difficult to keep the ball online and/or gauge the pace. Also, the bad areas of the greens seemed much more pronounced in the morning round, making the greens very bumpy and slow. Later in the day after they dried out they didn't seem quite as bad. The good parts of the greens roll about medium speed and accept full shots well. Overall I ranked the greens a 5. In the morning round, they were spraying some sort of chemical on the greens that smelled like new carpet. Hopefully they can get that issue resolved. Fairways are very nice, good coverage of lush green grass providing mostly good lies. Rough is also in nice condition, a little longer and fluffier than the fairways but not penal. I was only in a couple bunkers and they seemed to have a thin layer of sand over a hard base. Black tee boxes were mostly good.

This was my first time playing here and I enjoyed the layout quite a bit. It definitely exceeded my expectations. I was warned the new 6th hole is a little funky, where two very narrow bunkers front the green. Almost feels like a non-golfer designed that new hole without realizing how odd those bunkers are. The course features some nice rolling elevation changes and some grandiose Ted Robinson water features (giant waterfall on 16 comes to mind) as well as nice views of the nearby mountains. Really good deal with the GolfMoose voucher considering their rack rate is $72 right now and it's only $75 (plus I applied a GolfMoose gift certificate to make it even cheaper). I think the window to play ends tomorrow, though. Maybe they'll extend it.

Miscellaneous notes: Course was CPO until 8:00 a.m. due to frost, although I didn't actually see any frost. Better safe than sorry, I guess. Beverage cart came around many times. Something needs to be done about the men's restroom/locker room, which had the most terrible stench like brussels sprouts and broccoli being microwaved times 10.

April 11, play day was a mid to high 80s in temps although we had patchy clouds most the time.

The staff were attentive and helpful as they welcomed us to the course. A couple of the reviews before this are echoed with the exception of the marshal who caught us on the #6 tee and said we were behind for the reason that the group ahead had already left the green. So I told him that if we’re only playing in under an hour- 50 minutes through five holes, I asked what was the expectation. After hashing it out with him, he agreed we’re on time and we asked if he’ll give us back the five minutes we spent explaining to him- he scoffed and just drove away.

Anyway, the course is in good condition for play. Lush fairways that ran well, fairway bunkers with sand including green side bunkers. The teeing grounds were level an they were lush. The whole course was green. The greens looked great, but I’m sorry to report that it was bumpy and some putt could either go left or right- we were not impressed by the greens conditions.

The speed of play was three hours and 45 minutes including the wait time in some shots, but not including the five minutes we spoke with the marshal.

Early morning four hour round after the four hour drive. Facility is very nice and was very busy when we finished the round. Staff is good and carts are nice but have NO gps. I was lucky to be paired with a local Dave, who was loco! He and the other playing partners were the best!! We started on the tenth hole and played the front nine last. The tee boxes were all fantastic with great coverage and level. The rough was 2-4" long and was not too thick but short enough to hit a good shot from. The traps had plenty of good sand but most were damp and needed a raking. The greens were excellent with hardly any marks and rolled fairly quick holding well struck shots great with less break than you would think. The layout was great and course top notch. The front nine is much shorter and noticeably so than the back because of the new homes previously mentioned in other reviews. I really had a great time and great round and highly recommend a visit. I was told that this course is one of the busiest if not the busiest in the Las Vegas area.

Played on Sunday, 2/28, for the Vegas Golf Network's "Clash at the Ranch" monthly tournament, played from the new "tips," just under 6600 yards. Tee times started just before 10:30, unexpectingly going off #10, which surprisingly threw a mental wrench into things.

Practice area: Huge driving range (well over 30 stations or so), with mats and an insert for tees. Putting green is also HUGE, but only had holes on half. Speed and conditions were a bit better than course conditions today. Definitely a bit faster.

Course: Incrediblely great conditions. Tee boxes were pretty level, some divot damage on the par 3s. Fairways were lush, green everywhere, and those cut lines looked incredible. Rough was up a bit, just enough to make you think about the shot. Greens were good, but far from great. Saw some balls jumping along what should of been a smooth line, just probably needed to be rolled. Bunkers. Ugh, the bunkers. Depending on the spot, either thin or fluffed up, and I'm not even talking about the bunkers on the new 6th green (they shouldn't even exist).

Design: Overall, I like this Ted Robinson Jr design better than it's sibling, the private Canyon Gate course. This is the 1st time I played it since a redesign (sold off 5 acres for houses) changed the long, awesome par 5 #5 into a ho-hum par 4 and the hardest hole #6 into a teeth-less short par 4 with the stupidest 3 foot wide coffin bunkers fronting a green hidden (and no GPS, or updated GolfLogix/18 Birdies) by a 6 foot mound in front. Maybe the next time I'll change my mind, but right now I'm not a fan. There's a lot of man-made elevation/humps and bumps in the residential routing. It's a fun course, the ending (16-18) is tough, but the front overall is better.

As 1st off of 10 in a tournament, we finished in 3:40, just catching a group on the last 9. Overall, I will never turn down an early round here, but beware of those later in the day.

Played on Veterans' Day, 11/11, with John_T and a couple of his co-workers. Paid $65, which is about the top of what I would pay for a "local" course. Teed off on time at about 8:45a, which is about as late I would go since I had to work at 3. This course has a reputation of being a bit slow. Finished the front 9 in just a shade over 2 hours, then waited on every hole of the back, with 2 groups on at the tee on a few holes. Unbelievably, finished in about 4:40, just above their pace of play recommendation.

Course is in great shape. A few tee boxes had the markers set with uneven lies, but most were fantastic. Bunkers were in solid shape. I was only in ones near the fairway, but the group appeared to be handle the green side ones with ease. Rough is thick and gnarly, I had a couple of shots where it grabbed the hosel and killed the shot. Fairways were incredible, just lush from tee to green. Greens were in excellent shape. Smooth, very receptive, and medium fast.

The more I play here, the more I love this course. It's a Ted Robinson Sr design and has that SoCal feel with plenty of palm trees and some big water elements. It runs through a residential development, but the houses are out of play and barely noticeable, except for the early morning house party on #9. There's lot of elevation changes and plenty of awkward lies. Maybe not a must play, but definitely second tier.

Played on the 4th of July, 7ish tee time, with famed02 and a couple of his buddies. Paid $49 (plus $2 fee) on GolfNow. Easy check in. Decent carts (USB, but no GPS). I was running late so not able to use the practice areas. Still the silliness with the carts staged until it's your time, than the starter turns your cart on. I'm sure there's a good reason but it results in a line of carts filled with people just sitting there, waiting to go, like a shotgun start but without the shotgun.

After my last and only experience had us walking off at over 5 hours with 2 stacked up holes to go, I was hesitant to play on a holiday. Luckily, I think the early time helped and we finished in 4:15 with some accordion like waiting/no waiting on some holes. We had some drinks and food in the restaurant after, good service, decent prices.

On to the course! The course was in great shape. Absolutely no complaints, tee to green, outside of a few crowned tee boxes and unfixed ball marks (seriously, there was a lot for such an early time). Fairways were lush and ultra-green. Rough was up, at least 2 inches, thick and juicy. I chopped it out almost every time, no way of hitting a full shot. Greens were smooth (outside of those pesky marks, did no one carry a tool?), and medium fast. Some had some top dressing on them. Sand was decent, a bit heavy but easy to hit.

I really like this course. Ted Robinson Sr design, so you get 3 par 3s over water, and an 18th hole with a fountain. Even though it's in a residential course, no real house issues and only the road parallel to 1. It's not flat, with awkward stances in the fairway and definitely in the rough. Not a must play in Vegas, but if you can get a good price, it's worth. (Odd note: GolfNow was cheaper than the course website for residents, probably the 1st time I've seen it)
