Bunkers are mixed really good on # 2, wet and soupy on #6 and thick and heavy on #11. Greens medium fast mostly smooth and consistent overall. Unrepaired/poorly repaired ball marks continue to be routine for this course, even with the pro shop giving out repair tools.
Staff continues to be friendly and golfer centered.

Early am four hour round on Sunday. The staff is great even with the issues they have to deal with from time to time. The tee boxes were great with only a few a little thin. The fairways were a little damp in the low lying areas but the coverage was very good front and back. The short bermuda is forgiving on some shots if you can keep your misses online. Ha! The rough was fairly thick and pretty damp in places but you could advance the ball. The traps were thin, wet and ugly. The traps were well groomed for the most part but not on par with the rest of the course. The greens were in good shape and not real quick today - some were actually pretty slow compared to what I remember. There were a few greens with quite a few marks in need of repair. Some of the greens are also very large compared to most courses. The wildlife and somewhat rural setting of this course are great. Worth the drive and recommended!

7/9 8am tee off POP 345 with not much waiting and no pressure from behind. Lee and Larry gave recent reviews that are still quite accurate as to conditions. Fairways are quite playable but do appear a little thin in some areas but still provide good lies what with the cushion effect from the soil. Rough comes more into play around the greens and offers quite the challenge. Tees in good shape. Bunkers were well groomed, a little wet and the sand is of the heavier variety--avoid the fairway bunker on 4==has the high lip and with the heavy sand the ball tends to sit down. Greens are excellent medium fast smooth with enough slope and contour to add to the excitement and enjoyment. Staff continues to provide a welcoming and friendly experience.

Was invited out to play Arrowood by leef2020 on July 5. He found a $40 spot on their website with a 1:27 tee time. Got their early and got a small bucket to warm up and paid $6 bucks which seemed like a lot for a small bucket. The range mats were pretty beat up. Very old and hard and actually hurt my wrist on them. Was paired up with a couple of nice guys from Tucson and off we went about 10 minutes late. First time for us and was a little tentative not knowing where to hit it. Nice course over all however. Fairways are bermuda and have great roll out. The bermuda has not grown in completely on many holes and found many dry and hard areas. Quite a few tight lies. Bunkers were hit and miss. One I was in had soft, white sand while the others I was in were wet and ugly. Rock hard! Rough was not very thick and in nice condition. The greens were really nice and held most shots, but not all. If you were in the rough and hit to an uphill green, it was difficult to hold. In contrast, hitting downhill to a green was better. I really enjoyed the course layout. A good mixture of long, short holes with some doglegs. All of the par 5's were pretty long and challenging. Much nicer holes on the back 9 IMO and 3 tough finishing holes. Hole 16 was really nice but very challenging. Long downhill par 4 with a green protected by water. Windy conditions make this course even more challenging. Had a good time out here and want to give this course another try. Highly recommend! It’s a trek for me, about 1 hour and 15 minutes but you can make it a full day by playing 36 holes; Arrowood and Marine Memorial which is very close.

First time at Arrowood GC, a nice Ted Robinson Jr design. I like a number of his father's courses, so was very much looking forward to the round.

First time at Arrowood GC, a nice Ted Robinson Jr design. I like a number of his father's courses, so was very much looking forward to the round.

Played on the 5th w/Larryq2001. A bit of a mix-up with their own website booking system. Oddly, booked and confirmation sent for a 1:18pm tee time, but their printed tee sheet had us down for 1:27pm. Slowed the check-in at the pro shop and w/starter, where things seemed a bit disorganized. Things were running an additional 12-15 minutes late. Not a big deal, but glad I had my confirmation ready. Friendly enough guys, we did get out just about 1:40pm. POP seemed slow while we were playing, we were waiting throughout, w/POP at 4hrs 20mins, I guess about all you can expect on a busy afternoon.

Overall, really enjoyed the course and the layout. Thought there'd be more water, only recall 16 and 18, both very picturesque and challenging holes. The 16th green complex, with a far right pin placed behind a bunker and very close to the water hazard, is particularly gnarly to deal with on your approach shot! Found the back9 a little more interesting than the front.

Very much agree with the two most recent, mostly favourable reviews on course conditions. Fairways still showing signs of punching, not much affect on lies, but they were very dry and provided excellent roll-out, too much, really, if that is possible. Of course, one level area just short of a par3 green, was heavily watered, leaving my tee shot well short, as it rolled nowhere.

Tees were very green and level. Rough was not too long nor penal. Greenside bunker on the 1st was medium-weight sand and good condition. Was in a fairway bunker later, and sand was very thin and easy to hit an iron out of to the green.

Greens were very nice, rolling mostly smooth and medium-fast. Firm, and holding shots moderately well for level approach shots. If the approach was to a green below, they held very well, and less so for uphill approach shots. They are fairly large greens, with ample undulation. Really liked them overall.

Overall, a good day on a hot day on the course. Cart lady only came by once early, and saw her by the clubhouse at the turn, but never on the back9. Friendly Jack came by with a bucket of ice water on the 10th, and we later came across an empty ice water bucket, perhaps at the 14th tee. Became a bit of a grind in the heat. Several loos in key positions were handy.

After the round, the guys in the grill were very friendly, and in spite of just shutting down the wood-fired brick-oven, 10 minutes later, they re-stoked it and made us and another group a few $10 pizzas, which were very tasty, and went well with their $15 pitcher deal.

Looking forward to heading back to Arrowood soon. Biggest negative was the 90 minute drive from Huntington Beach (60 miles), most of the time consumed over the last 15 miles. If it wasn't for this, I probably would've bought their Palm Card on the day.

Always love to play this course. It's in pretty good overall condition right now. Teeboxes were nice and level and had plenty of coverage, no problem finding a good spot to tee it up. Fairways are just fine, they are still in transition to greening up, but I never had a bad lie and they offer some good roll. Found one bunker and it was just fine, no complaints. The greens were pretty nice. They held shots very well and putted true with medium to fast speed, no complaints here. Rough was not too penal, a little long, but fairly easy to get the club on the ball. Customer service was just fine, no problems at all. POP was not a problem, just over 4hrs on a Sunday is fine with me. Saw the beverage cart a couple of times. We used a eCert from Costco which was like $35 if I remember correctly. If you can find that deal, grab it.

Played here this morning with an 8:12 starting time using a Costco eCertificate (Paid $10 to the shop for weekends before noon). Paired with three other guys. My cart partner was a really nice guy who plays a lot and I told him about GK, so hopefully he starts posting as well. (Other two guys were nice but a little impatient with occasionally playing out of turn; oh well.) Cool and cloudy throughout the round with a little bit of sun finally breaking through the clouds on the 18th. It got pretty windy toward the end of the round as well. Pace was decent, right around 4:30.

The course is overall in really nice condition. Greens are smooth, medium fast to fast and medium firmness. Full shots generally took one bounce and held, but shorter shots ran out unless they had tons of spin. Greens are probably the highlight. Fairways might be the lowlight, even though they're not bad. They actually look great from afar, but once you're right on top of them there's evidence of recent aeration holes (doesn't really affect play, but doesn't look great) and all the fairway grass throughout the course seems matted down. I guess that's just how Bermuda plays, but it was almost like hitting off a well-worn driving range mat. Not bad at all, but just not the plush cushion I'd prefer from the fairway. Rough is generally in good condition, and maybe 2-3 inches deep. Not too thick nor penal. Tee boxes and bunkers were both great. Definitely recommended.

I played my first-round GK Cup 12 match here against Long4par on Tuesday afternoon, 6/12/18. We teed off just after 2pm on a clear, warm day with only light breezes for Arrowood. It was Jim’s first time here – the course looked great from the clubhouse area, with closely trimmed fairways and rough and sharp tee boxes. We got out on time fairly closely behind a boisterous group of 3 foursomes – I was concerned about pace of play, but we only waited a couple of times and then had smooth sailing, finishing in 4.5 hr. We played the Blue tee (6,292/70.5/131), joined by a course employee and another local who were pleasant to play with – I guess we sprayed the ball around enough that we never really caught the groups in front.

I enjoy playing Arrowood because I like the variety of holes, the course setting with lots of natural areas, condition and playability, and weather. The GK Discussion Board has had threads about the reality of the returning drought and resultant course conditions in SoCal – you can see that here, as it’s only June and Arrowood has very firm and dry conditions everywhere, with long runouts down fairways and across slopes. We’ll see what grass conditions are like in August and September!

Greens were in very good shape, rolling smoothly and pretty quick with good coverage. They were somewhat inconsistent in terms of firmness, with some approaches releasing and others sticking and backing up. Unfortunately, we saw many unrepaired ballmarks on all the greens. Whereas Arrowood previously used a red/white/blue flag system, they have gone to a 6-sector pin location format – a pin map is provided on the scorecard, and the pin location is posted on the first tee. It seemed to me that this had the effect of pushing the pins closer to the edges of the green on many holes, making approaches to these locations more challenging.

Fairways were firm and pretty tight, but overall lies were OK. Many fairways exhibited large aeration holes in some areas. Rough was cut short and very playable except for the extreme course margins. Tees were level and firm - only #8, recently resodded and maybe not ready for prime time, gave unsure footing. Sand was mostly very thin/firm, making recoveries chancy – most had plenty of old footprints and a lack of players raking their mess. As a result of the elevation changes, wind, pin positions, etc., I played all the par-3 holes using the same club.

The course is doing small things to make the course more playable. They have built a low berm to the right of #4 fairway in the driving area to keep some balls in play – in the past, tee shots hit to the right tended to funnel quickly into the hazard. POP is being addressed by having clocks located on tees as you progress around the course, so you can compare your playing time versus the recommended pace for your tee time. [We were right on the recommended pace.]

Highly recommended.

Played Arrowood for the first time yesterday with David in our GK cup 12 match. Got paired up with two singles at got out on the tee right after 200pm. Course is in good to great condition.

Tee boxes were mostly level and easy to play from. A few of the par 3 boxes were beat up but still able to find a patch of grass. Fairways were frim and dry and gave plenty of roll. Not lush looking but never had a problem hitting from them. The rough was not really a factor. Greens were nice, lots of unrepaired ball marks, but none really affecting roll. Sand was hit or miss. Some greenside bunkers had nice white sand and others had hard dirt.

I really enjoyed the layout of the course. It is a fun course with lots of different types of shots. It I lived closer I would definitely play the course more often.
