Back to one of my very favorite courses. Always a treat to play here. Stacie in the pro shop is simply the best ! She is actually one of the reasons I enjoy coming here, She is so pleasant, friendly, and accommodating. I wish all pro shop staff could be as professional and easy to deal with.

Greens were the highlight of the course. Rolled well, receptive and just quick enough to keep your interest. I have to admit that there were many more "scruffy" areas than I am used to seeing here. Bunkers had sand, but without rakes, it was guess as to what kind of lie you'd draw. Rough was inconsistent, but playable.

It's just hard not to enjoy this course. If you strike the ball solidly, it is very doable, but if you're "off" the course quickly exposes you and the score soars. Just as it should be !

Played 7-6-20 as a single walking in a little under 3 hours for $38. Not much has changed from my last round here, tee boxes, fairways and rough are all about the same. Greens still in real good shape... Continue »

Played 7-6-20 as a single walking in a little under 3 hours for $38. Not much has changed from my last round here, tee boxes, fairways and rough are all about the same. Greens still in real good shape and real nice to putt on. They have cleaned up the bunkers pretty nicely, I was in one greenside that was still a little thin but still very playable. Great customer service as always.

Played 5-11-20 early morning walking as a single in about 2 1/2 hours. Tee boxes were in good condition with nice coverage and mostly level. They are leveling out the white/blue tee box on 17. Fairways were in good shape with nice lies and decent roll out, with some minor bare spots. Rough was in good shape not to long and fairly easy to hit from. Bunkers are in bad shape right now, but they are going to bring in a company to repair them soon. They have filled in three of the church pew bunkers on the left of 7. Greens were in really good shape, semi-soft and rolling very smooth at medium pace. Overall course is in good condition and always fun to play.

Played today. POP a great 4 hours. Fantastic. Even the drive was great because no cars. Arrived 1 hour early for my tee time. Glad I did. GM says they are putting 100 + a day out on the course (7 days... Continue »

Played today. POP a great 4 hours. Fantastic. Even the drive was great because no cars. Arrived 1 hour early for my tee time. Glad I did. GM says they are putting 100 + a day out on the course (7 days a week). And it is only allowed to stay open from 7 to 5. Walk or ride (senior rate w cart $65 walking $58) so ride, unless you are in good shape at the present time. If they had charged me more I would have been equally as satisfied. All the usual Wuhan virus precautions are being applied to playing conditions. One exception. Flagsticks are in with foam circle in cup and that helps one find where to hit to the green. I know most of you already know what the rest of them are. Played with 3 local gentlemen and it was a wonderful, sun filled beautiful day on the golf course. I will not rate the course because the bunkers are terrible, due to being unable to rake them + last weeks rains added to the damage. But tee to green (and they were fantastic) it was just in wonderful shape. Customer service - everyone is just terrific. Even though this was just one round in over a month? What it did for my mental health is outstanding. I know exactly how everyone feels not being able to play golf. If nothing changes in my area, I will be going back to L P for more golf very soon. And I understand that there are other courses in the area open, in addition to SLO county courses. I suggest a mental health road trip to all you GK members. I even noticed that the P Soup Anderson motel was open, in case you don't want to come home right away LOL. BTW it is very hard to book online. Call the course to book, much easier.

Conditions were a mixed bag, tee boxes mostly even, fairways had great coverage with no bare spots. The sand traps were awful! The sand was packed down and hard, some of them were eroded. The greens on the other hand were amazing! Very smooth and really fast, they didn’t hold shots well. Probably 9-10 on the stimp. If they fix the sand traps the course would be wonderful...

Played 3-4-20 mid morning with Alex326 playing in a little over 4 hours with some minor waiting on the last 6 holes. Tee boxes had recently been punched and sanded but they were still mostly level except for a few mainly the middle Tees on 17. Fairways were in pretty good condition, decent roll out with good turf and nice lies. There were a few areas that they were working on that had been roped off. Rough was in good condition, 2-3 inches along fairways and around greens but getting a little patchy the farther out you got. Was in one greenside bunker that had a decent layer of sand but was very wet, and one fairway bunker that was in good shape. Greens were in really nice shape, rolling medium pace, smooth and semi-soft. Overall good conditions that will probably get better as spring rolls around. Highly recommend playing.

I finally made it out to La Purisima Golf Course today. I’ve been trying to coordinate a round here for some time and finally got to experience the “tough” but fun course. The track sits in a remote hilly locale that makes for a peaceful setting as you are removed from civilization. It’s just you and the golf course.

The layout is a ton of fun with a number of dog legs and hilly terrain to negotiate. I had RGM2525 to help navigate me around the course which was a big help as there are a number of blind shots. For the long hitters there are a handful of corners to be cut making some great risk/reward holes. We had it good in that the wind didn’t really kick up until the last few holes.

Greens were great all around. They rolled true at a nice medium to medium fast pace. Greens are average in size with some tricky subtle undulations. I got caught by “surprise” on putts on the first few holes due to not paying close attention to the full terrain of the green complex. Once I realized that I need to take a full overview look from multiple directions, I found the greens to be very predictable (both in speed and direction).

I didn’t find a whole lot of fairways today, but I heard they were in normal “winter” condition. Decent enough that no complaints were generated but nothing to write home about. Tee boxes were in the process of being aerated so kudos to the course for doing some maintenance work to make the place be in top shape come spring.

I was only in one greenside and one fairway bunker. Both were fairly hardpacked dirt. Given that, I managed to escape both bunkers with decent shots so they must not have been too horrible.

The rough is a mixture of thick, take an extra club 3” grass and patchy thin grass/dirt. La Purisima doesn’t see a ton of play during mid-week so POP was fine. After the first group let us through on the first hole, we didn’t see anyone until around the 12th hole.

In addition to the elevation changes the course has a few lakes to add to the challenge and aesthetics. There are several trees on just about every hole to keep you honest, yet most holes have a fairly wide landing area.

Being that it’s a bit of a drive for me, I’m not sure when I’ll get a chance to play it again, but certainly I’ll be back to give this track another shot when my driver decides to cooperate.

Played 11-15-19 first out as a single for $34(players club rate) walking, finishing in 2 hours and 20 minutes. Tee boxes were in good shape, nice coverage on most of them with some divot damage on par threes. Fairways were in very nice condition, mostly lush with decent rool out and some small bare spots but I never had a bad lie. Rough was about 2 inches long along the fairways and a little bit longer around the greens, very lush and mostly in good condition with some bare spots the farther you get from the fairway.Was in one greenside bunker right of 4 that had a very thin layer of sand over hardpan. Greens were in great shape, semi-soft, rolling medium/fast and smooth, just real nice to putt on. Overall conditions are real good right now. Great course in a wonderful setting that is always great to play.

Played 9-23-19 early morning as a single walking in about 2 1/2 hours for $34. Tee boxes are in okay shape, some needed a little leveling and some on the thin side but still all playable. Fairways were mostly in good shape, I would say about 75% real nice with great lies and about 25% needing a little help. Rough is mostly okay along fairways and around greens with some bare and thin spots mixed in. Was in one greenside bunker that had a thin layer of almost sand, but it was still okay to hit from. Greens were in great shape rolling smooth at medium pace and semi-soft. They have filled in the greenside bunker to the left of hole five. They had there pump go down last month and had to water a lot by hand which equates to the condition of the fairways. With the pump back up and working they should get better. Great course with a great layout and wonderful setting, a must play.
