Played Balboa GC again, this course is another old reliable course to enjoy a round of golf. Interestingly, best conditions I have ever seen on this course, which is likely due to major rainfall that occurred over the prior two weeks.

The course was in very good condition for a high traffic muni and as green as I have ever seen it. Pace of play was around 4.25 hours. I note the following conditions:

Tee Boxes: good condition, level and green.

Fairways: good condition, green and defined from rough.

Greens: Very good condition, and the fastest I have ever played here. Maybe a 10ish - 10.5ish, it was an excellent surprise that made the course so much better.

Sand: good condition generally and OK in most areas, and in other areas were hard packed.

Rough: good condition, maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches.

Again enjoyed this course! The design is flat but strong if playing from the tips. This course is a another go-to that I always enjoy playing. Food was again good at their restaurant! Think of this course as the reliable cheese burger from your local grill. It is a solid course for the golf fix... Again recommended!

Played ANGC with a mid-morning tee time. The course was in good condition and with a solid green look to it. No dry out or dirt spots observed, conditions are rated a 4.48 out of 5 overall. I note the following:

Tee Boxes: Level and lush, no damage
Fairways: Green and tight, no damage
Greens: Green, firm, and fast, no damage. 11ish in speed.
Sand: Well maintained and soft
Rough and Waste Areas: Well maintained and defined
Driving Range: Off grass and in good condition
POP: 4 hours

As previously reviewed, this course is a desert layout that requires control off the tee and into greens. Greens roll fast but hold good shots. ANGC is an excellent layout that can be enjoyed by any reasonably consistent golfer. I recommend this course, especially if a discounted rate is found.

ANGC is a solid players layout and worth the experience. Driving range is off grass and a great place to practice. Recommended if you have the game for the course and don't mind paying $100+ for a round of golf. I believe at $100 - $120 it is totally worth what you are paying for... Really endorse this course!

Soule Park playing very fine...


Had the pleasure of playing SP once again! Excellent weather and conditions all around today with almost no wind. I note the following:


Tee Boxes: Level and green, no damage. Condition very good.


Fairways: Green, lush, and defined from rough. Grabby with limited rollout. Condition very good.


Greens: Green, medium-fast in speed, on the medium to firm side, and tricky to read at times. Speed about a 11. Condition very good.


Sand: Maintained with heavy consistency. Condition very good.


Rough: Maintained and defined, about 3 – 5 inches. Condition very good.


Waste Areas: Maintained with overgrown nature that offered little to no recovery potential. Condition very good.


Driving Range: Very nice driving range! Same as last review.


Practice Areas: Chipping area present was nice but compact. Conditions was above average. Same as last review.


POP: 4.33 hours – no wait was encountered after the first tee box.


Other: A very nice golf shop, high grade. Service received was excellent!


Restaurant: Zaidi's Restaurant was again outstanding! Again, this is one of the best golf course restaurants you can eat at! The food here is top of the line and a must to enjoy when playing SP! A post round meal here makes for the perfect day! Fish and Chips were very good, but nothing beats the California Burger...


This is a great golf course that requires a solid golf game to score. I loved this track and hope to be able to play it again in the near future. Bring your A-game and putting imagination... Again Fully Endorsed!

Course lush and in excellent prime season condition. Tees and fairways lush and well maintained. Near immaculate. Sand well maintained. Rough not overseeded and is mostly dormant, clumpy Bermuda mowed low. Lies can vary tremendously within a small area. Large Bermuda greens firm and medium quick. Smooth with few ball marks. Restaurant good for a golf course. Customer service excellent both inside/outside the club. Practice facilities and the GPS on the carts are both excellent. Highly recommended.

Early morning four hour weekday round. The staff is always friendly and good at what they do. The carts are hanging in condition wise but aging. They do have basic GPS which is pretty accurate. There is no cell service in the hills where the course is located. The tee boxes were all in nice condition with a couple being slightly sloped and thin. They've finally figured out the right amount of water for the first tee as it had always been messy which was a nice way to start. The many forced carries were damp but did not have much water running through them. The rough is fairly thick but short enough to find your ball and easy to put a good swing on it. Total green grass coverage on all fairways with some dormant Bermuda popping through with the warmer weather. Great lies from start to finish. The traps are very well groomed but lack enough sand and are mostly damp compact with pebbles. Hitting from the traps is mixed depending on the one you find yourself in. The greens were in fantastic condition with total coverage. The green speed was slightly slower than usual this round but held shots extremely well in comparison to every other round here. They had put more water on most of the greens which was evident from the visible ball marks. Usually good approach shots would often times bounce through the green but not anymore. Hopefully it remains the same in the future. The course was in the best condition I've seen it in for many years. The weekday rack rates are a bit steep for the area but understandably with JC Resorts now managing the course. Worth a drive up the hill for a round once in awhile.

Tee boxes: level, wide, good coverage
Fairways: well covered, great to hit from, a little dryer than a few weeks ago so ran out a bit more
Bunkers: GUR was the norm as they are readying the course for the PGA tournament.
Rough: the rough was recently cut in most areas but extremely hard to judge and hard to find balls, the stuff is grabby
POP: cart paths only so 5 hours +
Customer service: it’s a muni soooooo, adequate. One gripe is that the short game area has been closed for awhile and will stay so until AFTER the tournament?!?!? I pay taxes, visitors pay premium prices, we deserve a warm up area!
Recommendation: yes, for the city senior rate.

86 degrees on December 10? Where is everybody? $56.00 small bucket and Green fees ( nice new Yamaha cart included). Small but adequate on matt range. Putting green? didn't bother, was scared I might contact something. Booked on line but really not necessary, hit my warmup balls and checked in with Kieth at pro shop. Played by myself up to 13. I now understand why the place is deserted. Nearly all the Greens look to be healing from a grass disease. To be fair I believe the management is addressing the issue. Looks to me like even the "fixed" ball repairs are not healing. Fairways are tight. as in thin grass/grasses...a real patch work of stuff! Not much rough to speak of as fairways are close to tree line. Sand traps positioned well but thin on sand and firm below. adjusted my normal technique to just playing my 52 and chipping out. Finished the round in 4:20. The facility seems under funded and understaffed. Thanx for the chin up attatude from Tony, manager Mike in the snack bar and Mike the greenskeeper. I'll wait for a better report on course conditions before returning. Out.

Played on 12/10 in 80 degree weather. The course is in really good condition after the November rain and warm sunny days. The fairways we're in really good condition except for all the unfilled divots. As usual the greens were nice, they were pretty firm and fast. Overall a good experience. I should also add that the new carts are equipped with great new GPS monitors.

Have you ever had the perfect combination of lush/fast/smooth/soft greens?

That’s what we got to experience on Monday 12/8 at Sunset Hills CC to go along with beautifully manicured lush course. I booked 3 events at Sunset Hills CC in 2025 and I’m booking three more for 2026. From a golf organizer’s perspective, the only negative about the facilities is its lack of a full driving range instead of its small, short irons only hitting station. But Sunset Hills CC short immaculately kept challenging regulation course, exceptional staff, fun bar/restaurant more than make up for it.

This is a family fun club with ZERO snobby-ness. So welcoming of our group I had a couple Sunset Hills CC members come up to our Vivid Golf Check-In tent to say hi and ask about our events.

It was a great day playing with rgm2525, GDR23 and barkydog1. Make sure you read their detailed reviews and check out the photos posted.

Played today. The warm weather has really helped the course. And you can see and hear the maintenance that has taken place. The tee boxes all mowed and clean no issues. Fairways have dried out (some have a few problem spots) and are starting to provide rollout but they are not lush so lies are not always good. Traps with new sand excellent. Those without not so much. Greens are really firming up. Lots of less divot damage and people are fixing them. All of them had good speed when chipping and putting. Great customer service as always. Played a round yesterday with Johnny, Gary and Ron at a GK event. Very windy conditions, but the golf course was immaculate, with probably the best greens I've ever played--VERY fast, yet super receptive. The staff was very courteous and helpful, the hot dogs at the turn were great, and the company was awesome! A very fun round at a beautiful golf course.
