I played in the Santa Barbara County Championship on the 20th and 21st and one practice round on the 19th. La Purisima is just a plain awesome golf course. My favorite track. It's hard to imagine a better place to play a round of golf as the area is beautiful and there isn't a house or street or anything nearby.

If you haven't played La Purisima it's important to know that it is an extremely challenging, but fair, golf course. When you get done playing a round here you feel pretty exhausted because there isn't a hole that you can take even a second off or it jumps up and bites you. Believe me, I got nailed for napping a couple times.

Onto the current course conditions, service, and value. The course is in really nice shape. Turns out that the course is up for sale (if the rumors I heard are correct) and you can kind of tell that there are some rough edges that are normally smoothed out when a course is in a more stable financial state. I thought the tees were a bit chewed up on the par 3s, the rough was BRUTAL and the greens were the most immaculate I have ever played. There are occasional bare spots on the fairways, but overall I'd give them a 8/10.

The people at the course were really friendly and did a great job running the tournament. The young guy working the pro shop on Friday gave me the men's club rate when he found out I was in the tournament, and that was cool. The girls in the grill were fantastic. They make great food here and were really friendly and always were smiling. After getting my butt kicked, a good smile is always welcome.

I can't say enough about this golf course and every person should put it on their list of must plays. I stayed about 10 minutes down the road in Buellton and along that route you pass four or five world class wineries and Buellton has two breweries so there isn't a lack of stuff to do away from the course.

Play La Purisima now just in case it gets sold and something bad happens. Or we can start a "Save La P" fund on Facebook or something and make sure this gem is around and pure for a long time.

Great layout with some really challenging holes. Overall conditions were good, although some of the fairways and rough had bare spots. Greens run true, at times very fast.
Sand trap quality was very good (I visited a couple of bunkers)
Not bed POP. Our twosome took less then 4hrs to complete the round.
If you choose to ride, carts are not equipped with GPS.

Several GK members played La Purisima Golf Club on Friday, September 28, 2012 in a warm up round. There were two groups, one in the morning and one in the afternoon. I played in the afternoon group with John_T and Rob1563 from Las Vegas who joined us for the weekend. The course staff was great and the food in the restaurant was very good. The course is tough and you soon learned to stay in the fairway because the rough was brutal! The fairways were a little tight due to the heat of the summer but otherwise OK. Tee boxes were level and in serviceable condition. The greens were quick and difficult to read but I managed to make a few putts. Overall the course is very challenging but interesting. I did not get to finish because of darkness and having dinner reservations with 9 other GK members in Buellton. I played 15 holes and I will be back to play the course again. Highly recommended for a complete test of your game!

Played 9-28-12. Course was in good shape. Windy conditions added to a challenging layout. This course throws a little of everything at you. Some blind tee shots some short holes to tempt the long hitters but beware, get greedy and this course will bite back. One negative is there are no cart paths on most of the course so it can get a little bumpy riding. This is a course I always look forward to playing but know it won't be easy!

played 9-28 with fellow gkers, gary, matt, and noel. teed of around 9 am with very little wind. the tee boxes where in good shape with the exception of a couple three pars. if you found the fairway you where almost guaranteed a good lie. stay out of the rough it is not that long but thick and strong and will grab your club. greens in great shape as usual smooth and fast. good sand in bunkers and easy to hit from. overall course in real nice shape. costumer service here is always a+.

played with a some GK buddies (Kviser, Stickboy, and Mike) - Great times gentlemen.

This course is a fun course to play. As long as you know going into it, that it will require you to play golf. The course is a test of your skill vs. the course vs. your mind.

You will not run into any repeat type holes on this course, it seems there is always a wrinkle that changes the entire scope of the hole. Some type of carry, down hill or uphill or over water, mature trees everywhere, wind, layout and then the greens.

Greens where in good shape, they put true and can be fast or not so fast depending on where you are on the green. It doesnt take much to get the ball rolling here even if it seems far away. The best thing to do is look at it from both sides to get a better understanding of your putt. Good luck.

Fairways were in good shape, nice and lush and waiting for you to hit them. They tend to give you some visual issues when looking down the fairway from the tee boxes. What is down there? is a question asked alot. Fairway bunkers and trees are in your line of sight as well as water. Makes it tough to figure out where to hit the ball.

Tee boxes were in good shape as well. Staff is great and the overall experience of the course will keep you coming back for more and more. It is a difficult course that can get evn more difficult. (impossible open) - however, once you play it you will want to come back for more.

Downfall is that it is too far away for some. But golfers love to travel.

Played on Friday, 9/28 at 2:30 with a group GKers, including JohnT, Audac1ty, and sr129 in our foursome. A great course that definitely tests your game. Conditions were great. Tee boxes were mostly level. You had to look for a clear spot on the Par 3s, but that is expected with a later tee time. Fairways looked good and offered good lies. The fairways seemed very narrow in some areas, so you had to be accurate. I saw plenty of the rough, which was long and hid the ball well on most holes. Somewhat inconsistent, as a few holes the rough was less damaging. The greens were awesome! Fast, firm, with little damage.

Overall, an excellent course that lives up to the difficulty it's touts on the sign as you walk up. With that in mind, plan on a 4 1/2 hour round. I can't imagine walking this, with the amount of elevation change, but that may be less painful than bouncing around while off road in a golf cart (there are very minimum cart paths). Worth the trip to test the game.

This is a golf course for avid golfers, a golfer's haven, and definitely what golf was meant to be. The layout many golfers look for. It is carved onto its natural terrains. Many of its greens are designed for accurate approach. . . a very cool test.

Don't want to forget their small grill's fine and essential breakfast/lunch need prior to going out. The facility is nice and clean with large portion servings of some delicious simple food (American food).

The golf course's greens were in great conditions, it rolled smooth and were nice and tightly fast. Their fairways were just fine and rolled good. The roughs were ok and some areas maybe suffering from earth digging animals. The bunkers were fine and had good sand quality through the few I was in.

Together, I was very happy and were lucky as well to have gone out with friends who displayed some superb shot making and showed me how this course were meant to be played: longball23, RGM2525, & lotrgolfer48. It's easy to appreciate a golf course of this caliber with friends who can play well.
