A little late but played in the GK Plays here at Los Serranos.

Not much to add but course is in fine shape. Bunkers are a little hard packed but playable. It's plenty long from the blues... it's near crazy from Jack's Blacks. Fun course with loads of character. Just wish I knew where to aim on certain shots but aside from that the course is what you get without a lot of surprises.

Greens rolled true with medium/slow pace. They received shots well. Fairways had great coverage. No thin lies here. Their turf abatement is all woodchips. Just have to ensure if you're hitting out of there that it's not sitting a bed of woodchips... the bare the better for a well struck shot. Rough was thick. Tee boxes were flat. Pace of play was decent speed. Just wished I played better.

Great venue afterwards. Great venue during the event. Play here again? Of course... this is a great little course with great value.

I appreciate their patience as I hit what seemed like every tree (arborist hate me!) and even a retaining screen in the first nine! :) Good to put faces to the screen names and talking with the other GKers after playing was awesome. Thanks to Johnny, Los Serranos and everyone else that was involved in making the event happen. I used to play the LS courses quite often about 20 years ago. Nice to see the course again. Had the same basic set up with a lot fewer trees from what I remember. Hard to add anything to the other reviews. If I lived closer to the facility, both courses would definitely be on a regular rotation of play.

Played 6-30-16 in the GK plays with Khill57, Itslikeimsayin, and Kassper7 for a fun round of golf. Tee boxes were in good shape, mostly level and lush. Fairways were lush with good lies. Rough off of fairways was a little thin and spotty but around the greens in good shape. Bunkers were in good shape, a little crusty but not to bad. Greens were rolling medium and a little bumpy. Great day with a great group.

Played my first GK event and thoroughly enjoyed it! As for Los Serranos South course, I can't add anything to what's already been said. I played from the blues when I should have been at the whites. I was over swinging all day. Played with Itslikeimsayin, kassper7 and rgm2525. Very enjoyable guys to play with. The best part of my day was the 19th hole. Had fun putting faces to the GK blog names and chatting it up with some of the fellas. AND...I won a putter in the raffle! Thanks Johnny, really enjoyed myself and I look forward to joining GK again soon.

Course conditions were decent, highlighted by the greens. I was surprised how soft the greens were, considering the lack of recent precipitation. Most greens held very well and full shots made large ball marks. However, my best approach shot of the day was at 14, where the wind-swept green apparently is all dried out and doesn't hold at all, so my sand wedge approach that landed a foot behind the hole stopped around 60 feet from the cup. Guess local knowledge is needed there when it plays directly downwind in the afternoon. Also, the 15th and 18th greens have some sort of clover-like blossoms growing in parts of them, which fortunately didn't seem to affect putts much. Fairway conditions ranged from excellent to decent. Rough was a step down from the fairways. Tee boxes were mostly good. The last few times I'd played here the bunker sand was remarkably good, but yesterday they seemed a little firmer than I recall. Overall, the course looks a tad bit scruffy but plays quite nicely.

A golf complex of this caliber needs more drinking water available out on the courses. It seems they replaced the ancient pipe drinking fountain on 15 tee with a new one, but that still pales in comparison to courses that have jugs of ice water every few holes.

All in all, I always love this course layout and to be able to join GK friends for a fun outing here was great.

I was another of the participants to the GK outing, so up front, want to thank Johnny for putting it together, my fellow group members Dave, Kevin and Tom for their good company, and the course management and employees for their efforts. The write-ups to this point have covered the conditions pretty thoroughly so I'll try to add some different angles as someone who had never been to the course before. While a long course, I'd say it is reasonably forgiving in its open, rolling character. The few, narrower fairways and tee shots probably seemed tighter more by comparison than being seriously tight (mostly). More often than not, fairways were generous for tee shots and often there was a very good chance to recover when shots got off line. Net length of the course is offset by a lot of yardage being found in the six par-fives, which is much more do-able than a course of the same length with fewer fives but more, and longer par-fours. I played the white tees at a little over 6,700 yds. — a number I would typically consider at the high end of my comfort level — but it played out as a fair and reasonable challenge level. There is an interesting mix of some fairly flat and straight forward holes as well as some serious and dramatic elevation changes, so the course keeps your interest topographically with some nice views thrown in. To second others' comments, the actual conditions were pretty nice and fairly consistent overall: greens medium quick, good chipping areas, bunkers good but sometimes crusty, nice fairways, and generally pretty level teeing grounds. The warm day (mitigated by the breeze) elicited some comments on the drinking water supply. Once I figured out what they look like, I thought there were a reasonable number of fountains distributed over the course. Having jugs out there might have provided colder water, but jugs have to be tended and refilled, and I've been on course where they didn't keep up. Cold would be nice, but if i have to choose long-term, I'd go with the consistency of the fountains. Probably the one critique that stands out for me and I would offer to management is that the driving range matts were on the firm and worn side — uneven and a little hard on the hands. I'd say new ones would be a significant improvement and seems due. That said, an excellent outing a really pleasant day. Thanks again to all!

Played in the GK Plays at LSCCS on a hot sunny day 6/30/16. Very hot and muggy at warmup and starting the round, but then the breeze freshened and the weather was much more bearable, although winds continued to increase as the round went on, becoming much more of a factor in shot-making. Always great to get together with GKers, and got to meet some new guys I hadn’t met before – thanks to Kevin, Tom, and Kevin for an enjoyable round. [At least 3 ‘Kevin’s at this event out of 20 players – what’s up with that?!!] GKer kevbig wanted to play Jack’s Blacks (!), so like the fool I am I went back there with him – he’s younger and easily has the distance to play back there, while I was very inconsistent and struggled much of the day, but overall I think we had a good time. Only on #13 was the distance differential really a factor, as that back tee requires you to hit thru a chute of tall trees that’s about as wide as a hallway(!!), and really sets up poorly for those of us who can’t easily hit a power fade (i.e., both of us!!) We both want to forget the results on that hole! Course conditions were pretty good, with greens being the best part – fairly lush, rolling well at medium speed. We found some firmer than others, and were occasionally surprised by a quick check-up or very firm bounce-through. Fairway lies were somewhat thin but OK. That darn kikuyu rough is a PITA whether you are just off the fairway or around the greens – can be deep, grabs your clubhead, and definitely a factor on any shot. Tees were level and OK – no divots to worry about on the Blacks (LOL). A few tees were somewhat mushy from irrigation, making for unsure footing, while others don’t get much water at all and are very hard and thin. Sand was generally of fine depth and playability, although most had crusty surfaces – possibly dried out after being wetted by sprinklers. Good times in the clubhouse afterward, although the kitchen menu was limited this late in the day (~5:30). Plenty of prizes for all and good to see everyone. Looking forward to future Plays get-togethers.

I haven't played Los Serranos (South) in over a decade. I remember the course as being a good layout but I don't remember it being this nice, the course is in great shape. Generally I only play public courses and many get beat up from so much play but this course is in great shape and a joy to play. Granted it was a bit on the warm side, I think it was in the mid 90's but there was a strong breeze so the heat wasn't so bad, especially in the shade. I would definitely recommend bringing lots of water... there were no cold water coolers on the course. I like to freeze my water bottles the night before to ensure I've got cold water for the round. I will definitely be play this course again, this course goes on my recommend list.

It was another fun GK Plays yesterday. Got to see some familiar faces and meet a few new GK'ers who were attending for the first time. Special thanks to mpisarski01, HmtGolfGuy and robule for the great company during the round. And of course, thanks to sponsors like LinkSoul, Cleveland/Srixon and Welborn Media for some great prize donations. Everyone walked away with something good!

As others have said, the course was in good overall shape. I must admit I was a bit spoiled by lush conditions in the Central Valley over the weekend, but by current SoCal standards things were above average at Los Serranos. White tee boxes were a little uneven in places, but fine enough. Fairways were probably the best part, providing ample roll-out and good lies to hit from. Rough more of a mixed bag along fairways, but nicely kept around the greens. Bunkers on the firm side, but I kind of like them that way. Greens very receptive and rolling pretty well. I didn't think the greens on the course were as fast as the practice green, but they were still on the quick side. A little bumpy in places, but mostly rolled true. Matt and I played the first two holes of the North course because we needed playoff holes for our match. I thought the greens on that side were even nicer and quicker than South (at least the first two holes were).

I always enjoy Los Serranos and it's definitely tougher with the wind blowing as hard as it was. Almost every hole either plays right into the wind or straight downwind, so you go back and forth with constant adjustments. I agree with others that there needs to be some water jugs out on the course, especially during the heat of summer. There are some drinking faucets, but cold fresh water from a jug would be much more satisfying. When we hopped over to play North at the end, there was a water jug right by the 3rd tee of that course, so it's odd there were none on the South Course.
