There is only one thing good about this course. The greens were in nice shape. That is the only thing positive about this course. The course has lost control to gophers!! The tee boxes were terrible because of gophers. The fairways were terrible because, you guessed it, GOPHERS! I will be surprised if I'm not peeing blood tomorrow because of the rough ride in the golf carts form how tore up the course is. The back nine was certainly the worse. POP was 5 1/2 hours. Tee'd off at 8:00 on a Sunday morning for a 7:52 tee time. The group in front of us was very slow and stated on the first tee that they were new to golf. The course did not have a Marshall to keep groups from falling out of position. This is fair warning. Don't waste your money. There are other course in much better shape for the same or less money.

5/3 using group golfer $16 voucher, pleasantly warm easy 345 POP which could have been faster except for 2 wayward shots and an excess of 3 minutes spent looking. Fairways are lush almost to a fault as they were about 1/2 inch in length--compared to the 1 inch rough--and soft with little roll. Played the whites about 6300 but seemed longer. As indicated short rough but beyond that was either bare ground squirrel infested dirt or a combination of weeds and foxtails which were unforgiving.
Tees mostly had good cover but occasionally had an uneven quality with some low spots affecting stance. Bunkers were well groomed well filled with heavy sand which was playable overall.
Greens have an abundance of poa but rolled well with only minor grain or slight bumpiness to consider. Breaks were subtle and there did not appear to be a dominating topographical influence. The greens here are small often about 1/2 the size of newer developments with no real contours or levels.
Easy casual check in provided by friendly staff.

There are not many public courses I have not played in Southern California (Unlike Keith who has played them all !) so was excited to play Cherry Hills for the first time. I had low expectations, and I must reveal even they were not met. Aside from the general conditioning of the course, this course provides very limited interest. The holes are very redundant, only the length of the hole varies.

The greens while not great were by far the best part of the course. Fairways had decent areas with grass, but also numerous bare areas. Many placed where the grass was not mowed and it was like being in the rough while in the center of the fairway. The bunkers I found had lots of sand, but not well maintained. Tee boxes were scruffy as well.

I don't wish to offend anyone, but playing here was somewhat depressing. Everything was so poorly maintained, the houses adjacent to the course on many holes were in terrible condition. It just felt like a course would look just prior to being closed, in an area which was being foreclosed.

The staff was great ! The price on a Golf Moose voucher was a steal ($32 for 2 players with cart) which was the primary reason I decided to play here. Despite the low cost, ease of getting out and around ( 2 hours 15 minutes) it's highly unlikely I will return. Even so, I am glad I made the trip because even the worst of golf courses provides lots of fun !

Played late morning 12/3, started as a single but finished as a foursome (more on that later).

This course continues to show steady improvement. Generally, tees were good to very good with only a few areas that weren't level or had significant divot damage. Fairways still have some bare spots (especially #9) but it's obvious they're working on the issue. Lies were definitely above average, decent to good coverage/thickness. All the extra "crap" past the rough has disappeared, rough near the fairway is 'hit and miss" - some is pretty thick, other areas not so much.

Bunkers were good, more dirt than sand but consistent with enough depth to allow true explosion-type shots. Greens were smooth and rolled fairly fast, not too many ball-marks -
only complaint would be the lips around the holes are a little shaggy and not cut precisely.

Pace of play was, unfortunately, dreadfully slow. First 6 holes took right about an hour, next 12 took 3.5 hours. Caught and joined a twosome on the 7th tee, added a single on #9, then plodded along on the back nine. When I've been out in the morning it's been quick so I'm attributing it to the weekend and some VERY casual golfers.

Paid $25 late morning on a Sunday, including cart - given the current conditions that's outstanding! Definitely worth the money.

Played here Saturday as a single, second out but was waived thru on #2 so pretty much had the place to myself.

The improvement tee-to-green is significant since I last played here in January. Make no mistake, they still have a lot of work to do, but it's obvious they've spent a lot of time on the course and it shows (also saw at least 8 different people working the course). Closing the North Course means more $$ available for additional upgrades so conditions should only get better.

Greens are still very firm and have a lot of long-term ball-mark damage (fix the &$!# ball marks people!). Despite this I only had one putt that didn't roll well because of it. Fairways have improved A LOT, same for the greenside rough. Still don't want to be off the fairway, the weeds will swallow a ball whole with no trace.

Given their rates this course is worth checking out, especially as a way to work on your game. Hopefully it can continue to improve and get back to what it once was.

Played Sunday as a single in roughly 3 1/4 hours, still very wet with lots of casual water (#1 now has a small water "hazard" short/right). This is a "Good News/Bad News" review. Good news is it appears better than the last reviewer reported and it's clear they're trying to improve conditions. Bad news is they've got a LONG way to go. Tees were mostly level but showed a significant amount of wear. I'll give them a pass on that because I was out quite early and they probably haven't moved the markers or mowed the areas due to recent rains (odd observation - #17, a par 3, was by FAR the best condition and had the least damage of any on the course). Fairways were hit and miss, many dirt areas but maybe 30% were in play for most players. Stray off the fairway and it ranges from bare ground to HEAVY growth - many trees alongside have recently been trimmed and the cuttings will swallow balls (you'd need a machete or small chain saw to start your search). Greens were ok, most had some bare or thin areas - they held well struck shots with medium ball-mark damage. Speed was a little inconsistent - in general medium with some both slower and faster. Rolled true, there's a lot more break on most than you think. They're also relatively small so just hitting them is an accomplishment. Bunkers were saturated so I can't mark them down for that - it looked and felt like they were a very heavy mix of dirt and sand. The layout is not terribly exciting but it's a solid track with a decent mix of longer/shorter par 4's and you'll probably use at least 3 dfferent clubs on the four par 3's (not sure why #12 is so long since the typical golfer here would be hitting 3-wood or driver). Service was good and very personable, if the person at the Pro Shop is any indication they really are trying to improve things. As a low-cost alternative (especially when comparing weekend rates) it's worth a look but keep your expectations reasonable.

OK, so what do you want to do....(1)Play an imaginary game at the range with a large bucket of balls or (2)for close to the same $$$'s play a course that you can see results when practicing working the ball in dog legs, hitting it straight, play out of decent sand around the greens (fairway bunkers pretty hardpan), battle the tree lined fairways all the while working on your "Tiger" save shots, approach shots biting the green fairly well with about 75% of them having pretty good putting surfaces, then this place will work for you.
Played yesterday (Saturday) morning (8:45) for $22 bucks that includes cart!!! The setting is pretty much a municipal type course, 3 tees to choose, along with what seemed to be maybe a juniors tee that was setup way, way up front.
Your "practice" session will be to stay in the fairways if you want any chance of hitting off grass, whereas beyond the tree line is a dirt environment with some weeds mixed in. Note; even some areas of the fairways you'll find your ball sitting in a bare spot. After discovering this, my group decided to just move to the nearest grassy area and continue on if desired. Again, our mindset is practice round. Areas around the greens were decent, thick at times, to chip out of.
Because of the price, this is the ideal place for beginners to get the feel of the game, or occasional players (like me), that like a practice round to work out the kinks (instead of a bucket or two), before playing in the money rounds.

The fact that nobody has reviewed this course on GK since 2010 affirms my belief that this is Southern California's saddest course. Not only is it generally disliked, but it is pretty much completely ignored. There are those quirky and dumpy courses we love to hate, and then there's CA Golf & Art, which we forget even exists because it's so boring.

I knew I would work my way back out here eventually as I first played it long before I had my blog and figured I'd need to do a proper review at some point. Well, today was the day. On the positive side, it was super cheap as a $10 GN hot deal at 12:22. I used a $10 off reward, as well, so all I had to pay was the booking fee. There weren't too many people out there when I arrived, so I was teeing off early just before noon by myself. I played through a twosome and another slower single ahead and ultimately caught some other singles and groups ahead on the back nine. Still, the total pace of 2:20 was nice.

Beyond being cheap and uncrowded, there aren't really any other positives to highlight. I usually try to find something redeeming about any course, but things here are just kind of sad and they have always been that way as far as I know. Condition-wise, the tee boxes, fairways and rough were a complete hodge podge. There were some decent lush/green areas, some hardpan dirt areas, and everything in between. The greens were ugly and bumpy. I will say the sand in the traps was actually of reasonable quality, but they were very poorly maintained (neglected might be the better word).

With so many courses closing and struggling, it's kind of a surprise this place has stayed alive. Their rates are always dirt cheap (emphasis on "dirt") and they don't seem to get much play, but it's still there for now. The pro shop, bar and overall facilities feel run-down and everything about this place feels like time forgot it. The layout is very uninteresting and plain, so even if conditions were excellent it wouldn't be anything distinctive. As I said, it's all rather depressing and sad. Other than people nearby getting to play an actual round of golf at the same price as a large bucket at most driving ranges, there isn't much reason to come here.
