Played here today (4/12) as part of the SCGA One-Day Series. Seeing as there was a great review by Larry not long ago, and a very recent update by Matt, I will do a very abbreviated version of my usual verbose reviews. These One-Day outings have been a mixed bag so far (I have competed in 4 so far); today was very well run and the pace was actually set by my group at roughly 4.25 hours which helped tremendously with enjoyment. This was my first time playing Goose Creek and it was worth the drive from San Diego. The layout was fun, the hole variations were interesting, and the conditions were well above-average. On to the review:

Tee-boxes: Good condition. No major issues; level ground on most holes.

Fairways: Excellent condition. Green, cut tight, few divots, ample roll (especially later in the morning).

Rough: Penal. Thick in many places and there's an abundant amount throughout the course.

Sand: Good condition. Got better as the day progressed as it was very wet in the morning. Good amount and quality of sand in every bunker I was in and saw.

Greens: Excellent shape. Perhaps the only change from previous reviews is that the greens are 95% healed and rolled incredibly well and fast. They are holding shots better, but the slope and undulation are what set these greens apart.

ETC: Carts had no GPS and it could have been useful. A few water stations throughout the course with good cold water. Clubhouse had good food and all workers (SCGA ones included) were friendly and helpful. Highly recommend a visit if a deal can be found.

First time at Goose today. I knew going in that the greens were still going to be bumpy but I did not expect them to be so firm and fast. It was a miracle if you got you ball to check today. Not a whole bunch to add to the previous review except the Tee's were not as hard as Larry encountered 4 days ago.

Course is very fun and the greens are demanding. My irons were off today and will all of the false edges I did not hit very many GIR's luckily my chipping was on point and I scrambled for a good score.

If you have never played goose I highly recommend it. you will not be disappointed. (unless you want to see a goose, we did not)

Played the Goose on 4/4 with two other friends getting the first twilight rate tee time, $33 to walk. Looked up the last time I was here and noticed it had been over 7 years since I was here last. Couldn’t figure out why it had been so long but didn't notice many changes to the course except the trees are much larger now! We knew they had just aerated the greens about a week ago but with small holes. Regardless, out we went as a threesome on a warm and windy afternoon. It's in really nice condition. Fairways were in great shape. There are some tight lies out there but that’s nothing new here. There are always tight lies at the Goose. Tee boxes were fine but very hard. Broke many tees. The rough was great. Wasn’t in any bunkers but they looked great as well. As for the greens, we were told the greens were about 80% recovering from aeration. Well, maybe not 80%. I would say about 60%. I would give it another couple of weeks and they should be ok. Pace of play was great. We walked the course in 3 ½ hours. Was a bit bothered when we made the turn, as a new two some coming out of nowhere showed up on #10 to be ahead of us. Where did they come from? What was disappointing was it was clearly the first time playing for one of them. We waited on them for the first 4 holes on the back but they finally got it going. A very nice afternoon at a very nice golf course. I can see why they have received all those awards.

Best Public Golf in Southern California. Has been my home course for about 5 years and is consitently in great shape. Played yesterday 3/30 in four hours. They have micro punched the greens and they were top dressed. They were rolling them exactly one hole behind our group, so we did have a few bouncy putts. All in all another great day at the Goose

Played the Goose Saturday morning the 24th with a 9:15 tee time with a friend and one his friends and were joined by a nice single. POP was right around 4 hours playing at a leisurely pace with nobody in front slowing us down and nobody pushing from the back. The customer service was on point with a very friendly check in, down to the marshals, and the beverage girl who we saw multiple times.

I was a little concerned that the course would be a little soggy with all the rain we saw for the previous week in Ventura County, but the course either drains well or they didn't get a ton of rain as things weren't soggy in any areas and no puddles in the traps.

The fairways were in great shape, the ball rolled out nicely on drives and had great lies all day long, but there were some divots in some of the main landing areas. Played the whites since my buddy and his friend aren't long off the tees and they were in great shape. A few divots on the par 3's but that is to be expected. Grass was a great length and always had a flat spot to hit from they do a great job of moving the tees around to keep everything tip top. Sand traps ranged from being compact to super fluffy it depended on the trap and the lie, but I would say they were all in good to great shape. Rough was mostly about 2-3 inches in length, but the ball seemed to set up nicely so it's not like you had a terrible lie and you could get the club on it. The greens were outstanding. A well struck putt held their lines and the greens had few ball marks. It was a little confusing since I usually play in the morning and the greens seem to speed up throughout the day as they dry out, but for some reason the opposite happened hear and the greens slowed down as it got closer towards noon.

I great time was had and I can't wait to return, highly recommended.

Played 3/14 and the course is in excellent shape. It's a shame they have to do maintenance now. The ball sits up nice in the fairway, the rough is about 3" but you can play out of it easily. The greens were a little on the slow side from what they usually are so it took awhile to get use to but they rolled consistently from one to the other. The nice part were the bunkers, not sure when it happened but all the bunkers seemed to have fresh new white sand, did not see any dirt or water. Got up and down twice just like you're suppose to. Not sure if I will get before the end of the month, if not will wait until mid to end of April due to maintenance. Get out there now. It was nice that it only took 3 1/2 hours to get the round in.

Played 3/4/18 with a 634 tee time and POP of 3.5 hours. Could've easily played faster as there was no one for a few holes in front or back but we enjoyed taking our time. The course is usually immaculate and today was no different.

Tees: Near perfect. Even, level, very little divot damage outside of par 3's.
Fairways: Really good but the one downside I could find yesterday. They had a higher than usual divot damage but were lush and giving average roll-out. Divot mix on the carts were unsurprisingly full.
Rough: Typical 2 to 2.5 inches requiring a club adjustment. Ball would sit up though. Great coverage.
Bunkers: Awesome. They do a great job with the bunkers here. Pearl white with depth. Goose is lucky to be in a little valley by a river unlike other IE courses that get a lot of wind exposure.
Greens: The highlight. They were rolling as pure as the driven snow. Firm but well struck shots would hold. The lines were perfect. If you miss hit your putt at all, there goes that par save from 5 ft you were hoping for. You hit a confident putt and it would be dead center.

What else is there to say about Goose that hasn't. Top facility which rarely disappoints. I have a high level of trust that when I show up, I will get my money's worth. Full recommend.

It's been a while since I've played Goose Creek. The course is in great shape from tee to green and a pleasure to play. It's so lush and green everywhere for the most part so no complaints. I live in Orange County so it's a bit far but worth the drive.

Every time I come to this place, I'm quickly reminded how much I absolutely love this place. The customer service is just impeccable! I checked their website about 7:30 and there were no openings until after 11, which was expected considering the walking rate m-th is $44, an absolute deal all things considered. I called the pro shop and spoke with Scott who told me to come on out, the odds of spot opening up are usually pretty good. I did just that, purchased range balls to hit(was given a large for the medium price) while I waited to be called, which only was about 20 minutes. The staff at GC always makes everyone feel welcome and appreciated.
On to the course, the blue tees had very good coverage and I dont remember having an unlevel lie the entire round. Fairways were mostly lush with a few browning spots scattered throughout the course. Lucky for me I managed to stay out of the sand the entire round, though I noticed they were filling some bunkers with nice new sand! Greens were smooth, kinda fast(prob somewhere between a 10.5 and 11.5 on the stimp), and the entire group conferred that they were rolling true with no putts bouncing off line, that I can remember anyway. This course is one of those that is so well manicured, I dont feel 'rough' is an accurate description. The 'second/third cut 'is a more deserving description.
Great course, Great staff, love this place and cant wait to come back!
