Took a trip up the Central Coast for my birthday and played La Purisima on 7/03 with my wife. The greens are fast and in excellent shape. The fairways for the most part were in good shape, there were a handful of brown patches on a few holes, but not a big deal. The rough here is thick and nasty. If your ball isn't sitting up, you're going to have to muscle the ball out. The sandtraps were disappointing, as I was in a few greenside bunkers and they were real compact, almost concrete like. Tee boxes were hit and miss, probably more neglected on some holes than they should be. The pace of play was a little under 4 hours, we passed up a slow 4-some and didn't see another group throughout our round. This course has a new owner and I hope he has the wisdom to keep it a quality course in the Central Coast area. A couple minor turn offs were there is no cart girl and the restaurant is closed Monday thru Wednesday...So bring a sandwich and plenty of liquids. Also, we were playing midday and on one of the holes a greenskeeper was watering the green as we were playing the hole. It was like a river running through the green and we couldn't even play a 2nd shot. Bad timing, I guess. Lot of tractors maintaining the course which was at times distracting, but again it could've just been the time of day. We got a great deal, and the course is a beast, to say the least. If you have never played here before, get an App that details the layout, because there is no GPS.

Played 6-10 as a single teed of first round at 7 done with second round at 11:15 so pace of play was pretty good. Course is in great shape especially the greens firm, fast, and smooth. fairways nice with a few areas being repaired from coot damage mainly number 2 by the lake. rough in good shape 2-3 inches sometimes a little longer around the greens. sand is thick and heavy and in great shape. tee boxes in good shape except for #3 the par three always thin and uneven. course has been sold and new owners took over on 6-11.

Played 36 over Memorial Day weekend as part of a four-day golf trip. Course was in good shape and POP was great. Very windy all day, but particularly in the afternoon. It made a tough course too tough for our group, but we had fun nonetheless. We rode, but walking this course would wear out a mountain goat. We were told that the place is in escrow, and that the new owners plan to fix it up a bit, like paving the cart paths.

Difficult to be objective because this is one of my favorite courses. The greens did not look good, but they rolled great. Since I played first off, still a lot of moisture in the greens, so not as quick as they would be later in the day. With warm temps and 25+ winds tomorrow, these greens ought to be a real challenge for the US Open qualifier on Wednesday. Fairways were at times a bit suspect, but very playable. Otherwise the course was very nice . The staff was fantastic. 240 miles from home, otherwise I would play here a lot, even though the course kicked my butt today.

played 36 on may 4th with fireballa and his buddy. golf course is in really good shape right now. tee boxes level and in good condition except for #3 which needs leveling. fairways in great shape lies are close to perfect. rough is between 2-4 inches not to difficult to hit from but some timesthe ball will settle down to the bottom. sand traps in good shape heavy firm sand easy to hit out of. one of the best parts about this course are the greens alittle firm and rolling medium fast. its so nice to putt on greens where the ball rolls true without any bouncing. the wind always picks up here mid morning which brings an added challenge to an already very tough course. this is a must play course and with the shape it is in well worth playing.

Was first one off this morning walking for $50. This is the 3rd time I have played here and wanted to come back before it may close. This is one of the finest courses in all of southern California for conditions, value, and layout. I played the back tees and found much success taking my medicine on some holes and playing to the wide part of the fairway even if that mean't not taking driver on any par 5 and therefore not having a chance to hitting the green in 2. The course was designed to play a certain way and if you try to overpower it with driver you are bound to make some very big numbers. The tee boxes were all lush and level for the most part. The fairways were like carpet and provided fantastic lies all day. The rough was lush as well but was cut shorter than I remember. Didn't really have a very nasty lie in the rough all day. The bunkers had plenty of fluffy sand and raked well. The greens were the best part of the course!!! The best poa greens I have ever played on, so very smooth and quick. I would come back more often if I didn't live 2.5 hours away.

Made the drive to LP this morning and was glad I did. Conditions in recent reviews are spot on, the course is in excellent shape. The only knock, other than the crowned tee boxes on #3, is the unrepaired fairway divots which my ball found a few times (rub of the green). Greens are firm and semi-quick, not over the top like it can get in the summer, but you need to have the correct speed or it's going well past the cup. I walked it for the first time today ($39 internet special), manageable but the legs knew they had a workout at the end of the round. POP around 3.5 hrs as a three ball. To echo longball23's comment on the rough here: BRUTAL. Good Lord, I had two that all I could do was hack at it with a sand wedge and pray. The mowers were coming out on the back nine which turned 5" deep rough into 3" deep rough. I could talk about this course all day, but the best suggestion I can give is for you to come out and play it. A true test of golf in every aspect. Flowers are blooming and everything in the surrounding hills is green, and what a beautiful drive up the coast. Just remember: you simply cannot let your guard down or miss hit a shot at this course or you'll pay the consequences ... not a bad thing. As Kobe would say, 'Gotta put on your Big Boy pants'. Highly recommended!

Weather- Perfect
Pros- Course is downright perfect. If this course were an hour closer to home, the starter would know my birthday, social, etc by heart. This course is in amazing shape. The greens are smooth, fast, and really don't have too many divots. The fairways are smooth and roll well. The bunkers are clayish, which is simply a tough shot, not a downside. The tees are all good except number 3 which needs leveling.
Cons-.... None
Overall- I am playing in the US Open Qual here so I played 2 times, early morning and afternoon to see the wind under both conditions... I enjoyed it thoroughly. Qual is going to be a beast and I can't wait.
Final Note- Go play and support this place. Rumors were flying on the site that they were going to close it in Oct(not true)... Regardless, this course is for sale and if it dissappears it will be a true gem lost. Go support this place, get your friends together, and make a day out of it... you wont regret it

Weather: 71 degrees, 10mph breeze for most of back nine

Greens: 8.5/10 Very nice, no ballmarks, close to a 10.5 putting, some greens starting out may have been watered on first few holes. As round went on they became firmer. They held certain shots with spin like SW, but other greens had some nice firm bounces to them.

Fairways 8.5/10 Man it was so nice to play some great fairways this time of year. La P has it down they are green, lush like carpet with great lies. I know they are putting a lot into them with the US qualifier coming up in May. I can't say enough about them probably the best I have seen them on this course.

Rough: 8/10...Man it is "rough and brutal" green and lush and spongy. I hit 3 wood on 65-70% of the holes today just to stay in the fairway. There are portions of rough lining several fairways where its 3-4 inches and your ball nestles down. Lucky enough to hit 9 fairways today. You cannot play out of this rough very well, if you are in it your a for sure writing at least a bogey down on the card. Its a great challenge at this time.

Bunkers: 7/5/10. I was in 3 of them on the front nine on #2, #3 and #9 and they all contained enough quality sand in them. They looked to be firm but once you got in the sand they were in good shape.

Tees 8/10 They were lush, green and for the most part all level and in good shape.

Layout: 10/10 I rate it this way as it is such a demanding yet fun layout to me. I had 2 zero putts and played a great back nine at 1 over to barely brake 80 by one shot. Front nine hole 7 ate me up today

It was cool to see GK member Fireballa out on the course with his brother...
