Teed off this morning on Los Lagos as a fivesome (7:50) but I was a guest all 4 of the guys are part of the Costa Mesa Senior Men’s Club so we had 3 riders and 2 walkers and everything seem to go smooth, we did have to wait on some holes but we played in 4:30 so it wasn’t too bad. Course is looking good now, greens are rolling quite fast and they really hold shots. I did have to fix way too many ball marks which I don’t understand, but there’s a lot of young guys there so I’m not really sure. I was only in one bunker on hole 2 near the green and it was very playable. All tees seem to be level and everything else was ok and nothing out of the ordinary. I always enjoy playing here especially when you have nice people to play with..

Played Encino for the first time in many months on Thurs 8/7. First group out at 5:55a, and was paired with 3 other singles who were super nice. Course conditions are really nice for Encino right now. The highlight is the greens, which are exceptionally smooth, very few ball marks and you can make a lot of putts. They look a little slow and spongy, but they were actually faster than they look so it took me a couple holes to adjust. The fairways are pretty good, and may get a little worse as the heat really comes on, but totally playable and if you're not a stickler for rules, you can always find a nice patch of fairway if you end up in a rough spot. Bunkers were a little hit and miss -- one looked completely unraked for weeks and more like the beach -- but fine for a muni. The rough is almost non-existent and not very penal, at least in spots where I ended up. I recommend getting out there now if you can before it gets too hot and baked out.

First time here. First impressions: Nice modern pro shop, near by snack bar/lounge area with professional staff feel. Large practice putting green near starter and driving range (mats). This was a Thursday morning, 10 am no pressure to tee off on time all in cost for small bucket and green fees $ 71.00. Another pleasant surprise was the excellent cart path smoothness! Most courses neglect repairs in this area. Traps here are actually a true test of your ability, meaning soft not cart path like concrete with a topping of sand. I actually enjoyed watching my shots preform from them! Wish this place was closer to Orange County, without the August heat. By 2pm it was 100 deg's! Due to heat concerns I probably won't return until Fall. Don't let that stop you though, you won't be dissapointed!

Black Horse was once a favorite track that eventually disappeared from my playlist. Well after playing here on Tuesday, I’m happy to say it’s back. Yes the course is unrecognizable if you haven’t been here in a few years. Gone are the hundreds of Cypress trees that lined the fairways (and blocked views of the ocean). In their place are now dozens of homes. It is what it is. $3m dollar homes bring in more money than $59 Golf Now specials! But on the positive side is both courses remain fully intact with their original routing. Yes some wasteland areas have been added mainly from the tee box to the “new” beginning of the fairway a la Spanish Bay and Del Monte. However, unlike Spanish Bay it doesn’t take a monster drive to just reach the fairway. So kudos to Bayonet/Blackhorse for keeping both courses open and intact.

Conditions have also returned to excellent all around. Greens are firm and fast (but very predictable speed in all directions). We played in early afternoon so by the time we got to the back nine the wind was up a bit so that had more do with holding the green than anything. Down hill, down wind and it was impossible. Uphill, up wind and you could stick it 3’ from the pin.

Fairways were nice and lush side to side with hardly a thin spot to be found on the entire course. Sand traps were just short of a perfect 10. In fact, they probably were a 10 but because I was in 7 of them, I had to knock them down somehow!

POP was 4 hours 15 mins. Which wasn’t bad considering it took us 10-15 minutes to tee off because the idiots in front of us drove their cart into the soft sand / wasteland area and got stuck. Carts now have GPS in them which I don’t believe they did before.

As I mentioned before, they removed a ton of trees. This has opened up numerous views of the bay that weren’t there before. There is still construction going on but it’s traditional contractor stuff and not the heavy earth moving equipment that was here before.

I can finally say that a once favorite peninsula course is now worth playing again. Course conditions and layout now match the entry price.

Has to be the best valued under $50 senior weekday course I've played in a long while. Greens were like walking on cushions, in fabulous shape. Tee's, traps all in good condition as well. Course provides plenty of uniqueness from hole to hole. Always fun having a couple lakeside greens to get you puckering some...and finishing with a Par 3 completes things. If a downside here, there's lots of construction enhancements going on, (clubhouse & parking lot), making it a little bit of a hike to check-in. Returning for sure!

After a year off in 2024, our Private Club Events returned to Los Coyotes CC this Monday, 8/4 … what a fantastic event!

What made it even better is I’m getting to see and catch up with GKers I have not seen in years. That means a lot to me.

It was super teeing it up with mcantos, now in Honolulu but in the OC this time of year. Marvin’s playing 18 holes for 18 bucks with his local rate on Oahu … not bad! LOL - welcome back to SoCal.

Other GKers I happened to see, aakers, defisher and jerry64.

I really enjoy organizing outings at Los Coyotes CC not only because it’s a fun, challenging track kept in great shape, but also because it has one of the best event staging areas of the courses hosting our 100+ player private course events. There is so much space to keep everything organized, your players together and give them a big Country Club ambiance. All amenities for players are easily accessible, driving range, practice putting, proshop, bathrooms, snack bar, cart barn, etc.

If you’re considering booking a golf outing at Los Coyotes CC, I’ve worked with Selina Cothran for many years and she’s terrific. Her and her events staff did another super job with our golf event.

It is always a pleasure playing with rgm2525 and sparky14 who worked at the check-in Vivid Golf tent while I ran the Putting Skill Challenge and did Media. We had our hands full, and it felt good to get out on the course afterwards.

As far as playing conditions, the greens were medium/fast, held shot and mostly smooth. Fairways were gorgeous bermuda/kikuyu grass making the ball sit up all day. The rough was cut at a player’s manageable 2 to 3 inches, mostly kikuyu turf with sloped stances. Greenside rough is especially not the place to be on this course IMO as I found out due to poor iron play. Bunkers were all in great shape with white, somewhat thick/coarse texture sand. Tee boxes cut tight, level and mostly lush. It’s a very fun tree lined course to hit driver requiring straight, left-to-right and right-to-left shots. This time of year, the bermuda/kikuyu turf provides very little roll out so choose your tee box wisely. We played the Valley/Vista 18 holes combo which I think is the most event friendly combo. The Lake 9 is very fun, but also more narrow/difficult risking slow play. Hole #9 on the Lake nine is probably my favorite of all 27 holes at Los Coyotes CC and regardless not a bad choice.

I highly recommend Los Coyotes CC to play, organize an outing at or consider joining.

A little late on the review, played this past Monday on 8/4. 3:50pm start time. Check in was easy and they let me renew my city card on the spot! Great touch as it's a pain to do online with the e-verify and all. Takes forever to do it online, at least for me it does.

Course is in pretty darn good shape right now. All around. Blue tees are nice and level. Good coverage and no issues at all.

Fairways were never a problem. Great lies all day. Decent roll out and good cushion. Not perfect carpet, but very nice, especially on the back nine.

Rough was thick in most all spots. Grabbed your club, for sure, but had good consistent coverage. Trees and the thick rough will add to the importance of keeping it in the fairway.

Found one bunker and it was just fine. No problems with the bunkers right now.

Greens were average. Most of them didn't seem to really hold a shot very well, they were a little firmer than I'm used to seeing out there. Whereas some others were very soft and receptive. Not a huge deal, just a little bit of a gripe. They putted fairly smooth for being late in the day and were average to slightly quick pace.

POP: we finished 16 holes, so not too bad for this place. The teebox on 6 continues to be the bottleneck with two to three groups always on that teebox.

Great value as always. And an easy recommend.

Played Soboba Tuesday and Wednesday mid mornings well behind early groups with nobody following. Temperatures rose into upper 90s both days but light breeze was welcomed. Senior rate 70 included warmup balls and nice cart with ice and gps.
Several tee boxes and fairways had recently been punched especially areas that had dry yellow color. Just rolled ball out of holes to suitable spot though some lies were very tight. Not much rough here as fairways mainly wide with a few holes 2”-3” if cutting off doglegs or between adjacent holes. Trees, sand, water and side slopes make staying in fairway imperative. Was in several traps all had ample white sand that was well maintained. Smooth greens rolled medium fast speed with subtle breaks besides the obvious with pin locations changed daily. Fortunately only had to repair a few ball marks other than mine on the receptive greens as they were easy to stick and stay below the pins on mostly steep back to front slopes. Soboba conditions were enjoyable for me to play since the course was so wide open noticed a lot of maintenance was ongoing too. Start to finish check in, practice putting, range and unhurried play with water and shade stops was about 4 hours each day. Not rated due to ongoing maintenance.

Played 8/6/25 712am tee time. Haven't been out here in a while since I thought the price went up. Turns out the price isn't the same on Golfnow versus the course website. Golfnow is $92.49, course website $60- really big difference... Now the course is back in my golf groups' rotation. Conditions were great with some overwatered spots here and there (probably due to the heat). Tee boxes were good for the most part with a few crowned areas from the blue tees (today they had a few blues playing from the blacks). Fairways had good coverage with a few thin areas here and there- mostly tight lies with good cushion underneath. Rough only a couple inches longer and easy to get a club on the ball. Sand traps were really nice- I've been playing here for a long time and they're the best I have ever seen them right now. Greens were rolling nice and smooth, but got faster once the temperature started rising. Great customer service in the pro shop and the cart barn. Will definitely be back soon if the conditions stay the same.

Nice to get back to play Rec Park. Always one of my favorite places to play. As the prior reviewer indicated, course is in very good overall condition, particularly the greens. Given the amount of play this course gets, it is impressive how well maintained it is. The only complaint I have is just how expensive it is to play golf here. (Truth is that's case everywhere) Sure do miss the pre-covid days when the courses were somewhat empty and much more affordable.

Had a work event starting this past Saturday down in Anaheim so went with a colleague over to Tustin Ranch for a fun round after having gotten our work done in the morning. We had some time before our 2:10pm tee time so we ate at the Player's Lounge and then warmed up on the range ahead of our start.

We were told that one of the holes (the par 3 3rd) would be closed for maintenance and that we would be starting our round on the 11th hole, then we could replay it to get in 18 holes. Fair enough. But when we did get around to the front nine, both holes 2 AND 3 were closed. Hole 2 is a beautiful par 5 that I would have loved to play and I felt absolutely cheated after having been given completely false information. Both my colleague and the other two players we were paired with were quite livid. And worse, when we finally finished the round, no one was around to direct our complaints to. Very frustrating indeed. One hole was fine, but two? At $190 for 18 holes? Very disappointing.

As for the rest of the course, it's actually grown on me a lot since my last two visits, but I still think it's overpriced for what you get - especially when two holes are cut out! But the rest of the course was in pretty good late summer shape with nice, well-maintained and mostly green fairways (dry areas in spots to be fair), very playable rough, nice bunkers for the most part and excellent tee boxes (we played the whites) and greens.

The greens were in really nice shape, rolling fast and true and holding shots quite well. They have some tricky green complexes for sure and I think I rolled my best putt ever on the 9th hole green where I was on the proper tier but a sloping section forced me to aim well right and up the ridge before finding the fall line and sinking the 50-footer for birdie.

Carts are very nice with GPS and very finely appointed - no complaints there. We also had cart service come out a few times and that was great. POP was not really an issue until we caught the groups in front of us after the two-lost-hole debacle, then it slowed down quite a bit, but we cruised through the first ten holes quite nicely.

So all-in-all it was a disappointing experience in one regard but not something that I anticipate will be a regular occurrence at Tustin Ranch. I would recommend waiting until they've sorted out this irrigation issue though on holes 2 and 3 before spending that kind of money to not get what it's all worth.

Played yesterday AM. Course is in nice shape all around but very wet in many areas due to recent heat wave. I found all tee boxes to be playable. As well as the traps at that time of the morning. Fairways are playable but little roll out due to watering. Especially in front of the greens. If they are not careful they will have more cart track damage like in front of # 11 due to watering (huge). The greens are slow also due to watering so that they do not get burned out like what happened last year. POP was right on 3 H so that was good for a Tues morning. As always great customer service at all levels from Christian, Madison, Rich (carts) and Phil and Oscar (grounds crew).
