Played in the GK outing on 2/24 - The outing was terrific as well as Rustic Canyon. Played this golf course 3 weeks prior to the outing and it was in GREAT condition.

However, for the tourney they pulled out all of the stops. The fairways were super, the greens were perfect and fast. Greens rolled, so you had to hit them short to roll to the hole in a lot of cases. Hard part is remembering that.

Tee boxes were in good condition as well as the rough. One of the best things about the course is the GRILL - I was in there several times during the round and after the round. The GRILLSman was the man. Very helpful, nice and hard working. After a seriously long day he maintain a smile and a great attitude.

This was a terrific day and the course was fantasitic - this is a must play course on your list. You will definitely enjoy it.

Played in the GK Casual outing. The greens were VERY firm and quick, hard to hold shots unless they were high, soft with spin. The course looked magnificant, tees and fairways were pristine. The rough is growing up after the recent rains. The aprons were moved down to the length that some fuzzy greens on other courses may be, a "putt" from 30-40 ft. off the green was like a putt on other courses.

I played this course as a part of GK outing on 2/24. The course was a bit of a drive from where I live, but the asthetics of the course, surrounded by the nature, not the rows of tracked houses as I am custom to seeing in OC, certainly made up for the time it took to get there. The course is layed out through acres of beautiful wildness, be fitting its name, Rustic Canyon, with diverse fairways, incorporating barrancas, environmental areas and dry river beds - some courses go out of their way to make it too penal with these EAs, but I thought this course was very fair. The layout is semi link style with rolling fairways which allow the balls to roll and roll and roll. I was actually surprised that I only lost one ball all throughout the round. The same with the greens, which were very well maintained but the ball kept rolling, rolling and rolling. The square footage of the apron which were as tightly mowed as the greens themselves were as large as the green, which meant that you are able to use your putter a lot more than other courses - often times, I couldn't tell whether I was allowed to mark the ball or not because the demarkation of green and apron was somewhat vague, only able to tell by the difference in color of the green vs apron. I think the trick to playing this course is to land it well before your target and letting the ball roll to where you want it to end up. All in all, a very well maintained course with beautiful surrounding - on one of the hillsides, we even saw few donkeys amongst many grazing happy cows. I highly recommend this course if you are looking to get away from today's typical golf courses built in the city limit with fairways separated by rows of houses.

Played in the GK event as well. This is a pretty course, very scenic. It plays pretty quickly. Not a lot of OB just a touch of ESA but everything is well marked. Bought myself a course guide and it paid dividends. Nice to know what you don't see and the distances were dead on. Fairways were thin but very playable. You cannot really tell the difference from where the green ends and the first cut begins. Links style course but this was not to my taste. Running up the ball was fine to the green but I would hit shots around 10 to 15 yards in front of the green only to roll up and off the green. Putting was literally on a table top. One shot on a par 3 I hit the ball off target around 10 yards, only to watch it hit the middle of the green, proceed to roll up the hill to to the right, slow down then roll all the way back towards the hole. The smallest imperfection in the green, ball or your putting stroke and you were literally off line. Greens reminded me of Torrey Pines, but not as soft. Some holes reminded me of a mini golf with these huge swails and all that you needed were a windmill or a log you would push over the hole to prevent your ball from going in. Thinking further about the course ... local knowledge is key. Pin placement is everything and honestly you had to know where to place that ball on the green. One bit of information "all putts funnel towards the main gate," I think is key here. It would have helped me figure out where my putt would end up but I only found this bit of information after my round. Having this being my first time, I would like to cut the course some slack but it was frustrating to see short puts swing wildly off line, almost comical breaks, decent approach shots literally punished by rolling off the green. Honestly, I kept my ball in play the whole round. Not one ball lost, played safe when I had to, landed on the green in regulation but I swear those greens were punishing. If the greens were softer (not a lot, just a little) or just a bit more receptive I know my play would have been a lot more acceptable. Admittedly, this is my first time playing here and the views were tremendous but honestly, those greens really needed an exorcism. At the beginning it was funny, towards the end of the round simply frustrating.

Played in the GK tourney on 2/24/2009. This is one of the courses that I play often. The tees, fairways and greens were all in good shape. Some tight lies in some fairways but for the most part great conditions and at this time a ton of roll. The greens were firm and made you think about your approach shots. Even a wedge without proper spin or landing the ball before the green was not going to hold. Different mindset going in. I thought they putted very true as I saw 3 of my three foot putts miss(lol). Most of the bunkers at Rustic are waste bunkers and don't have as much sand as a normal greenside bunker might. The staff inside the resturant, inside the pro-shop and around the facilities were great as usual. The GK staff did a good job with the tourney and I thought the pace of play was very good. The course offers 4 sets of tees for everyone and has beautiful views(especially on the back nine). The back nine is more wide open and longer where the front nine is a little tighter. Rustic in my mind is still the best value for what you get.

Played in the GK outing and the course is great. The greens were smooth, fast and with a lot of undulations. You can easily 3 putt every hole. I learned a little too late to putt from the fringe even putt from 10 yards off the green. If you don't have a high ball flight and can't land it soft, hit your shot short of the green and let it roll to the pin. The tee boxes are in great shape. The fairways are lush and I loved how much roll I got from my tee shots. The rough was thick but not difficult to get out of. I hit my 5 wood without a problem out of the rough. The bunkers, well don't land in one. Most were very difficult to get out of. From what I saw one guy do, it took 4 shots to finally get out of one. The staff was great and very friendly. Overall it is a wonderful course and I will be playing there again soon.

I loved this course. Greens were extreme in some cases but most were playable and fair to me. Layout was interesting especially the back nine. Conditions of course were excellent especially the greens which were smooth and fast the way I like to play. Next time I would play the blue tees for sure Whites were too short for the conditions hard and fast.I hit four drives that ran out of space on fairway where if played blues I would have been fine. Customer service was good here. Would like to thank my group for great fun and especially Paul for picking me up and dropping me off at the airport made my day very enjoyable. Best event for greenskeeper I have been to well run and timely finish pace of play was reasonable Thanks to all staff especially Johnny keep it going strong!!!

Played today in the GK Outing. What a blast. Well run and organized. Cart boys had the carts stocked with ice in the cooler and sand in the jars. No beverage cart during the week. I would hope thye change this policy during the summer.

First time playing here and I would like a second chance at it. The fairways were wide and forgiving for the most part. The greens are what really protect this course. Lots of undulations and shaved areas around the green allow you to run the ball on. Noel did this the best in our group. I saw alot of really good shots from our group and the group behind us hit right next to the pin and end up off of the green.

Greens were hard and pretty fast. Took me about 6 holes to get them figured out. I think they were fair. Make you think about which side of the fairway you want to approach the green from. And don't ever short side yourself.

BTW- My group was better than your group. Thanks for a great day guys.

The tees, fairways and greens were in excellent condition. Despite the recent rains, greens were firm and fast. Great conditions there. However, the sand traps around the greens need new sand and the rough was rather thin.
