played last friday 7-7. First time playing the chino creek 18. The greens a little bumpy, some patchy spots on the fairway, but overall the course was decently maintained. Really enjoyed the layout on the chino creek 18 compared to the butterfield 18. Also didn't smell any manure or sewage on the chino creek side which is a big plus. Saw the cart girl numerous times as the temperature was in the 90's. Pace of play was about 4 hours.

Played 5-16-12 with our group of 15.

About as good of shape as I've seen Chino Creek. #3's green and surrounding area were damaged by an idiot neighbor who recently decided to spray weed-kill in the middle of the afternoon while the wind was blowing, but it's coming back nicely. All the rest of the greens rolled very nicely and were fairly fast.

Fairways were very lush and the good news is we didn't see a single coot! Rough, as always, was very bumpy to drive a cart through, but was cut between 2-3 inches which made it sometimes tough to get a clean hit on your ball. Bunkers are playable, but definitely not "silica-like". Tee boxes are mostly St. Augustine, so a little longer tee might be of benefit.

Customer service as always was very good, but we waited behind a slow-moving fivesome all morning who wouldn't even let the twosome behind them play through. Made our round 4:45 long which is 45 minutes longer than what it should take to play this layout. Maybe don't allow fives out until after noon? Sure would help.

All-in-all, a very good round of golf.

Played 4/09/12. Impressions - very green and generally in good condition. Course is 'scruffy round the edges' but the main components are fine. More water hazards than I expected. Lakes mean coots, unfortunately, and there were plenty in evidence. Course is adjacent to main road and freeway but noise was not an issue. Neither was the aroma from the Chino dairies. This is an old style golf course and an excellent experience for the fee. The driving range is grass (always good, although early mornings this time of year you are hitting directly into the sun). The starter was very amenable, the snack bar was fine, there were marshalls and a cart girl. I would definitely play there again.

Have not played here in so long. Forgot what most of the holes were like. Its a good layout. You can score here with good irons and putting. Course in pretty good shape. Great fairways. Always a good lie. Very playable . Rough was not too penalizing. 15-18 are tough holes. Greens rolled great. Medium to fast speed. No wind !!! Well worth the $ 29 green fee. Only complaint was all the power lines. Thanks Greenskeeper. Would not have played here. If not for the post by others.

El Prado is the poor man’s Goose Creek. The Chino Creek layout is more distinctive than the Butterfield Stage course, which basically crisscrosses a gully over and over. It’s more challenging and the holes have a bit more character as evidenced by the signature 7th par 3. With a $23 weekday walking price it’s almost half Goose Creek’s rack rate and less than half on Fridays. (For the record, though, I am a great fan of Goose Creek.) For $23 I got a course in very good condition. The fairways were lush with nary a damaged area. Perhaps that is, sadly, because the course does not get that much play. All of the courses I have been playing in the past few weeks have had mostly brown dormant fairways. This is not the case with Chino Creek. The greens were in good shape playing medium (to slow in the dampened conditions.) The rough was short and in good shape but not that punishing. The tee boxes where in fair condition, nothing to complain about .The sand could not be evaluated—not because I didn’t end up in it, I did. It was because I played a day after heavy rains and they had not received any maintenance.

Speaking of rains, I found out that El Prado lies in a flood plain. As a result of the previous day’s rains, the courses were flooded to the point where I had to start on the back nine after arriving at 8:20 am because the front 9 had flooding issues. That should be kept in mind if you are planning to come out here during/after wet weather.

Played on 1/14, and got out about 15-20minutes late. Greens were quite nice and the fairways and tee boxes were in pretty decent shape as well. If you can get over the smell, which you get used to after a couple of holes, and all the duck feces, and the few road kills, its not too bad considering the 10am twilight rate.

Knowing what to expect when you place here, allows me to be a bit more objective about things. However, my recollection is the one aspect of this course which is always positive are the greens. This is not to say they were bad, they were just not as good as I have seen them in the past. Much slower than I recall. Otherwise the course is what the course is - scruffy, in need of some TLC, but it still provides basic golf.

Played today, $27 rack rate, 11:40 tee time. Round took about 4:15. Starter got us out about 15 minutes early. You get what you pay for here...I wouldn't want to pay more to play here, but felt fine about the price I got. The tee boxes were shaggy but mostly level. Fairways were good with a few unkempt areas, but mostly the lies were fine. The rough was bizarre...it didn't look or seem very thick but I lost five, count 'em, FIVE balls in the rough today! Greens were not consistent, mostly really bumpy and slow but a few quick, smooth ones. Wasn't in any bunkers today but my playing partners mentioned that they were kind of firm. Don't wear your nice shoes, the course is covered in coot poop. Lots of ball, club and shoe cleaning necessary. I like this place for a last-minute, cheap round. Don't expect too much and you won't be disappointed.
