It's been a while since I last played here, so was looking forward to my return. I confirmed it was NOT cart path only, although there were a few areas where it probably should have been. The fairways were very lush, with lots of grass, so there was virtually no roll, given the soft conditions. A few drives even plugged! The greens did not look all that great, but they rolled very well, so the putts seem to "roll out" further than you'd expect, so you had to be mind-full of the speed. Not in any bunkers, but they appeared well maintained and looked to have plenty of sand in them.

The staff was as always extremely nice and made you feel appreciated for your patronage. Always enjoy this course, in great shape and there are several really nice holes ! I still chuckle at the design flaw on hole #12. It's one of the few times I'm happy to be in a cart.

I played the Crossings after the rains rolled though on January 1/1/2017. The course was very wet with a lot of standing water and cart path only on all of the holes. The recent rain made the whole course a lot longer with no roll out on drives but the greens held any shot into them. The fairways were in very good shape, as they always are here, with very lush grass. I did have to move the ball a few times to find a spot without standing water. The greens were in good to shape a little on the slow side but rolling true.

Very late post after joining the other GK Gurus at the Crossings. Had a great time meeting and playing with GKer zgolfinman (“LongBall”) and playing again with mpisarski and JohnnyGK, as well as seeing other GK gurus again. I agree with all their comments as staff was great and the course was in very good condition. The lack of wind and cool conditions made for an excellent golfing day. Just some minor quibbles and/or things to watch out for:

-rough is frequently clumpy or sparse – especially around the greens, you are not sure what you are going to get – an open chip/putt, bare ground, or clumps behind or next to the ball

-greens seemed to me to be inconsistent from one to the next in terms of firmness – one can be receptive with a sizeable divot, and the next releases 15 to 20 feet

-some greens had areas that looked like a raised pattern rug - the grass had a scattered bushy appearance. Johnny attributed it to quick growth around the aeration holes, but it looked more random than that to me. However, it didn’t seem like these areas rolled any differently than others.

Overall a very fun round.

Had a great time on Thursday playing The Crossings at Carlsbad with fellow GK’ers mpisarski01, dconnally and zgolfinman (aka Broadway Bob because all his drives are right down Broadway). Also joining in the GK Review Guru visit and great to see were sbarajasjr, dethman, kg1791 and leef2020. It was a cloudy day so unfortunately the pictures did not come out well. Guess we got to go back there soon! Darn ;) Great layout, great facilities, delicious food (had lunch and dinner there) and excellent service. Conditions of the course were great. At first, being spoiled by the bright green grass from my NorCal GK Review Guru visits last week, I was concerned I’d be taking step down, but the course was very green by Southern California standards. The greens rolled true, moderately fast, and held shots. There were some odd instances on the front 9 on a couple holes where the greens had an almost ripple looking grass growth, very hard to describe, but it did not affect putts much. The fairways were excellent. Uniform bermuda coverage, next to no thin areas, ball sat up all day and shots produces lots of spin. The rough was in good condition, cut down but in some places left a little longer to help in areas where a drive could release into a hazard. Bunkers in good shape, quality sand and groomed. Tee boxes in good shape, lush and groomed. This is a very fun layout. The green complexes are all very interesting, large, with lots of contours & bunkers surrounding them, beautifully designed and big greens with many undulations to experience. From the tee the holes present themselves very well with some doglegs, elevation changes and forced carries. I particularly liked the back nine and how it was carved into the surrounding landscape. Cool bridges to cross many times. My only negative with the layout are the many power lines in sight but it was not deterrent to me playing the course. POP at 4 ½ hours. Excellent GPS in the golf carts. I highly recommend playing The Crossings at Carlsbad.

played on a very nice weekday afternoon in great company with fellow gurus sbarajasjr, leef2020, and kg1791. still wondering what all the extra numbers mean. =) the course imo was in good to very good condition. i loaded up and headed off to the range so i didn't get much of the customer service experience. sorry i stole your bag sal. range is large, you hit off a soft foamy mat area not grass, but better than the usual mats on concrete. clubhouse area is gorgeous with plenty of places to warm up and putt. got off right on time, a bit early actually. tees were well conditioned, fairways always provided a good lie when you hit them, with just enough grass to be extra forgiving. rough was hit or miss, you could be sitting up or behind a patch or two of clumpy grass but that's what you pay for missing the fairway. greenside rough was generally fluffy and friendly to me, and though there was some shaggy appearing areas on a few greens, i found they rolled true with minimal bumps and turns even very late in the day which led to a fortunate eight 1 putts (mixed in with a bunch of 3 putts). very large and undulating green complexes though, which means you have to be spot on with your distance control on your approaches otherwise you're in for a rollercoaster of a putt. beautiful layout in my opinion, i remember every hole and every one has it's unique challenges. only minor quirks were the number of cart paths significantly elevated from the green complexes, so you often had a bit of a climb back up to the cart. a few stairs might be of help here and there. and the one par 5 on the back 9 which requires the marshall to be a spotter due to the blind tee shot, that's just odd design. still i definitely will be back and am determined not to donate any more balls to that damned ravine in front of 18 green. recommended. thanks johnny again for setting it up, sorry i wasn't able to hang around longer.

Played in the GK Outing on Thursday (first time at The Crossings), met some new GKer's, had a great time! A lots has been said already but I'll add a few more comments. First, let me start off with customer service, excellent from the guys at the bag drop, the Staff at/on the course, cart girl and guys at the finish of the day. POP: 4 1/2 hours. Great practice areas; short game area, driving range and putting greens. Greens: very challenging especially if you were on the wrong level. A little bumpy at the end of the day but that's to be expected. Fairways: probably some of the better conditioned ones I've played recently. Good to see the players here filling their divots. Rough: 1 to 3" high, a little thicker around the greens which caused me some chipping problems. Tees: good condition. Traps: no report as I avoided them :-) I think the back was more challenging than the front as my score indicated. Local knowledge is very critical. Look forward to coming back soon.

Played in GK Guru Group with Lee, Sal and Kalvin. Great group of guys. I really enjoyed this course. Some holes it's "tee hit high and let it fly" and others you have to play it safe. It is a second shot course to me because of the greens. Some greens were flat while others have a couple of tiers to putt over and down and around. I really enjoyed that . A couple of holes I felt like I needed a Sherpa guide to help me get back up to the cart. I need to get in better shape. I can't really add much to the conditions of the course, Sal and Lee hit it spot on.
Very nice clubhouse and saw the beverage cart girl several times. Very friendly staff.

Had a great time yesterday with the Guru's out at Crossings. This course has quite the difference between each 9. The front nine is generally open with generous landing areas and not a lot of trouble to find. Then comes the Back nine where there are some forced carries and a lot of OB/Lateral Hazards. The only hole that I have a problem with is hole 13 its a medium length par 4 with a green that on the left side has OB 2 ft from the green it self. I landed on the green and with the firmness of them one small bounce and it was OB. Not quite the way I wanted it to go.

Not much to add to the conditions from the previous reviews. Green were medium fast and firm. A few has some extra growth coming from were the punch holes were which made for a few bumpy putts. We only saw this on 2 or 3 greens.

Fairways good coverage and conditioned. The few that I hit were nice lies not to soft not to firm.

Sand- I was in one trap and the sand was decent of course I could have put a better swing on the shot but hey thats golf

Rough- The rough is a mixed bag of good to bad with generally uneven lies which is the way it should be. It looks like they are experimenting with tall Fescue grass on a few holes. Especial left of the green on 7. it was probably a foot deep and no chance to find you ball. It leave you nowhere to bail out on 7 due to the waterfall on the right and tall fescue on the left.

In You should play this course as it is very scenic and challenging. I know the price is steep but this was the most expensive public course ever built when constructed and that is to be expected in the area that it is. Also I recommend the steak tacos from the restaurant

Had a chance to play with Sal, the previous reviewer (sbarajasjr) on 27 October, along with kg1791 (Kevin) and dethman (Kelvin) - 3 great guys to play a round of golf with as part of the Golf Guru series. Sal's earlier detailed review is spot on. My first time playing the course, I was very impressed with the greetings/service at the bag drop area, then the golf shop. Had a chance to meet the GM, Marketing Manager and new Head Pro. All seemed very nice. The head pro seems like a great guy. Along with the starter, cart girl, and several marshals on the course, and 1/2-way house, we were very well-attended to prior to and during the round of golf. First-class operation. Great looking clubhouse, nice putting green and practice area, too. Tee boxes were mostly level and easy to get a nice, grassy spot to tee it up. Really liked how the ball sets up in the fairways. A few times, my ball did end up in sandy, repaired divots - a good sign that other golfers are taking the time to repair their divots. Didn't really care for the rough, however. It varies throughout the course and was thin in some spots, clumpy around the greens and other areas you could end up in some severely long, thick stuff - good luck with it! But, it was a fun adventure with some shots I've not had the pleasure of hitting before. I really liked the greens. Mostly smooth and true, but tough to read at times. Only real issue were a few greens had a subtle texture/bumps that resulted in some bumpy putts. We noticed this on a handful of greens. Perhaps the blades of a few mowers need sharpening. Otherwise - they were mostly fast/very fast, with some slowing late in the day. Many greens have severe undulations, multi-levels and are definitely a strong feature of the course. I normally have about 31 putts per round. Today, had 38, but still felt I putted not too badly. Greens can be a bit large, so long, fast putts going up/down/around the undulations was a bit of a roller-coaster ride at times. A nice challenge and good fun! Our cart had a great GPS system with color touch-screen. Best I've seen. Gave measurements to hazards, green front/back and to the pin. Also let you tap a point/target on the hole to see how far it is to that point, and then the yardage for the following shot to the pin. Rest room facilities well-placed out on the course - important for an old guy. We finished a bit before sunset in just under 4 1/2 hours I think. The guys in the pro shop said they round people up and off the course pretty much at/just after sunset - good to know if you're playing late in the day. There are a number of elevation changes on a number of holes (some blind shots) and the course overall, which results in a very picturesque setting for the round of golf.
