I got a great price after 11am on Tuesday, Nov. 14, so I gave Westridge a whirl. The service was great in the pro shop … very efficient and courteous.
Course conditions were pretty darn good. Cart path only on holes 1 and 10. The tee boxes had been over seeded, so all the movable markers were at the very back of the teeing areas. Tee to green, the grass coverage was good to adequate. The bunkers I was in had enough sand in them, though the players ahead of me failed to rake their footprints on a couple of occasions (not the course's fault).The greens were in good shape, which means they are tricky to read for players who don't play here often.
I really enjoy the layout here. It's plenty long for recreational players, and
many of the holes have unique character and challenging greens. I had a couple issues with previous management here, but the current owner seems to be better. It looks like Westridge will be allowed to die with dignity, at least.
Sentimentality is a big part of the golf landscape. I suggest that you play Westridge at least once more … if you're heart is in the game.

Played Westridge on 11/13/17. Pleasantly surprised to see this course hanging on, still a fun track to play. Conditions are decent these days, greens pretty good for the most part. Sand traps were good. Fairways generally have decent coverage. It looks like they have done a lot of seeding on tee boxes. Coverage is sparse, but growing in. So you'll see tee boxes with long thin grass coming out of sand. They do have the tees set on the very back or front edges of boxes - and they obviously haven't been moved in a while. So until they determine the new grass is ready, you will find challenging conditions on the tees. That being said, I didn't have any problems playing off of them with generous use of the two club length rule. POP was fine. Started as a single at 7:15. Ran into a twosome at #5. They didn't bother to waive me through, not a big deal as I was enjoying watching their combination golf swings / karate kick follow through. Still, got done in just under 4 hrs. Hang in there Westridge! A nice course at a decent price, rare for OC.

On the strength of the previous review I ventured out to Westridge early on a Wednesday morning hoping to find that the course was 'back'. It was.

Got a nice $34 deal online at 7am, drove into a vacant car lot, waltzed into a pro shop with just a pro - and what a nice guy he was. He said the course is still down for being sold/closed next September (that's 10 more months of good golf, lads) IF everything goes perfectly - which in life and in LA tends to not be the case. So maybe another 18-24 months...who knows. Most importantly, they are taking the course seriously now and it showed.

Greens: showing traces of sand, give it a week and they will be perfect. Rolled well. Nice shapes.
Fairways: Good. Patchy but good.
Sand: Very good. fluffy brown sand, easy to glide the club through
Teeboxes: meh....but you can find flat lies and if tee boxes are your course killer then.....ok!

Went around in 3 hours, Could have gone for a $25 replay too, but decided against this time.

But, chaps, Westridge is back in the rota. And what a fine place it is on a sunny, crisp California morning. Great views, peaceful and a very fair challenge. Welcome back.

Had absolutely nothing to do today 10/25 and looked for a place to play. Pretty windy out in Orange and Riverside Counties so went inland a bit. Decided on Westridge since it has been a long time since I have played here. Have heard so many stories about this course closing but wanted to give it a go. On a warm afternoon (actually it was freaking hot) drove up around 10:00 am and got right out. Customer service was great . The starter Mario, sent me right out to the tee as a single and ahead of a women’s group. I was surprised with the overall conditions. Tee boxes were a bit chewed up but were level. Fairways had issues. The kikuyu had not fully grown in for some reason. A lot of bare spots. Sand traps were in great condition. I saw on many of the holes, maintenance was working on the sand traps. Clearly, they did a great job. Greens were in very nice condition. Not real slow or fast, about medium speed but rolled true. Forgot about the undulations on some of the greens. Tough to read. But it was nice to see very few un repaired ball marks As the previous reviewer indicated, it appears the course is going through a transition period but for the positive. It’s in much better condition than the last time I was here. I was going to head up to the restaurant to have a beer but the starter said it was closed for now. He mentioned that they hope to open the restaurant sometime in the future. Looks like improvements are pending here. Good to hear as I enjoy the layout. Let’s give it some time and see how it works out. I am not giving up on Westridge.

Having seen no reviews (and the last one ??) we took a chance on their $35 Monday special. Getting out early to beat the heat, our POP was 3 H. I have not played here in likely 1 to 1.5 years and while the conditions then were very good, conditions have changed. But not for the worse, like many rumors I have heard over the past many months? Customer service was excellent. Tee boxes were level and recently cut, so no issues; rough was thick and sticky; fairways (like many in S CA) could use a lot more green, but today they were in good shape and provided roll and good lies, 90% of the time (I have played worse recently); bunkers were nice and playable, heard no complaints; greens are good/bad, as we found a couple in need of TLC (looked like heat issues) but overall they were playable (but that was early AM, who knows how they are in the PM) and I hope over the coming months, they get better? IMO the course is going through a transition period and it appears positive in my eyes, rather than negative. I personally have always liked this course. This is not a walking course by any means and maybe that is why many don't like to play it? And IMO it is better played early morning, if possible? It is a beautiful layout in the La Habra hills, with some wonderful holes (# 4 Par 5 is a good example, along with # 9 downhill Par 5 water fronting green, to mention just 2) and good/challenging Par 3's. It is also, a stern test of golf and personal will. I am hoping management does not give up on this course and I will go back in Sept (after the heat) and check it out again.

Played 5/20 on a very warm afternoon (no water in any of the jugs). I heard a lot of interesting things about this course and why I feel its really an avoidable course at this point. Clubhouse guys and marshal were nice.

Tees: Pretty bad. Uneven, not mowed consistently. 5/10
Fairways: Some of the worst I have seen. Looks like they were aerated a month or so ago but still haven't recovered. I hit 11 fairways and can say only once did I find a decent lie. The rest were dirt or patchy. 3/10
Rough: Pretty long in places, short in others, overall inconsistent. 5/10
Bunkers: Pretty thin but playable, I had no problem in either GS one I was in. 5/10
Greens: The lone bright spot for the course. Undulating, medium speed and surprisingly consistent throughout. 6.5/10

Interesting things I heard (from the marshal):
1) Course is not being turned into homes and will remain open
2) They are putting money in hoping it will get better
3) They currently have a homeless problem with transients sneaking into the bathrooms and sleeping there. They also are stealing the water jugs.

For the 30$ I paid I would still not return unless it was my only option. The only course in worse condition I have seen recently is Riverview. Too bad, I really do enjoy the layout.

Late review. Played on 4/16/17. Went to the pro shop and the reservation made the prior week wasn't there. But they accommodated and got us out before the tournament they had.

Course was ok. Fairway was lush but choppy grass. Rough was the same. The greens were really rolling fast and true. Down hill puts were killers!

Pace of play was just under 4 hours. No one in front of us and behind us. Played a smooth round of golf (probably the first time at this course).

Played on 2/19/17 for the 1st time in 4 years. The forecast said 0% rain, but that didn't happen! Sprinkled all day on and off.

Played on 2/19/17 for the 1st time in 4 years. The forecast said 0% rain, but that didn't happen! Sprinkled all day on and off.

Before writing the review, I will be honest. This is one of my least favorite course. I played because an annual tournament that I play in is going to be played here. The last time that I played was when they had the tournament on this course 4 years ago.

The course was doing OK after the heavy storm that we had. The course was overall soft, but not soaked. The best part of the course was the green. I came in thinking that it will be long due to the rain, but all the greens were cut and rolled true. It was extremely slow due to the rain, but I did expect that to happen. The fairway was fair. A little longer than usual, but I have played in worse condition on this course (5 inch tall fairway!). Noticed that some of the holes looked like they were punched before the rain. Few holes had huge bare spots on the fairway. The sand was packed, but that's expected after the rain.

In the 4 years that I haven't played, I saw some small changes. The front and back nine were flipped (again). The OB stakes between the current 4th and 5th (old 13th and 14th) is gone. 17th (old 8th) had an wood chipped area in front of the tee box.

More reviews to come. I will play this course until June...

Haven't played this course in several years as my last experience here was rather a major disappointment. Offered a free round from one of my buddies on Sunday morning so jumped at the chance. Things here at this course are DEPLORABLE!!!!

Fairways were a mix of dead green, burnt, tight lies that included many bare areas, or ground cover weeds, and hard as CEMENT. Rough, bare or overgrown weeds was the normal to find. If you do come across grass its crisp and contains the previously mentioned ground cover weeds that seem to go on forever.
Bunkers in theory only because of the look and non-playable rock hard, little to no sand and fairly large pebbles that resemble half in inch rocks.
Greens, forget it, rough, bouncy dry, dead in several areas not just on the fringe. Made our own rule to move the ball for a clear line after the first couple of holes. Finally, customer service was eager to take your money without a mention or warning about the poor conditions.
Never thought i would be happy to see a course go but in my opinion this is a good choice. Don't waste your time or money here.
