Played the Blues (6730/72.6/129) in WINDY conditions around 70. Played for free on the RR B-Day month voucher, thanks RR! The POP was excellent, 3H, 50M walking, matched up with David, Craig & Sam, knowledgeable/fun/skilled guys to play with! The Kikuyu tee boxes are lush, mowed close and nicely maintained. The Kikuyu fairways had good coverage everywhere. More lush than thin, nice to play off of. The Kikuyu rough is mostly mowed down. Decent close to the fairways, more sketchy the farther you get from the fairways. The sand traps were filled with medium brown sand, fairly hard packed in the fairway bunkers, much softer around the greens. Well maintained even though the greenside traps were thinner than I would like to see. The beautiful dark greens look immaculate and they putted as well as they looked. Medium fast speed, firm/smooth and held iron shots well. Better not be above certain pins or you were looking at 6' coming back on putts that seemingly died at the hole. Easily an 8 on the GK scale, these greens are flat out good! The customer service is always excellent here, very friendly staff. Marshall very present and vigilant in keeping POP consistent. The Vineyard layout is not overly hilly, but it can be a challenging course to walk in the wind. Big climb from 2 green to 3 tee and it's a long walk from 13 green to 14 tee and from 18 green back to the clubhouse/parking lot. Definitely recommended.

Played the Vineyard on the morning of 5/1. I'll play out here occasionally but I've always liked the Lakes course better. Generally the Vineyard conditions are less desirable that the Lakes, but most of the time only slightly so. I have to say they've taken a turn for the worse since the last time I played. Mostly on the fairways has the conditions deteriorated. Most of the fairways are fine, relatively lush, but on most holes there are burnt out-damaged-bare spots accumulating that are not what I'm used to at River Ridge. They are only in certain areas but there were several times where I had unfair lies after great drives.

Other than that the conditions were pretty good. Tees were generally good. Cut short. Some boxes had uneven lies. I'd say on 25% of the boxes I had to re-tee to find a good lie.

The fairways were short and with good coverage other than what I mentioned above.

The greens were in very good shape, they said 11 on the stimp, felt closer to 10 but good nonetheless.

Played here yesterday, 3.15.16 in absolutely perfect conditions! Clear sky's, very little wind! (unexpected). Had a 10:00 am tee time. arrived at 8:45, had a nice breakfast burrito, Checked in. The guys in the pro shop were very, very nice. Very good CS. They asked us it we would like to hit balls and we did, (hence the early arrival, got to warm up a little) Bought the balls and went to the range to find it was closed until 10:00 am. Huh? The pro shop should have known that, so back to the pro shop and a refund. I told the starter up at the Vineyard shack to call the pro shop to tell them the situation, so they could stop selling range balls until the range was open. Oh well, on the putting green. Checked in early with the starter and dropped a couple on the putting green. Lightly sanded? Hmmmm??? After a few rolls, the greens were rolling very nicely, 9.5 even with the light dressing. Got out as a twosome and off we went! Tee boxes were all perfect, fairways were very decent, 1st cut of ruff, very manageable, then well you know the further off you go the thicker, nastier it gets! Bunkers, ( I played out of 5, two in one hole!) were raked and soft in places and a little crusty in others, Playable. We waited a little longer than was normal, even for a twosome, for a foursome of guys who looked like PGA stars and must have been trying to qualify for something?? After my buddy almost holes out number 7!, ( I mean it was 1/2 divot next to the cup, hit the pin on the bounce up and stayed right there!!) We turn the corner at 9 no snack shack! Not open, and there wasn't going to be a beverage cart? Come on RiverRidge, you should have one or the other period. We played the loop and stopped again at 11 to watch the PGA guys (just kidding, but a lot of white belts! ;) miss the Par three green when we saw a marshal. We asked about the bev, cart and snack shack and he kind of agreed with us that something should be offered. He offered to go and get us some beers or something for us and we agreed, got a Pepsi and a Diet Pepsi! How cool was that? Thank you Sirfun. Saved the day! All the greens have a lightly sanded top dressing right now. Shots held for the most part. Rolled true! Great Day... Go Play!

Posting a late review; played here just last Saturday with DKnight, utilizing the GK Coupon. The sign in the pro shop said the greens were running at 10'-6". I can say that the greens were medium fast and rolling true. Overall, the fairways and rough are showing signs of dormancy; light brownish to faded green but good to hit from. I visited a couple of sand bunkers and the sand was plentiful and in good condition with light texture and easy to hit out of. Tees (we played the whites) were decent. They were fairly level and finding a good spot to hit from was easy. POP was about 4 hours and 15 minutes. I appreciate the GK Coupon that is available to us. Thanks to Johnny and River Ridge. I think this is a great course.

Teed off at 7am Wednesday, 5/9, as a single. Used the GK Coupon without any problems ($26 M-Th walking saving me $12 off the normal rate). Thanks River Ridge and GK. Most golfers seemed to be playing the Lakes course. Played in less than three hours. The layout of the course is enjoyable with a variety of holes. The course is walkable with some up and down especially to the third tee box. The greens are undulating with subtle breaks. Water comes into play on several holes on the back nine. The greens are in very good condition. They rolled smooth with medium/fast pace and held shots. The fairways are fair to good. Mostly good coverage to winter thin with some small bare areas. The rough is on the lower side with some thin/bare areas. The tee boxes were good. The bunkers, at least the two greenside I was in, had good quality and depth of sand. The ladies in the pro shop and the starter shack were very welcoming and pleasant.

Our 3rd So Cal round was on 11/23 at River Ridge's Vineyard course. There are two courses to pick from and we just took the earliest time either offered so we could be on our way for a second round elsewhere. Because of that I cannot compare the two and I'm not sure which one is the facility's premier course. So take this review with a grain of salt! I didn't have the course pegged as a destination course and that turned out to be correct. For $51 riding, I'm not even sure I'd call it a good value either. However, the course served our purpose because it was convenient. The first thing that came to my mind after finishing up here is that the routing features a hodgepodge of holes. The first few holes make their way out to a ridgeline that has some nice views of the ocean and mountains off in the distance. These holes almost have a linksy feel to them. The next group of holes are ones that felt like they could be found in the Central Valley and aren't anything special. The final six holes play through some homes and had plenty of water in play. These seemed from a course in Palm Springs. The opening couple holes and closing couple holes, including the last (a long par 3 with an island green), are the most interesting. As a whole though, I thought the design was disjointed. We played the blue tees and the main challenge was navigating the sloping greens. I don't think I had a straight putt all day. We also had to deal with uneven lies and a few deeper than average bunkers. One nice thing about the layout is that on the non-par 3 holes, the yardages vary a lot. The conditions were kind of average except for the greens, which were in great shape. The fairways and tees were cut short, but had a mix of different grasses. The greens were quick and rolled well even though a few were being vented by the maintenance crew in front of us. They used the small tines so it wasn't a big deal, but I've never golfed the day that type of maintenace was being done.

I played here last weekend with fellow GKer, DKnight. Hard to believe I have not posted a review or rating yet; must have been a busy week. We played on Sunday, going out as a twosome at 10:26 a.m. Kind of a slow pace of play as we just hovered behind the group in front of us; however, the marshal came up to us at the 8th and said the group ahead is on pace for approximately 2 hrs at the turn. We ended up finishing the round at about 3:30 p.m., so it was about 5 hours total. Great fairways and rough, although they could be considered thin in some areas, especially along holes 6 through 12. Other than that, it was really nice. Greens were a little slower than the posted 10'-5". They rolled nice and were soft enough to hold most shots.

Out this morning 9/8/2015 due to the Labor day holiday. Played my free bday round teeing off with Nickesquire as a twosome at 7:30am walking the blue tees. POP was around 3 hrs 45 minutes and we hardly waited to hit a shot. Weather was very humid and considering we were in Oxnard I thought was very hot even by the 4th hole or so. Nothing like free golf and the course was in very good condition. Greens: 8/10---Probably the nicest I have seen Vienyard's greens. Listed at the starter booth as we made our way to hole 14 as a 10 on the stimp. Would say that was accurate maybe a little firmer. They putted smooth and were healthy looking. Only a few ballmarks needed to be fixed per green. They held irons like darts and were soft in that aspect. Something that I never paid much attention to are how big some of the greens complexes are here. You can have some 30-40 footers if you are a club short/long or so on approaches. Fairways 8/10--Very nice thick kikuyu coverage. Healthy and lush ball sitting up for the most part. Fairways do not lend a lot of roll so the course plays closer to 6800 yds plus. Bunkers 6.5/10--Was in one bunker greenside #5 that looked like dirt compacted sand but played nicely. Almost looked like the bunkers that I walked by all had wet sand from sprinklers? Tees 7/10--Mostly level semi-lush kikuyu tees in nice shape. Rough 8/10--Very healthy lusher kikuyu rough lining the fairways and greens. Chipping around the greens you really have to concentrate on ball first with spin as the kikuyu can easily grab your chipping club. Layout--strong par 4's and 3's. A nice mix of some score able holes and some tough holes. I would recommend the Vineyard course right now condition wise---one of the lusher courses I have seen or played this summer. Another note is the marshalls on both Vineyard and Lakes do a great job of keeping pace of play.

Walked the Blues (6761/72.0/129) in hot, humid occasionally breezy conditions with GDR23. POP was 3H, 50M walking, we only occasionally waited for the group ahead to clear. The tee boxes are decently maintained. The tee markers have been regularly rotated & divots patched recently, the only one that was kinda thin was #18. The fairways & rough are good overall. They both have good coverage everywhere, more thin than lush. Both have occasional drier areas. The sand traps were filled with medium brown sand, fairly hard packed in the fairway bunkers, much softer around the greens. You could tell they were well maintained overall even though they had not yet been raked today and had sprinkler runoff. The beautiful dark greens look immaculate and they putted as well as they looked. Medium fast speed, firm/smooth and held iron shots well. Better not be above certain pins or you were looking at 6' coming back on putts that seemingly died at the hole. I was impressed that the ground crew had been lightly sanding in old ball & pitch marks so the entire surface was relatively smooth/uniform. Easily an 8 on the GK scale, these greens are flat out good! While Vineyard is not overly hilly, it can be a challenging course to walk in the wind.
