Visually beautiful course with wonderful views from many of the tees. Front nine is challenging with several carried over ravines. Back nine easier with few tree and water only on 18. Greens are very firm, very fast, with some contour. Some traps have good fluffy sand, some have harder, grainier sand. Some wet spots on fairways and first two hole and 18 were cart path only.

Arrived today at 7:00 am for a 7:50 tee time. Check in as always here is smooth and quick and today was provided with a complementary warm up bucket of 30 balls free of charge. (MORE ON THIS TO COME) Getting down to the range I could instantly see that the grass practice area was closed for ongoing reseeding. Several others were on the mats so decided to give those a go. There not the greatest in condition but far better than many I seen at other courses, adequate for the purpose of warm up.

The practice green is in beautiful shape, and rolling about a 10.5 so was excited to get onto the course and putt some med fast greens. My only complaint about the practice green was that only 5 pin placements had been punched and they were all very close if not punched together making a good warm up difficult with so many players in the same area.

Arriving at the starter, well it was a rather lengthy talk. Several fairways are cart path only and we were informed that Blue, combo and white tee boxes were closed to let the new grass take hold and continue its growth uninterrupted. My foursome and I were not happy about this and the starter informed us that this is why we were getting the free warm up bucket. The tees are currently playing from Red so any real discussion about how my game went is not worth the effort. Tees will continue to be at the current locations until next week according to starter.

Greens although in good shape in color and grass were horribly slow and showed several areas of unrepaired balls marks. When I say slow we are talking less than 10 and probably closer to a 9 if not lower, very disappointing and alomost troubling to me. The new seed is coming in well in the 1st and secondary cuts. Fairways are for most part good, except for the occasional swamp area and a few thin spots scattered throughout. Sand quality in average, some bunkers contain a good amount of sand and others well its mostly like hitting from a wet mix of sand for a thin top layer and mix of underlying fill.

Overall the course is in better than average shape and still a fun place to play even today with the tees being forward to the point of being ridiculous. For me I would wait until the teeing grounds are back to the normal placements.

Played today 10/24 afternoon tee off. It has been over a year since I played this course. The conditions were good. The greens were nice and rolled fast. The fairways were decent and some areas are recovering from aeration. Some bare spots on the rough. Some Tee boxes showed recent aeration. Some green side bunkers were hard compacted dirt and some had good sand. Once the rains come this course will be in great condition. Staff was friendly. Only drawback for our round was a foursome that held up play to a POP of over 4.5 hours. Didn't see Marshall speak to the group to move them along. GPS in carts were also not working.

Not much to add as to conditioning, but I did want to add that my experiences playing here, the staff is always great and very accommodating. They seem to understand the needs of the players and make every effort possible to provide good customer service.

Always enjoy playing the course. Just a beautiful setting, great views, very tranquil ! One of the features I enjoy about the course beyond the scenery is the variety of the holes and that if you play the appropriate tees, the course does not ask to do the "impossible". By that I mean, you are not forced to hit great shots to hit the greens in regulation, just "good shots"

Not much to add to the rest of the Gurus. The course was in much better shape than the last time I was here about 2 years ago. Both fairways and rough were in much better shape (In the case of the rough, it actually existed this time). Only problem I had was the upper fairway on 2 that was basically a bog 40 yards short of the green. Really takes all reward away from a risk/reward hole. Greens were pretty good outside of some splotchiness on the front of Hole 1. Had no issues with the tee boxes. It's typical canyon/hillside golf so they are small and will have some damage here and there since they can't be moved around all that much. POP was a robust 5.5(ish) with a group a few ahead of the first Guru group that was apparently the main culprit.
Still not my favorite layout in the area and doubt it ever will be but the conditions have improved greatly in the past years and it's slowly growing on me.

First thank you everyone that came out to be a part of the GK Cup 12 Final and those that participated this year! Also want to thank Eagle Glen Golf Club for hosting our GK Cup Final. I always felt it would make for a fun championship due to its challenging layout, awesome closing holes and excellent clubhouse which includes a restaurant overlooking the property. Worked out great.

I was in the last the group, the finals group, teeing off at 11:00am. They were running a little behind and we teed up closer to 11:15am. Pace of play was slow as they had a full tee sheet Sunday morning. But wait, it was Ryder Cup Sunday, oh yeah, it was over when everyone woke up, so let’s go golfing!

I thought the golf course was in very good condition. End of September can be a challenging time to find a well-conditioned golf course in Southern California due to many in maintenance, prepping for maintenance or dried out from the summer heat. So given Eagle Glen aerated their greens in the beginning of September, I was confident they would be healed and I was right. With exception to the very first hole, as I had the same feelings as Itslikeimsayin's review, the remainder of the greens were rolling moderately fast, mostly smooth and holding shots. The rest of the golf course played mostly firm, was light green, had occasional light brown/thin turf, yet overall provided a good surface to play from. I was only in a few bunkers and they were well groomed with quality sand.

After the round we got together in the restaurant to celebrate HmtGolfGuy’s GK Cup victory. I could not help seeing the patty melt Itslikeimsayin was about to dive into (there I go again referencing Mark’s review, feel like such a copy-cat! – lol) so I ordered it, super good tasty. Seemed they only had one, maybe two staff working the bar/restaurant so service was slow however professional. I’ve ate here before and always enjoy the food. If it was not so hot Sunday I would have liked to be out on the balcony looking over the course, its good dining experience.

Played in the second group out on GK Cup Final day this past Sunday. Started around 10:45 and finished around 4:20. I didn't realize pace was that slow until the 18th tee, so I guess mpisarski01, roarksown1, kassper7 and I were having a good time. Weather started off very nice, medium temp with a nice breeze, but then became scorching hot for the last 10-12 holes.

Conditions are good overall. The first green scared me a bit with quite a few thin patches, but the rest of the greens were much better. Greens were medium-fast, mostly smooth and accepted full shots really well. I kept getting fooled on uphill putts that were faster than I anticipated. Fairways don't look super lush but they played quite nice. I had good lies all day. Rough was maybe a little more ragged, but not bad. Tee boxes were fine. The first bunker I was in (on the hill behind the 4th green) had virtually no sand in it, and even my delicate swing sent my ball way too far and into the hazard. Sorta frustrating. The rest of the bunkers I was in were much better.

I had forgotten how enjoyable this layout is. I really loved it Sunday and look forward to getting back out there again soon. Thanks to Eagle Glen for hosting the GK Cup Final and thanks to Johnny for setting it up. Patty melt in the bar afterward was very tasty, too!

I will say that they were right on and this is a very fun but challenging lay out.

Customer service was spot on. Friendly faces everywhere. What to thank the bartender for all of his work after the round. He was all alone to work the bar and take care of food service and he was great.

Another Eagle Glen review here after the GK Cup final yesterday (congratulations to Ron but Matt was also awesome - what a match!). It was my first time at Eagle Glen and it did not disappoint in terms of unique layout, good, ruddy conditions and another fun GK outing with any number of characters to amuse and encourage. Much like the other reviews you've already read today, you'll come to the conclusion that while Eagle Glen in its current state is not necessarily pristine in nature, it's gritty purity and use of the landscape still makes it a most enjoyable, yet challenging experience. Sure, there are a good number of areas that will make your life miserable if you're not very precise with your shots, but that's kind of the point. And while we did find some areas that may have been better served being marked as GUR, or a few thin lies on the outskirts of the fairways, most of the course was in fine condition from a player's standpoint and provided an excellent test of golf that few could argue is not challenging yet rewarding. The first half of the course is definitely target golf to the extreme, with elevated tee boxes, narrow targets, and big elevation shifts throughout the round. By the back nine, while you're still going up or downhill a lot, the course shifts to a more straightforward and open pasture type terrain that allows for better scoring opportunities. Or in my case, more chances to lose balls into the ample native areas that line the fairways. In this sense, this place does remind me a bit of Tierra Rejada, as Perry mentioned when we arrived in the parking lot. FYI, one good thing about Eagle Glen is that almost all the OB is actually red-staked so you're still alive if you can find your ball. This is key. Greens were very nice after the first few holes and I found the speeds deceptively fast all day long. I could never really nail the speed down at all for the entire day. My playing partners - Matt, Perry and Mark - seemed to have a much better handle on them, but I would say they were feeling like a 10.5-11 on the stimp at the very least. Fairway coverage was discussed before, but there are definitely lots of trouble areas. You will be punished here and handsomely if your game is off. Bunkers varied all over the place - some super fluffy, some thin and requiring a chip out. Tee boxes varied as well with many a bit uneven and beat up, but others were just fine. Luck of the draw. Cart service was around often and that was vital as it seemed to become hotter and hotter throughout the day. It was a pressing heat that zapped energy, but luckily there were also water stations on many holes as well. POP? Yeah, that was really bad. It took us almost six hours to play the round, but as Matt said, we were having such a good time that it seemed to go a lot faster. And it was really great seeing all the other GKers after the round and getting to congratulate Ron on his huge trophy haul against Matt. We got an amazing deal for Eagle Glen and thanks to Johnny for that. It was also great to see him so humbled and appreciative for the great work Alex did in putting together the funds to get the man himself to Pebble Beach for the first time. No one deserves a gift like that more.
