Played LWV on 6/6/25 and 6/13/25 – 9 holes each time, as I’m not yet strong enough to finish 18 holes without staggering. Three nines here offer a variety of lengths, while conditions are similar across all. Generally good conditions – level tees, fairways in good condition with very few thin/bare spots, rough that is generally fairly short and playable. Greens are small, and don’t have much tiering, but can be slopy with unexpected breaks around the hole. The weather has been mild this winter and temps haven’t gotten hot yet, so greens have been fairly moist and accepting of shots. Surprise – a lot of members don’t fix ball marks! Most traps are fairly open and flat with okay-to-good coarse sand, but a few are pretty deep. More slope across many holes than you might expect from looking from a distance. The courses are always busy with lots of members, but play on all nines generally comes in at around 2 hours.

Played 6/13/25 8 am Shotgun. Course was in really great shape. Fairways had very good coverage with ball sitting up. A few GIR mixed around, but seldom caused any issues. They were playing on the firm & fast side with plenty of cushion. Greens were fantastic, but on the slow side. Held shots very well. Noticed a few wobbles and were a tad on the slow side, but they played great. Was not in any traps but they looked firm. T box's mostly great with a few uneven stances. Overall a easy recommend.

Course is generally in good shape BUT, piece of advice, never come here on a Friday afternoon. Place was packed, 5 1/2 hour round. First time I have ever seen 5 groups backed up on one hole. Called the pro shop and the did send someone out. He was very nice but simply said, it is really crowded out here. Lots of drunks out this afternoon. Must have been sending people out every 5 minutes or so. Hope someone from the course reads this. Hard to recommend. If you do go, greens were decent but slow. Fairways had good coverage. Sand traps really uneven and tee boxes pretty beat up.

Played here again today with a 7:03 tee time. I'd seen that the Southern California Golf Community Facebook group had a few groups teeing off earlier, so when I overheard the starter saying their 6:36 group was only going to be three, I volunteered to start early and got to meet a few great guys from the group. The group right in front of us was well behind the group in front of them (the entire par-5 10th was open in front of them), but POP wasn't too bad at just a smidge over four and a half hours.

Conditions are very similar to when I played here two weeks ago, except the par-3 5th green is much improved and I didn't encounter any bare spots in the middle of fairways today. Greens were smooth, accepting of full shots, and medium-fast. They seemed to get faster as they dried out toward the end of our round. Overall, they are very nice. Fairways have great coverage and provided good lies all day. Rough is in a little lesser condition but still quite good and not too penal. I was only in one bunker, which seemed to have an interesting maintenance approach where the edges of the bunker were pretty firm but they had added ample sand in the lowest areas where balls come to rest. White tee boxes were mostly good but a few were severely slanted. Again, the tee markers were very close together (less than 10 feet apart, despite plenty of room to have them wider) and at least one hole (15) had them placed in a weird spot that had us aligned with a big bush blocking the left side of the fairway.

I played great and had a great time. Definitely recommended.

I finally got around to playing the newly renovated San Juan Oaks. In short not much has changed. But that’s a good thing because I really liked this course before it shut down for 2 years. Condition wise the course was in great shape tee to green. Greens were firm and fast. I’ve said it before, the greens at SJO have the perfect blend of enough undulations to challenge you but nothing ridiculous.

Fairways were lush with good coverage throughout. Some of the areas leading up the greens were tight lies but still had good coverage. Tee boxes and sand traps were all good to go.

As far as the layout is concerned nothing really changed. they swapped the 9’s so you now tee off on what used to be #10 and then head up into the hillside. They used to do that on occasion before so no real change. What has changed is the split fairway on #4 (old #13). It is now a single fairway with just the one on the left. The fairway on the right is completely gone with 3’ weeds now in its place.

Other than that I did not see any changes to the course. There might be a new fairway bunker on #10 (old #1) but it’s been so long since I’ve played here, I can’t fully remember if it was there before or not. In fact the new housing development doesn’t really come into play. There are houses along the right side of the long 1 mile entrance road as you come in but nothing alongside the course. At least not as of yet. In fact you can’t see any of the houses from any part of the course. . I have no idea why they closed this place down for 2 years. The clubhouse / restaurant has been completely remodeled and now features full on dinners (or at least that’s the plan).

The price has gone up to $125 mid week and $175 weekend. That includes a cart and warmup range balls. SJO is a fun and challenging layout with great conditions. POP was a little under 4 hours.

Played 6-10-25 walking as a twosome and finishing in under three hours. Tee boxes were in good condition, level with good coverage and minimal divot damage on par threes. For the most part the fairways were in good shape, there were some areas that were under repair and staked off, and some spots that were a little on the thin side but I never had a real bad lie, and the surface was nice to hit from. Rough along fairways and around greens was about 2 inches and lush. Outside the first cut is some thick native grass in the 6 inches to longer area. Was not in any bunkers, but the looked to be in good shape with nice white sand. Greens were playing soft and rolling about medium pace with an occasional bump. Overall course is in good condition that usually gets better as the summer progresses.

Played today in a nice POP of 3 H. They are still doing some aerating as they were doing the tee boxes today. So with all the work they have done, the course is nice and clean and lush. But it is an over watered course on every hole. So drives really go no where and most balls come up muddy. The traps are playable thank goodness. But the greens are looking nice but they are slower than mollases. And with very little wind or sun the course is not drying out very well. So I guess we just live with it and ride it out. At least the staff is great and the food prices are good Wed through Friday. And the new carts are really really nice.

Our Men's club was kicked out of Native Oaks for the day so Dos Oso's hosted the Sat group. This is the second time playing here and they are doing some fine work improving the conditions. Easy check-in and cart loading with friendly staff. The driving range was removed and they have 2 hitting nets and a large putting green. We went out on time at 8AM and got around in just over 4 hours with minimal waiting. Conditions are still improving here overall, and it's just nice to see an owner investing in the course. Tee boxes were fine, but needed to be moved around. Lots of divots on the par 3's and short par 4s. Fairways had good coverage and were mostly green. There are a handful of GUR areas with new sod but were playable. Rough was a mixed bag, very nice around the greens, but also very thick! Around the fairways, it was mostly ok, but it depended on the type of grass. Then there are the greens...... Very nice shape right now, however, they were slow!!!!! They were a touch on the soft side but very healthy.

Overall, the course is in good shape, and I would recommend playing. The rack rate of $80 is good for the course, but it's not going to knock your socks off.

Made it back out to Navy this past weekend with the Rancho Park men's club for a tournament and the course did not disappoint. It's a very fun and challenging layout from start to finish with the odd wrinkle of not getting to play a par 3 until the 9th hole.

Most of the water features on the course right now are less intimidating as many of the course's lakes are either completely or partially drained, so you may still have a shot out of the hazard that you didn't before when they're full. Footing is terrible though and you will sink so still try to avoid at all costs!

Course conditions are solid across the board with no major complaints about anything in particular. There were a few areas marked off as GUR but we were warned about that in advance of the tournament. I found the greens to be really fun and engaging. They ran medium-fast and held shots well. The fairways had mostly good coverage with thin spots here and there, while the rough was thick in spots but mostly very playable.

Bunkers were in good shape but of course another layer of sand is never something to scoff at, while the tee boxes (my flight played the whites) were level and had mostly good coverage with the exception of just a few.

No cart service throughout the day but there is a fine snack shop at the 12th hole tee box that has everything you need. Carts are in good shape and do have a rudimentary GPS system on them, but I would still bring a GPS app for layups and a range finder for exact distances to the pins.

Overall another solid experience at a very cool course.

Morning round on Oaks/Creek in 4.5 hours. Staff is always friendly and efficient. The grounds crew was out mowing portions of the course but the grass is long. The tee boxes are looking a little beat up and thin with broken tees abundant. The rough is Thick and Tall again! Shots from the rough were very difficult if you could find your egg. The mowers were not cutting much if any off the length? The fairways had great coverage but there were many non repaired/unfilled divots on many holes. The traps were all well groomed but a few needed to be raked. The greens still have not healed from the plugging. The green speed was very slow and roll was extremely bumpy. Not sure what they haven't done with them but they're still not back to normal? The place is always busy and parking is not fun at times.

Course in nice condition considering it has been in the 90's or 100's every day recently. Tees lush and very well maintained. Fairways now firm and play fast with a few brown patches here and there. Rough hit and miss, could be thick or thin. You actually want it to be thick to stop balls that otherwise will end up in the cactus w/o it. Sand is excellently maintained. Greens have mostly recovered from May punching and are firm and putt medium speed with few ball marks. They will be smooth again in about another week. Carts have nice GPS. Customer service excellent from almost everyone on the staff. Excellent range and good restaurant on site. Highly recommended.

Played 6/4/25 @ 1240pm. It was getting a little warm when we started, by the end it was HOT! They completely leveled all the tee boxes and revised the greens. Tee boxes- it really makes a huge difference playing from a level area. They are all new, so there were no problems there. Fairways were nice with a few brown spots here and there. The two sand traps that I had were great. Rough was just a little longer than the fairway- it's a resort course so it won't beat you up. The greens were something else altogether... They are still brand new and still settling in. They were hard as a rock and even well struck shots were bouncing off the back. The starter said play everything 10 feet short and have it bounce up because they're not going to stop. Very hard to figure out the greens until they settle in. I've seen the conditions better, but all in all it's still a wonderful course. One of my favs here.
