Always did like coming here.
Lots of watering taking place, but fairways still running fast. Greens holding well but a bit slow. Good layout and a lot of fun. Love the elevation changes.Extremely quiet Tuesday afternoon. We saw one other golf cart. Good value when weather is fine.

2down - Bay Area
Probably one of the most underated courses in the Bay Area. This is a very challenging course with small greens. It has great views and play is usually fast. My one criticism is having an irons only driving range.

It was okay at best. Par 3's are some of the worst layouts I've seen at a course in a while. 1 Par 5 on the entire course. The old holes have very small greens. I actually liked the new holes much better. Still, I probably will not play this one again. Msny better golf courses in this area.

It was my first time there and found it very enjoyable, it's a tough/challanging course. Some greens are small but all of them were in great condition and fast. We played a 4 hr round (Teed off, Sat, 2 pm) without rushing, which is a pleasure all by itself.

Played today, my birthday and had a great time. the course is in good shape. The greens are fast for Nor Cal. The back side is a little to up and down for me but over all I like the course.

I had the best round of golf of my young golf career here, best both in terms of my score and in terms of my enjoyment of the course. The course has rolling hills, lots of trees, bunkers in many challenging places, and greens that were fast and tilted in many directions. I would absolutely play here again.

Played the course the day after Thanksgiving. Course was in Fair to good condition. This is somewhat of a jeckle and Hyde golf course. Since about 1/2 of the holes have been redone, part of the course is treeless with extreme elevation changes. The first eight holes are in tight and tree lined. The old course Tee boxes need a lot of work especially at the Par 3, #8. It was nearly bare and thin with more dirt than grass. The old Black tee box was overgrown and had a tree that had grown in front of it and was blocking the tee area.
Overall, a pretty interesting golf course, but needs some work on the older part of the course. Greens were slow up hill, but fast on downhill putts and chips. Greens are small so make sure your approach shots are accurate.

Play this course on 10/28/07. The course was is very good condition. This was the 1st time I played this course. It's like playing 2 different courses. Front 9 is a tree lined course with narrow fairways and the back 9 is more wide open. Lots of elevations changes, this was a very fun course to play, but watch out for rattlesnakes!!!!! On a hot day I wouldn't go looking for a ball that you hit into a hazard. I would definitely play here again.

Always a joy to play Mare Island despite a slow moving tourney that expanded my round to 5hrs and 20 min. (ugh!) This gorgeous little baby can definitely test your game, using each club in your bag. My favorite was #14. Playing from the blue tees the view of the surroundings is breathtaking. The wind typically comes in from behind you and your tee shot shot requires distance and accuracy. Its quite a rush hitting a great shot and watch it shoot across the sky like a shooting star and see it land perfectly on the fairway between two sand traps.

This is a must play if your visiting the area and its easy on your pocket book.

The course offers a different look between the first nine (mostly the old course) and the back nine. The diversity makes it a fun track, and one of the best values in the bay area if you hit the "twighlight" special.

This course is a gem and in great shape right now. The greens are fast and firm, nicest I've seen around here since I played Eagle Vines last
month. No crowds and nice staff, only drawback is the irons only range.
Par 3's are tough and play long. Online deals for weekdays are the way to go.

The historical value of this course makes this course a must play. Mare Island within a naval base which is for the most part deserted. You will also find empty military barracks and fallout shelters which were used during WWII throughout the course. Its an eerie sight to see buildings which were once used by our soldiers sixty or seventy years ago now empty never to be used again.

Anyways, about the golf. If you're looking for an opportunity to post a good score to lower your index, stay away from this course. This course is one tough hombre and is not reflected by its slope. The short par 4's are tough because of its narrow fairways and with tall eucyleptus trees that surround the area and protect greens and fairways from both good and and not so good tee shots and approach shots alike. The is a hilly course and unless your in good shape, I suggest you take a cart.

The greens are deceptive, they can be fast and can break hard. The tee boxes are top notch considering your great great grandfather may have teed it up there. The fairways however need love from it players and its employees, it would be nice if they provided sand for you to take with you to repair divots with. The vista spots are nothing less than woderful. Sometimes you are looking over a quiet, vacant beach. Others will show the city of Vallejo and you might catch a glimpse of the Golden Gate bridge in the distance. A pleasant view may not help you on #11 when you try to avoid fairway sand traps. The coastal breeze on #14 can create some unwanted drama but you may do a jig if your tee shot finds the fairway.

I cannot say enough positive things about this course and is worth the $60 green fees considering the cost of golf in the bay area. To me, its a steal when Hiddenbrooke is $90

Not worth the crazy green fees they charge on the weekends. But if you can catch a good deal during the week its a definate coourse to play. Small greens, and pretty tuff course. But one of the best looking courses around with a look over the bay right there.

The course was in good shape considering the wheather the past few weeks. The fairways rolled very well and greens released pretty good. If there was a down side to the round it would be the pace of play. We tee'd off at 12:38, we walked off 18 at 5:53p.m.

Course is in gret shape overall. Greens are small but they roll true. The fairways are in good shape. Lots of up and downs slopes, and the battery run carts are in need of some upgrades. It is worth the views and drive to give this course a try.

tough lil short track 9 holes which had been created over a hundred years ago combined with 9 designed by an award winner, wonderful views of the city on one side and the bay on the other from the elevated holes on the back nine, a bargain to play...give it a go (rj)

Not crowded with reduced rate on weekend ($32 with 1/2 cart fee and range balls) after 2pm. Small greens demand good shotmaking on front nine - back nine more open and easier to score upon. Great views of San Pablo Bay / old shipyard / Vallejo from elevated tees on back side. Always fun to play.
