One word describe this golf course and that word is WOW! What a wonderful Jack Nicklaus course in Coyote springs, NV. Conditions are top notch and the service is absolutely wonderful. From the check in to the starter everything was awesome. This course is 50 miles from the strip and 40 miles from mesquite in what was to be a planned community with what I was told 8 courses. unfortunately they opened the first course during the recession and every thing was put on hold They have a model inside the clubhouse that shows the next phase with a course co-designed by Nicklaus and Pete Dye (that is going to be a tough course). Conditions here are amazing for being the only thing in the area its a true diamond in the rough. From tee to green everything is great. Full coverage and nothing to complain about. I highly sugest playing here if you get the chance I hope it stays open for years to come and it will be interesting to see if the rest of the community with be built around.

Played here Monday, 7/18 while on vacation in Vegas. 7:20 tee time on an amazing $25 special – including hot dog and a drink – they offered to celebrate the opening of Mitch's Bar & Grill, a pretty basic bar and grill in a trailer next to the pro shop. Nice to see progress being made to the amenities here, because the course is truly exceptional. I was paired with two other guys and POP was ideal, with the group in front of us done with No. 1 prior to us teeing off. We barely saw them again, and only saw the group behind us once or twice all day. Total POP was 3:55 on a hot, windy morning. I played the blue tees.

The course is in fantastic shape, especially considering summer temperatures in the Nevada desert. I gave it 9s across the board except for a 6 on the bunkers, which were mostly compacted and in need of a good raking. Somewhat ironically, the best, fluffiest bunker I encountered all day was a fairway bunker, when you wouldn't mind it being more firm on top. The greens were smooth, medium fast and fairly accepting of full shots. Fairways are lush and beautiful, always a great lie. Rough is also very lush, cut about 2 inches deep and not too penal. Tee boxes were excellent.

This being my second time playing the course, the thing I noticed most this time is the surprising width on many holes. Some fairways might be 80-100 yards wide in spots, giving the players many options and angles to best attack various pin positions on the difficult, undulating greens. While there are no holes that stand out as the definitive "signature" hole to me, the entire course is solid and keeps you engaged from start to finish. It's a long drive from anywhere to get there, but definitely worth the effort.

Played 2 rounds as a 2some on 7/3 for $44 each with a free replay. Teed off the 1st round just before 7, played through a 4some on 3, then stalked a 3some the rest of the way to finish just over 4 hours. Grabbed lunch in their new bar and grill, teed off the 2nd round just before noon and finished about 4 hours, feeling like we had the course to ourselves.

The course was in excellent shape. Tee boxes were flat and easy to find a spot to tee up. Fairways were flawless and really wide. Very hard to miss it on this course. Lush, a little wet in the morning, but dry and firm in the afternoon. Rough about 2-3 inches. If there was a complaint, it was the inconsistent green side bunkers, some were fluffy, other firm. Greens were great. Medium/fast, smooth as glass, and no unrepaired ball marks. If they were any faster, balls wouldn't stop. This is one of the best, if not the best, conditioned course compared to other desert course in the summer.

Customer service is great. Carts are waiting for you to park, loaded straight from the trunk, then a short walk to pay. Carts have a small cooler with 2 water bottles and there are water coolers stocked with free bottled water in the 2 tunnels you pass through (1 front, 1 back, so 4 times to grab some). Drink cart was around at least twice on both nines. The newly opened bar and grill is a great addition.

Ok, so this course is in the middle of nowhere, about a hour drive north of Vegas, but it is absolutely worth the trip. Temperatures are about 5-10 degrees cooler than Vegas, but usually get an afternoon breeze. Huge driving range which is probably the best in the Vegas/Mesquite area. You're guaranteed 18 flat shots, but after the tee shot, everything else is at angles. I don't think there's a flat spot in the fairway. Definitely bring the short game and putter. Jack Nicklaus designed some greens with double and triple breaks if you are on the wrong side. There are some bail out areas, but you pay a price if you use them.

Overall, I love this course. It beats me up every time and I look forward to it when we book it. Even with the difficulty of it, I have a fun time. Recommend it if you make a trip to Vegas or Mesquite.

Played Coyote Springs on a Wednesday in June. Yeah it was hot. Very hot. But Coyote Springs was worth enduring the temp's for. First rate across the board. The GOOD - just about everything. The course is in excellent shape. Pure. Tee to green, it's probably the BEST CONDITIONS I've seen in the greater Las Vegas area, short of the premium courses (e.g. Cascata, Shadowcreek, Wynn). TEES are level, relatively divot free, with great coverage. FAIRWAYS with very few exceptions are nearly perfect. Lush and pure. One hole on the back (maybe 11) had some weird burnout areas where something was spilled on the fairways and tracked by course vehicles. The ROUGH is consistent, thick, and penal to play from when hitting long or mid-irons. The GREENS are probably the best I've putted on in town. Appropriately sized given the length of the hole with some huge complexes, some others with subtle contours and breaks, still others with big benders and slope, and only one gimmicky green (think it's #14 - they could bulldoze that one and it would improve the hole. But it's "interesting" and memorable for sure). The PRACTICE FACILITY is - I sound like a broken record - the best in the Las Vegas area. Period. Huge range. Huge. Plenty of targets. Plenty of balls. Chipping and putting greens - check. The SERVICE was excellent, save maybe for the starter (below). The GOLF SHOP guys, GUEST SERVICES afterwards, and BEV CART girl were on point. Especially the bev cart girl - friendly and helpful throughout (we saw her five times). We ordered hot dogs on #12 and were eating them by #15. She even apologized for taking "too long" which didn't feel like the case from our end. And having ice chests with cold bottled water in the tunnels was a great touch. With no water on the course, this was very much appreciated. First rate. The COURSE DESIGN is fantastic. Demanding par-3's throughout. Some easier driving holes, others that get your attention on the tee. Some very long holes that require a big poke, and other short holes where you can catch your breath. But typical Jack, he flashes bunkers in your face and cut-ins to distract your attention or distort your perception. Plenty of risk reward holes too... wider landing areas when shorter off the tee but leaving longer approach shots, and conversely squeezing the longer tee balls for those looking for a shorter second shot. The COST is excellent given what you experience. The "MEH" - While the service was excellent overall, both guest services prior to play and the starter fell short. Both were a little short of personality and gave only cursory assistance. Far from rude though. Because it is in BFE, there is something lacking in FACILITIES area. There aren't much of them. Can't think this can be helped given the situation out there, but the level of the course begs for a similar experience with the clubhouse/restroom areas. All were serviceable, clean, and well stocked but just not at the level of the course. The RANGE BALLS were less than ideal. Given the all grass range, I was anticipating better balls. Could've been a year old for all we knew. The BAD - LOCATION. When they used to say "minutes from the Strip," they meant hours. At least it seemed that way... driving out in the middle of nowhere (BFE). In reality, it's just over an hour from central Vegas. And that's when you're already on the highway. Plan accordingly. And the property is definitely OVERGROWN in areas. It doesn't really come into play, but it just looks unkempt. Again, given their situation it is not likely this can be helped fully. It took me eight years to finally play Coyote Springs, and now I'm kicking myself for not have taken the trek north before. It is among my favorite golf experiences in the Las Vegas area. Go play it - you will not be disappointed. Is it worth the drive? Maybe not regularly because d%mn , it is way out there. But once you're there, you'll forget all about the long car ride.

First time that I played this course and it was in amazing shape. It is a Jack Nicklaus golf course that was very enjoyable and difficult. I was striking the ball great, hit 13 of 14 fairways and 14 of 18 greens in regulation but that greens are extremely difficult and have numerous contours so much so that at times it is as if you are playing miniature golf. Unfortunately, I three putted several greens. And I thought I made some great puts. The cart girl said that the pin placements were really tough today and that everyone was complaining about them. The greens putted true, but were very very quick. Sand was soft and fluffy and nice to play out of. Fairways were very lush and had a great lies. Tee boxes were all in great condition with a few of the tees boxes on short par 3's having divots. Overall, the conditions was great and I paid $66 and would definitely return.

Tee Boxes are excellent. Fairways are excellent. Greens are very good. Several fixed divots that don't seem to heal. Putts did roll smooth. There are breaks everywhere on the green that went ways I thought were impossible. The greens are very large
The fairways don't have many flat lies. It seemed I was always on an uphill, downhill or sidehill lie
Rough is thick especially around the greens. Sand is excellent. There are plenty of traps to hit into
Only drawback is there is no GPS on the cart.( I guess I know what to ask Santa for) and the sprinkler heads are hard to find

Round 6 on the trip. Coyote Springs is one that was on my West Coast wish list. With my travel arrangements, Saturday was the only day that allowed me the time to drive out to the remote area where the course is located. I left from Bakersfield, CA early in the morning to make my 11:30am tee time and it took longer than I thought. The course is about 50 minutes north of Las Vegas and I wasn't able to shave much time off the drive. It is inconvenient to get to, but no question, it is worth the gas money considering the layout and the $69 green fee. Make sure you have everything you need before getting off the interstate!

Coyote Springs is a newer, Jack Nicklaus course that was built around the time of the housing crash. The course typically gets ranked as one of the top public places to play in Nevada and is well liked by the golf magazines. The course was built before any homes or services and I saw just one home off in the distance. At this point it is just golfers and the desert landscape. If you are considering a round here I'd make sure to do it before all the houses go up, assuming that is still the plan.

Generally, I like Nicklaus designs. I say generally because sometimes Jack can go crazy with the green complexes, seemingly losing touch with the fact that the average golfer doesn't have his same touch that won all those majors. Well, he designed lots of nutty greens here! Besides the gorgeous setting for golf, the massive slopes in the greens are going to be the other thing I remember about Coyote Springs. I didn't have much fun on or around the greens, but from tee to green I enjoyed the course. There is some minor elevation change and the fairways are wider. There isn't much target golf to deal with which I like! The fairways have plenty of undulation so controlling the flight from them could be tricky.

The course was in great shape. I didn't notice any patchy sections and always had wonderful lies. The rough wasn't too tough to play from, except from around the greens where it was thicker. The greens were quick and smooth. I'd call Coyote Springs a modern course, lots of separation between holes and design features (ie: lots of bunkers) to make it pretty. Well worth the drive from Las Vegas if you have a car.

Let's see, where do I begin? I'll make this simple. If you've never played Coyote Springs and you call yourself an avid golfer, you absolutely have to play this course. Yes, it's 40 miles from anything resembling civilization. Yes, it's very, very difficult. But this course could legitimately host a Ryder Cup tomorrow, it's that good. (It needs a new clubhouse, but more on that later). I'm not typically one for hyperbole, but this could be the best desert course in the country.

OK, onto my review. Let's start with with the facilities & service. Service is competent and very friendly but no elite. The clubhouse here is a glorified trailer. It's the only downside to the entire course. It does have the basics, but not much more. For those of you who know me, I'm a sucker for nice ranges, and Coyote Spring's range is awesome. It can accommodate easily 40-50 people, it's all grass, very level, and has a really nice chipping/bunker area. I'd put this range on par with high end ranges in Florida like World Woods, ChampionsGate, and OC National. Very impressive for a desert course.

The course itself is pure golf. Unlike other Mesquite/Vegas courses that feature impressive vistas and 100 foot canyons, Coyote Springs utilizes the natural terrain to really make you think. Nearly every hole has a risk/reward feature of some kind, weather its off the tee, on the approach or around the green. Course is 7300 yards from the tips (6600, 6200 from shorter tees), but it plays probably 150 yards farther due to elevation and well placed hazards. Fairways tend to be undulating but very wide and greens are huge but severely sloped.

Conditions were near immaculate. I played 36 holes today and I literally never had a bad lie other than when I hit it into the desert. Greens started the day very smooth but got a little bumpy as the day went on. The rough was thick but playable, and the sand was consistent throughout the course. Tee boxes were better than some putting greens at other courses... seriously, that good.

Overall, Coyote Springs ranks up there with elite courses I've played such as Kiawah, Streamsong, World Woods, and Bay Hill. It's on a different level than other desert courses that I've played in SoCal. And the value isn't even close. I played 36 holes for $69 during their high season. That just barely pays my caddie at other courses. Play here, you won't be disappointed.
