Played in the qualifier at the Goose on Tuesday and we teed off at 8:15 and finished probably right before 1 so the pace wasn't too bad but there was quite a bit of a back up on hole 11. I thought the greens were very fast but too bumpy for my liking. Made for some interesting putts for certain. As we were on hole 3 we saw them watering the hell out of the 8th green. We were surprised that they put that much water on the green prior to the tournament. Had quite a few balls spin more than I expected. One in fact spun back probably 30 ft. I have to think the soft greens contributed to this.

Fairways were good and I don't remember any significant bad areas. There was quite a few divots out there that I hope golfers would take care of. Good rollout of well struck drives.

Rough is not overly penalizing and didn't impact any club selection.

I think I was in one fairway bunker on 12 and it was pretty soft. They all looked pretty similar so it didn't seem like a difference between fairway and greenside bunkers.

Always a pleasure playing the Goose as it is a good solid test of golf. Staff was great as expected.

Played Goose Creek yesterday (Sat 4/30) for the first time in several months, and only the second time ever -- first was sometime in 2021, I think in the summer or fall. I wasn't overly impressed the first time I played it, despite rave reviews. Coincidentally, it was more rave reviews that brought me back, and led me to think that they had made changes/improvements since my first visit. So I decided to check it out again.

Turns out, they were right. It's in great shape, in every area of the course. My ONE gripe is that people don't seem to be very good about repairing their ball marks, as there were several on some of the greens, beyond those of our group. But that's less of a criticism of the course, and more directed toward the clientele. From what I've heard, the owner(s) are raising the prices in an effort to get rid of the "hackers" in an effort to limit it to golfers are serious and respectful enough of the course to pay the high green fee.

I don't know if that's true, but when it comes to cost, it wasn't that bad. I paid $94 this time around (Saturday at 12:20pm with a cart), and while I don't remember what I paid last year (I think it was about the same, maybe $10 less and a couple hours earlier in the day), I think the course is worth every bit of $94 on a Saturday at noon. It's in excellent shape, so much so that if you put this course in Orange County or other high price tag areas, it would easily be over $100, maybe even approaching $200. Seriously, it's that nice. I'm talking Palm Springs and/or private club kind of nice.

As to the layout, it's great. Not overly long -- 6560 from the back tees (unless you get to play the "Goose" tees, which I've never seen out, and isn't on the scorecard). They label their tees with Roman numerals: IV, III, II, and I. I played the III tees, which is second longest, at 6150. From there, everything is easily reachable, and not overly challenging. Not a lot of rough to deal with, and what rough there is, is short right now. There are hazards alongside some of the holes, but the biggest hazard in my opinion is the fairway bunkers on some of the holes, just cuz they can be hard to avoid. But all in all, not too much trouble, except maybe on #18, which has water all along the right side, and which is their signature hole. Greens do have some undulation, though, so pay attention to the pin location. Also a lot of drop-offs on the edges of the greens, which causes even short approach shots to roll off, if not landed in the right spot and/or with enough spin or angle of descent.

Bottom line, go play it for yourself and see what all the rave is about! Bonus points for a good practice facility: Grass driving range (sometimes, I think, but not today), chipping green (no bunker), putting green.

Played Monday (4/25) morning with Steve (sr 129) and what a great day it was. The course is in fantastic shape from tee to green.

Tees - great coverage and mostly level. A few are difficult to get a tee into, but that is no biggie.
Fairways - perfect. Firm with great coverage. The collars around the greens were very tight and using a putter instead of chipping with a wedge was a good choice.
Rough - Only about a half inch long, not very penal. Very good coverage.
Bunkers - Was in one of each (fairway, greenside) and both and very good sand and well kept. They also have a good amount of rakes around each bunker. Example: the large greenside bunker on 17 had 4 rakes around it. Very nice touch.
Greens - A little bumpy in the early morning, but once it started warming up they became perfect. Medium fast and firm. Not many unrepaired marks on them at all. I didn't hit many in regulation so I can't comment on if they held or not.
PoP - 4 hours.
Customer Service - Everybody I came in contact with was pleaseant.
My review is just the standard of Goose Creek, making this one of my favorite courses to play.

Played here 4/25 with calligolfer on a great day for golf. Tee time of 7:10 and got out about 5 minutes early playing as a foursome. Finished right at 4 hours waiting briefly on a couple of the par 3’s. The entire course is in really great shape right now.
From tee box to the greens it would be hard to find fault with any part of this track. Only thing was that several of the tee boxes are rock hard (especially 17 ) and you had a tough time getting your tee in.
Check in was painless and we saw the cart twice. Starter and a marshal we saw were both friendly and helpfull.

The greens were just aerated last week and are still bumpy. They still have some sand residue present. Balls were not rolling true and speed was inconsistent. I predict the greens will be perfect in about 2 weeks. POP just slightly over 4 hours.

Part of the GK group that played last Sunday. Weather was nice with a little breeze. Checked in was quick and easy. Headed to the driving range and was surprised with mats. While it didn't bother me, it would have been nice to be hitting off grass. They also have nice practice greens. Carts were a bit outdated and felt it was going to give out on us during the round with rattling noise every so often. No GPS on them either.

Course was in great shape. Like the course a lot and would be playing it more often if it was closer to us. Greens were amazing. Medium fast speed and rolled true. Held approach shots well. There was 1 green that was abnormal but other than than - perfect.

18th hole is one of the nicest finishing holes and certainly can give something to think about on the tee and approach shot.

We had a great time playing in with Keith and David. Certainly fun day at the Goose.
Recommended.

Here’s my take on the course from an outing coordinator standpoint. This was a mid-size straight tee times outing of 36+ players which turned out to be the perfect size to accommodate us on the patio after play with a beautiful view of the 18th hole. Tons of fun watching players finish their rounds taking on what some consider one of the hardest finishing holes in SoCal. Don’t think I saw any birdies but did see lots of great pars. I heard compliments about the food, drink and service by our players as we hung out having a super time.

Prior to play the Tournament Director and staff did an excellent job arranging and preparing for our outing on a busy Sunday afternoon. If you ever played Goose Creek GC you know the place is pure golf with one of the best practice facilities in SoCal. It’s great that both the 1st and 10th tees are directly adjacent to the practice facilities making it easy for me to keep track of my group. Teed off in 10 minute intervals with a pace of play of approximate 4 hrs 30 min. It would have been less had our outing not directly followed another that was playing slower. Still at 4 ½ hour pace for an outing was fine by me.

Conditions of the golf course were outstanding and beautiful. Greens were fast, mostly smooth and holding shots. Bunkers fantastic with excellent sand quality. Tee boxes in very good condition lush and level. Fairways had full coverage providing great lies all day. Rough was lush, easy to play from with two cuts. My favorite part was the new deep green fringes. They look to be a perennial all season rye grass that needs some more time to get established but already is very nice. Beautiful how they define the greens. Check out the photos!

Goose Creek GC begins Spring aeration/maintenance Monday 3/28 so once it recovers I’d expect the conditions to be even better.
