Golf Course Reviews
Golf Course Reviews: California, Arizona, Nevada, Texas, Oregon, Washington, Colorado, Utah, Florida, Hawaii!Played last weekend at Meadowlark with a buddy and pre-paid on GolfNow far too much but was treated very well by the golf shop when one of our threesome couldn't make it last minute - appreciated that!
Still, even on a Saturday it's tough to justify an $89 rate here when we were walking anyway. I wish there was some way that GN reservations would be flexible when opting to walk and not take carts, but that's above my pay grade I suppose.
Course is in pretty decent shape right now as the greens are running pretty nicely with no major issues, while the fairways have good-decent coverage everywhere, however there are some big trouble spots middle of the fairways on the 9th and 10th holes - just big dirt areas after the rains that don't smell none too good at all.
Tee boxes (played from the blues) were okay with some TLC appreciated, but serviceable. The bunkers were not great but tough to judge fairly right after heavy rains when they're chunky and some still have water in them. It will get better once the sun comes out again for a few days.
POP was really great the first nine but then really came to a crawl on the back nine. The group in front of us let us past them at the turn but it really didn't do any good whatsoever in terms of the overall time, but you never really expect a super-fast round here anyway.
In summary, course is in pretty good condition right now overall but get a better deal than I did.

Played in group 1B of yesterday’s Vivid Golf/GK private club outing here. Gorgeous weather and great times with Johnny, Steve, and Ron. Pace was pretty typical for these events, around 5 hours from first drive to final putt. We stopped at Jack’s Den to pick up lunch and the on-cart ordering system makes it quick and easy, and the food is good and affordable. All club staff I encountered were great.
Conditions are good, highlighted by fast, firm greens. They were very smooth and quick, and even well-struck full shots took a bounce before stopping, and shorter shots and chips were very difficult to get any bite. The 8th green had some bare spots and curiously, they opted to cut the hole very near those areas. Fairways had good coverage of dormant bermuda but were thin in many spots, providing very little cushion under the ball and putting a premium on a clean strike. Rough was a little longer but not overly penal. Tee boxes and bunkers were both good, not great.
I really like how the course layout gains momentum throughout the round. The first three holes are generic, housing-tract holes (although 2 & 3 are both really tough par 4s), then the interest level amps up for the rest of the front nine. I think the course shines brightest on the back nine, though, and the whole back nine is fun and beautiful — 10, 11, 16, 17, and 18 are all standouts. All in all, a really great day and definitely recommended anytime you get a chance to play here.

Played several times recently. POP good, got around Monday in around 4H on a packed course. Weather conditions were excellent, 75, partly cloudy and not overly windy.
The course is in very nice shape. Greens smooth, firm and medium fast. Holding better than usual here, actually stopped a few irons recently. Tees well maintained. Fairways lush with a few spots that look like the Bermuda is trying to take over from the winter rye. Rough mostly clumpy, dormant Bermuda which usually produces iffy lies. Sand traps immaculate.
Customer service excellent. Nice restaurant on site. Practice facilities very good. Good GPS on carts on a very spread out, almost unwalkable layout. Highly recommended.

Course continues to be in very nice condition with most nights around 50 and most days around 75. Played several times this week in a 1-2 club wind and good POP.
Tees and fairways lush and well maintained. Sand near immaculate. Rough mostly dormant Bermuda. Lies can vary from looking like it was teed up on a tee box to sitting down so much advancing it with a longer club is unlikely within a small area.
Bermuda greens are excellent. Smooth, firm and medium fast. Chips w/o spin downhill may not stop until they reach the other side fringe. Almost no ball marks, putts roll really well.
Restaurant good for a golf course. Customer service excellent both inside/outside the club. Practice facilities and the GPS on the carts both excellent. Men's lounge nice place to have a meal or get a drink with numerous big screen TV's in a friendly atmosphere.
I previously commented on what IMO was the over reach and heavy handed approach of a few employees and volunteers here. Someone must have listened to my detailed critique with numerous examples I had witnessed others be subjected to on the club annual survey. At least in my presence, the few that were going overboard are much more customer service and make the guest feel welcome oriented. Nice and welcome improvement in one of the few complaints I have had about anything in my 4 years here.

Early morning weekend round in 4.5 hours. The staff is always really great here but other than the carts that's about it. We had not played here in quite awhile after the last visit. The practice facilities are adequate and located close to the clubhouse. The carts are probably the most comfortable of any I've ridden in recently. They do have GPS which is helpful for newbies and fairly accurate. The tee boxes were all thin, shaggy and surrounded by clover. The rough is little more than huge spotty sections of six inch long clover and weeds. So Sad. If you could find a ball in the stuff you would not be able to hit from it. The fairways were thin and weed filled with sections of clover everywhere from start to finish. The gophers have taken over sections of the fourth hole and were in action as we teed off. There are many fairways that you would have to move your ball on to find any grass. The clover in the fairways would hide balls which found the thick healthy rabbit food. The traps for the most part were fairly well groomed but lack sand and were wet with large pebbles. You had to remove your ball from many that were impossible to play from. So Sad. The greens which years ago were so nice have continued their decline as well. There are section of bare spots on several holes which your putt cannot roll through? The old cup placements on a few holes are craters where you cannot putt across. The bumpiness and speed coupled with the massive amounts of poa present on every green is frustrating to experience. Obviously the maintenance crew is understaffed and the course conditions ARE REALLY suffering!!! They have kept rates very reasonable for the local area but with the conditions not worth the rates. SO SAD
Haven't been to RSJ in about 8 months. I swore I would never play there again after abysmal conditions and increased prices. I'm happy to report that they've thrown quite a bit of money into the course and was pleasantly surprised how much the conditions have turned around! Tee boxes were incredible (compared to what it was), fairways had much better coverage (still some bare spots), rough had lots of grass (they growing it out, so it's a little hairy right now), the fringes were all nice, the bunkers have all beautiful new white sand, and the greens were immaculate! New owners have done a nice job making this fun track more enjoyable to play! Much improved!!
Paid $70 in the afternoon (2pm start) out of desperation for a round without driving too far... kinda regret it. Conditions still not worth the price, many bare spots or funky lies in fairway landing areas and crummy bunkers are the norm. Rough is grown to a couple inches but some holes have a gopher hole problem in the rough. Greens are great, but worth the price? Methinks not. Managed to get the front 9 done in about 2.5 hours, the marshal found us on 4 tee and recommended just going off 1 again instead of waiting more on the back 9, so I split from the threesome I was paired with and got another 6 holes in before dark. Hate to support these prices but that's Saturday golf for you. Biggest joke here might be the $50 rate for 9 holes.
First out on the last day of pre-6 AM tee times for awhile. No wind and it seemed warmer than it was to start. A day that required a stop at the turn to adjust to lighter layers. Frost just on the taller grass slopes and the greens freshly mown and smooth.
Having played Silverado Wed. play in down rules, I did so here too. Had no un-playable lies anywhere through the green. Well maintained and at $43 walking superior to it's neighbor nearby with $79 riding rates.
Greens great as written. A few marks very putt-able and fringe areas nice.
Fairways coming into spring. Dry offering roll out.
Rough enough to stop the ball easy to advance for the most part.
Bunkers machined and darker dirt over firm base.
That's it just wanted to comment on the better than most in the area of a good value imo.
Recommend at $ Kudos to CourseCo

Got out today in a foursome in which I was invited to play, with a 10:00 am start. The course conditions overall were pretty nice with the big exception of the punched and sanded greens. Did I know about them because of the GK alerts? Yes, from early in the week. And as soon as I found out, I reached out to my hosts to let them know, suggesting they check with the course and see if they wanted to reconsider. They did call the course and whomever they talked to minimized the extent of the aeration to the point of suggesting "they should be fine by Friday". They were not, they lied and an upscale facility like Industry Hills should do better. When I saw the first green —medium sized, sand-filled holes and a topcoat of sand over the entire surface — I elected not to keep my score for handicap submission. We still had a nice time, but this goes as black mark against their customer service in my book. We might still opt to play if we know the greens will be rough, but give us an honest choice when asked directly. I was not aware of any discount either.
All that aside, with the snow on the mountains and the post-storm clouds, the views were excellent.

After a six year hiatus from playing the south course I looked forward to returning.
On a day that threatened rain but turned out cloudy with filtered dun at times mid 50's
Second event of the NCGA Senior Series tour a handicapped year long points battle for old timer golf supremacy in NorCal held at various courses and different scoring formats. This one a shotgun start Individual Net Max.score.
Course overall is in good shape and consistent with other reviews over the years. Mine were from 2019 & '18 and the others hence for the most part could be repeated now. Kudos to the grounds crew.
Greens were good firm and even high wedge shots left only dime spot marks and rolled out. A low pitch or chip with spin (not me) would check on the second bounce most times. The collars and approaches firm enough for my game close to the ground using the contours.
Great shape and color contrasts to the fridges and rough areas pleasing to the eye.
Fairways cut tight and the contrast dark one way light the other got high rating marks.
Rough beside fairways and beyond thick and penal. A few ball searches required. One loss.
Bunkers light white sand private club / pro level quality and where I should have practiced prior. Would have possibly helped the score. The ones I faced were deep in futile attempts to escape.
The bad / sad (hopefully grown in and gone B4 U GO!) Tee boxes
A tee box renovation project is in it's final stages.
For play this day were provided a modified yardage sheet for 6 holes unique to our day and a note to enjoy it, and the complimentary infamous burger dog and fountain soda provided at the snack shack.
Back 9 ; all shortened holes with 5 teeing off mats (octagon 3.5 foot grass with no base)
not stable and my lefty partners ball would wiggle on the tee in his back swing. NOT ideal!
Front 9 ; 4 shortened holes and only one off the mat.
Off the mat = on newly laid nice sod in the middle of the most forward flat tee box.
*opinion*
With the North course adjacent I think a better solution would have been to incorporate one of those 9's into the tournament play. There was also noisy tree maintenance on a large oak going on by outside contractor on the second hole. not my parade and no complaints. But why my rating was so low in this important area.
Still recommend. Look around for Johnny.

I have to start this review by saying, I’ve been organizing multiple events at the Spanish Hills Club since 2022, what was already a great experience is now an expectational experience from event organizer/player's experience. I run 100+ players events and all my outings at this club have been sell outs. If you’re an event organizer, or just someone considering joining or playing at the club, read these reviews (and mine below), check out the photos posted. On the right side our Spanish Hills Club page, I have their current Golf Outings/Events contact.
Teed it up on Monday, 3/3 with GKer rgm2525, Bob and Pat. The course is in super shape, greens smooth, holding shots running medium/fast. Fairways, full lush coverage, firm with the ball sitting up. Rough, full lush coverage, already coming out dormancy is mostly green and beautiful. The rough cut down this time of year but come Summer, it gets thick. Tee boxes, level, lush and again well groomed.
From an organizer’s perspective on the event day, the cart staging area is fantastic as is their staff in assisting. There is a short walk down to the range and lower grill (food is delicious). They also provide a shuttle going back and forth for convenience. The recently renovated clubhouse and facilities are grand. Our players always feel like they are having a special experience.
On a clear day at the Spanish Hills Club, I always marvel at the stunning views. Check out the photos I just posted.
Thank you EVERYONE that comes out to my Greenskeeper.org Private Course Events in collaboration with Vivid Golf (owned by Golf Moose). Love seeing GKers attend these :)

Got out today before the rain. Course is continuing to improve as witness to the ongoing maintenance and condition of the course. All tee boxes have been mowed and are very playable. Fairways continue to fill in and are providing great, good, better lies and very good roll out. Traps are kept cleaned and are playable and some (not all) are learning to use rakes. Not much rough to deal with and what there is is playable. Greens are in very nice shape at the moment (so don't aerate them please) and chip/putt extremely well with decent speed and players and maintenance seem to do a good job repairing ball marks. As always great customer service from the shop, cart barn and maintenance employees.
